Like many things in today's economy, golfing is a hobby that can cost more than you'd like. Two of Durango's local courses, the semi-private Dalton Ranch Golf Club, and the private Glacier Club, just came up with remedies for the "golf's expensive" blues.
The 18-hole Dalton Ranch Golf Course is now featuring a special membership at $10,000 initiation fee- with financing available.  Dalton is home to a winter elk herd, as well as deer, fox, coyotes and bald eagles as it runs along the Animas River. Here it is mid-November and there are still trees in the Animas Valley ablaze with golden leaves. We aren't complaining, as the days have been sunny with temperatures in the 60s - much more like early October than November. While Dalton Ranch Golf Club (go to www.daltonranchgolfclub.com) is open 2 weeks later than normal and continues to have members play daily rounds, Durango Mountain Resort, our local ski area, isn't letting warm weather stop its plans to open Dec. 1.  "A fleet of new snowmaking guns" is enabling the resort to make up to 50% more snow than last year, and be more energy efficient. … (2 comments)
