professional stager: Staging May be a New Industry, but None of Us Were Born Yesterday (rant warning) - 02/26/08 03:37 PM
I got that phone call AGAIN today.  This time it was a builder rather an agent, but the context of the phone call was the same.
You know that phone call- the one where the person on the other end who has never met you, seen your portfolio, visited your website, or read your blog, but wants to help you grow your business through the incredible amount of exposure they can offer you - if you will stage their property for FREE.  Really, it would be funny if they were kidding, but they never are.  Sometimes they will not even come out and say it, which … (56 comments)

professional stager: Why You Cannot Be a Stager For 'Fun' - 02/07/08 12:05 PM
This post was actually written for and posted on my other blog, but I thought all of you would like to add your 2 cents in the comments.  I only posted 5 reasons, though there are many, many more I'm sure.  This is a subject that has been coming up a lot lately and will probably be discussed more in the future, but I just had to get it off my chest.  Please add whatever reasons you feel pertinent.

professional stager: Well, Here Goes Nothing....Taking the Campaign Trail - 01/03/08 02:07 PM
It is usually not my character to promote myself for anything other than business.  I believe in letting my character speak for itself and tend not to toot my own horn.  However, I was recently nominated for the RESA Professional Stager of the year award and have just taken a look at my competition.  Let's be honest, I need to toot my own horn if I have any chance of winning this thing. ( I mean, really, have you seen the list?)
Most of the nominees are stagers that inspire me and that I strive to be like. I would have a hard … (24 comments)

professional stager: Agents: Can You Go All the Way? - 11/26/07 07:07 PM
It seems in the midwest, we all seem to think that it is better to do things ourselves than to pay anyone to do them for us and even in the real estate industry it seems no different.  Why would an agent hire a stager when they can make the same marketing suggestions that a stager would make, but do it for free?
Well, before you start thinking this is true consider this:
You may go as far as to tell your seller they need to paint, but can you go so far as to tell them what color and why?
You may go as far as to tell them they need … (10 comments)

professional stager: What a Stager Really Needs...Stamina - 11/07/07 02:19 PM
I officially opened for business September 1, 2005.  I took a staging class and was led to believe that once I opened my doors, I would have to beat the business back with a stick. Just like any new stager, I was heartbroken to figure out how much it would take to get my business off of the ground.  I had a choice to make - stick with it or throw in the towel.
I decided that I had spent a large amount of money on the class and had invested so much time in it already, I should stick it out … (58 comments)

professional stager: No Marketing = No Business - 09/24/07 06:28 PM
Three months ago I couldn't see straight for all of the work I had to do and keep track of.  Seriously, I spent more time in my car and on the phone than I did with my kids.  I started taking them with me on staging days so that I could be in the same room with them for more than a meal.  I kissed my husband goodbye as he was walking in the door at night more than I did when he left for work in the morning. I decided to cut out a few things to keep my sanity and … (39 comments)
