valparaiso home stager: The Mystery of Vacant Listings - Which Room is Which? - 05/11/08 11:57 AM
I have heard it said many times that the cost of staging is not a worthy one when it comes to vacant homes.  Staging has been described as just another way to fleece a builder - or an agent, and a waste of time and effort, especially in this market.
Below are some photos of a home I recently staged.  Had the seller decided against staging, these are the photos that would have been placed on the MLS.  Can you tell me which room is which?

valparaiso home stager: Does Staging Really Make That Much Difference in NW Indiana? - 03/26/08 12:16 PM
In the midwest, new concepts and services are slow to catch on.  We are a 'watch and wait' breed, preferring to watch things crash and burn - or succeed as it may - in other parts of the country while we plod along in the tried and true until something else tried and true comes along.
This is definitely true in the world of staging, as I am still told by resistant agents that it is not necessary stage in NW Indiana.  They still think it will not make any difference and that buyers do not care what a house looks like.  Many … (10 comments)

valparaiso home stager: The Evils of Real Estate Beige and Builder White - 02/18/08 05:17 AM
For many years now, the general concensus of color when selling a house was that one should employ the 'neutral' shades known as Real Estate Beige and Builder white.  However, it is obvious (to me, at least) that such a sweeping generalization causes more harm that good.

valparaiso home stager: Why You Cannot Be a Stager For 'Fun' - 02/07/08 04:05 AM
This post was actually written for and posted on my other blog, but I thought all of you would like to add your 2 cents in the comments.  I only posted 5 reasons, though there are many, many more I'm sure.  This is a subject that has been coming up a lot lately and will probably be discussed more in the future, but I just had to get it off my chest.  Please add whatever reasons you feel pertinent.

valparaiso home stager: Well, Here Goes Nothing....Taking the Campaign Trail - 01/03/08 06:07 AM
It is usually not my character to promote myself for anything other than business.  I believe in letting my character speak for itself and tend not to toot my own horn.  However, I was recently nominated for the RESA Professional Stager of the year award and have just taken a look at my competition.  Let's be honest, I need to toot my own horn if I have any chance of winning this thing. ( I mean, really, have you seen the list?)
Most of the nominees are stagers that inspire me and that I strive to be like. I would have a hard … (24 comments)
