northwest indiana: NW Indiana Summer Fun: Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve - 07/02/08 09:54 AM
Conveniently located just off of State Road 49 in Chesterton, Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve is both an amazingly peaceful spot for a picnic or a nature walk and a nature photographers paradise.
Carefully planted with native foliage and wildflowers, it is also sprinkled with genius landscaping, rockscaping and engineered structures that include bridges, waterfalls, ponds and walking paths.
The main structural showpiece is an outdoor ampitheater that offers incorporated leveled seating  and sits above the largest and most breathtaking waterfall in the preserve.

My girls and I were recently invited to picnic here with my family.  At first, I was hesitant to go, as … (3 comments)

northwest indiana: Does Staging Really Make That Much Difference in NW Indiana? - 03/26/08 07:16 PM
In the midwest, new concepts and services are slow to catch on.  We are a 'watch and wait' breed, preferring to watch things crash and burn - or succeed as it may - in other parts of the country while we plod along in the tried and true until something else tried and true comes along.
This is definitely true in the world of staging, as I am still told by resistant agents that it is not necessary stage in NW Indiana.  They still think it will not make any difference and that buyers do not care what a house looks like.  Many … (10 comments)

northwest indiana: The Spec House is Finally Finished!!! - 02/04/08 10:23 AM
Okay, it didn't take FOREVER, but it did take 8 days to complete.  Only 6 days over my original schedule (rolling eyes).
Here are some sample photos.  I think it was worth the wait!
  The office.
  The living room.
 The Master.

northwest indiana: NW Indiana Home Stager Featured in Local Paper - 02/03/08 11:17 AM
Many of you read in my last blog that part of my hectic week was interviewing for a newspaper article for the one of our local papers - The Times.
The article ran Saturday February 2 in the Biz News section.  Here is the link:
http://nwi.com/articles/2008/02/02/business/business/doc1f008b7fda2d2b22862573e20079a79a.txt
I'd like to thank Sue Erler, the writer, for shifting gears and turning my 'quote' into a full scale article and John, the photographer, for tolerating my hatred of my photo being taken and allowing me to act like he wasn't taking photos at all.  It wasn't as awful as I had been dreading (you were right, John!  … (12 comments)

northwest indiana: Purdue Now Offering Home Staging Class - 01/08/08 09:29 AM
It was recently brought to my attention by Steve Dalton, NWI builder and Blogger extraordinaire, that Purdue North Central, Porter county and Main campuses, is now promoting a home staging class.  He sent me a link to this article in one of our local newspapers.
Intrigued by a staging class being offered for a fee of $59, lasting 2 hours, I decided to do some research and see what I could find out.  Here is all of the information I could come up with:
1. This class is listed under the 'Leisure Learning and Personal Discovery' department (in the Art and Music section), so it … (14 comments)

northwest indiana: Do the Math - How Many Associations Can You Handle? - 12/06/07 10:48 AM
This is a subject that has been rolling around in my head for quite some time, but I was never able to solidify a blog until I read Kathy Passarette's recent post Hmmmm....Which Organization should I join?  While her approach was on a more general industry level, I have chosen to lay it all out there (what a surprise) from my own perspective.
Since opening Details Staging and Redesign in 2005, I have been given several opportunities to join organizations, all offering endless benefits to my business.  I'm sure they expect that I will be bringing some benefits to the table as well.  Quite frankly, I … (29 comments)

northwest indiana: Fall Fun in NW Indiana: County Line Apple Orchard - 10/12/07 08:34 AM
If you are looking to spend a few Autumn hours with your family, head over to the County Line Apple Orchard, located on County line Road in Hobart, In.
Along with the obvous U-Pick apples, there are many things to see and do with your kids, including a kid's farm, a corn maze, Observation Bee Hives, and the famous Peter Pumpkin Eater.
County Line Orchard has a very large variety of apples and keeps an updated list of what is ripe on their website (the blushing goldens - my favorite - should be ready any day now).  For those who are not into picking … (2 comments)
