More votes to end mortgage aid programs - 03/18/11 06:55 PM
Republicans on the House Financial Services Committee last week voted to end the Obama administration's flagship foreclosure program, the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP).
HAMP is among four foreclosure aid programs that House Republicans seek to end--bills which are all currently winding their way through Congress. HAMP was launched by the Obama administration two years ago with a goal to help 3-4 million struggling home owners reduce monthly mortgage payments. Yet, House Republicans say only about 540,000 home owners were enrolled in the permanent loan modifications program by the end of January.
