Thankful Thursday - My Son's Blessing This Thanksgiving When the seasons change, sometimes we hardly notice, and other times it is brutally clear. With today being Thanksgiving, most of us took a moment and reflected on the blessings that we are grateful for. On this Thanksgiving, I am extremely grateful that my Son's Father made it through his open heart surgery. What a wonderful blessing that they were able to celebrate Thanksgiving together. We are never promised tomorrow, so make sure that everyone that is dear to you know how much you love them. You do not want your seasons to change without them

Does Brick Really Need To Weep? - 11/21/10 09:58 AM
Jay Markanich wrote another excellent post with the best illustration and description on why bricks need to weep. In our area most builders used wicks in the mortar joints for this purpose. Via Jay Markanich (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC): In the olden days the brick siding you saw on houses was structural. There were two layers of brick, into what was tied structural members. The brick was structural, the wood was interior. Currently the brick siding you see is a facade, sometimes called a "veneer," and the wood interior is the structural part of the house. Various construction materials

With An Additional $220 In Savings, I Would Buy Food For Families In Need. Several years ago I was helping deliver Santa Claus to a needy family with three of the cutest little boys with the biggest brown eyes. While shopping for the children we held out some money to go to the grocery store, so they could have a fabulous Christmas Dinner. I was so excited with the delivery that Christmas Eve. When we carried the groceries to the kitchen the

Photos From New Construction Inspections - 11/10/10 07:31 PM
Reuben Saltzman is a Minneapolis, Mn Home Inspector who wrote the best post about why you need a home inspection done especially if it is a new construction. Best advice that I have read in a long time. Via Minneapolis Home Inspections - Reuben Saltzman (Structure Tech Home Inspections): If you're buying a new construction home, get it inspected by a private home inspector. I could wax on and on about how important home inspections are for new construction, especially if the builder tells you that a private home inspection isn't necessary, but I've found that photos are far more convincing than anything I could say.
