Oxford DDA presented with $4.7M streetscape plan.
That's how much the total estimated cost is to revamp and improve a large portion of downtown Oxford's streetscape to make it more attractive, identifiable, pedestrian friendly and hopefully, calm the large volume of traffic on M-24.
The plan encompasses changing the appearance of M-24 from the Polly Ann Trail bridge to the north all the way to Broadway St. to the south. It also includes the southern gateway to the village near the Oxford Marketplace shopping center and portions of Burdick St. to the east and west.

Homes located within walking distance of amenities such as schools, parks and shopping aren't only more convenient for their owners, often they're also worth more than homes in neighborhoods where driving is the rule, according to a new study released Tuesday.
The report looked at 94,000 real estate transactions in 15 markets. In 13 of those markets, higher levels of walkability were directly linked to higher home values.

Walkability audit, downtown Oxford MI got audited last week. This audit focused on the ability of pedestrians to navigate the downtown area and what can be done to improve the situation for non-motorized visitors.
A group consisting of Downtown Development Authority (DDA) officials, business owners, interested citizens and paid consultants put on their most comfortable shoes and hit the streets to participate in what's called a "Walkability Audit."
