staging tips: Glass Wall Vases As Artwork - Great for Staging! - 11/29/07 07:01 PM

I came across these glass vases a while back and am using them now for staging purposes.  They hang on the wall from a regular nail.  The glass is flat on the back with a hole for the nail to fit through.  They are something just a little different from hanging a painting if you are looking for a little drama in a room.  They can make quite a statement, especially if you have a very long wall and hang 3 of them in a row.  I wouldn't recommend putting anything too heavy in them though, and I definitely wouldn't use real flowers.  I'm … (29 comments)

staging tips: Home Staging On A Small Budget - Yes It Is Possible! - 08/25/07 08:25 AM
When selling your home, don't be afraid to call a home stager even if you have a small budget to work with.  It is possible to make quite a difference to your home without spending a fortune.  Below are 'before' and 'after' photos of a home I recently staged.  Although I suggested to my clients that the bedrooms be repainted to a more neutral colour and that the curtains either be replaced or removed, they opted to go with just having the rooms partially staged and decluttered.  The cost for doing this was my time only.  They did not rent any accessories or additional furniture.  See the difference in these rooms?  Imagine the total transformation … (14 comments)

staging tips: Music - A Very Important Part of Home Staging and Open Houses - 08/08/07 12:23 PM
Proper lighting, whether it be task or mood lighting, is very important when showing a home during Open Houses.  One item that can literally set the stage, but often gets overlooked, is music.
Of course, it depends on the music you choose.  You probably don't want to be playing heavy metal, punk or rap music.  As they say, there's a time and place for everything.
The music chosen for your Open House should be geared to your target audience.  For example, if you are selling a condo in a trendy area of a large city, you might want to play something that would suit that lifestyle.  Remember, … (16 comments)

staging tips: The Garage - A Forgotten Room - Stage It, Sell It! - 07/20/07 06:38 PM
I was thinking the other night of ideas for my next post.  I came up with my inspiration from my husband.  He suggested that I write about preparing your garage when selling your property.
As a car enthusiast, to him the garage is the most important room in the house (next to the kitchen - he loves to cook).  When we were looking for our home, he was most interested in checking out the garage.  At open houses, he would take one look at the garage and then quickly go through the rest of the house and announce that he didn't like that one.  … (14 comments)

staging tips: Outdoor Staging - Before and After Pictures - 07/15/07 09:42 AM
OUTDOOR STAGING

These are the before and after shots of a patio I recently staged.  There was way too much furniture outside.  It made the patio look much smaller and cramped.  The heavy furniture was all removed, the garden hose was put away and the patio was swept.  The screened-in cabana was left in place so that there was still a bug free sitting area for the evenings.

staging tips: Pets and Home Showings - Tips From A Home Stager - 07/11/07 12:52 PM

Look at this picture.  You've got to love her.  No wonder they call dogs Man's Best Friend.  Nobody loves dogs more than I do, however, when you are selling your home there are certain things you need to consider:
Hair - As the owner of a Golden Retriever, I sure know what it's like to keep on top of the constant accumulation of pet hair.  No matter how many times you clean, the hair will seem to magically reappear within no time at all.  It's important while selling your home that you vacuum and sweep on a daily basis to keep on … (15 comments)
