Monday Mater ~ Carroll County, MD - 02/28/11 08:20 AM
Monday Mater ~ Carroll County, MD
Good morning AR! It’s a cold rainy Monday morning here in Maryland, but, it’s always warm inside when you have the love of a good dog, or two. I had to share how my morning started. After our morning walk, Mater asked to snuggle…with that cute pick me up Mom face. I know he won’t be little for long so I am relishing these moments. Before I laid him down in his crate I had to get this shot … left handed with my droid.

Wishing you a wonderful, productive week!

Surviving Your Serengeti, 7 Skills to Master Business and Life~Carroll County, MD
Surviving Your Serengeti, 7 Skills to Master Business and Life is Stefan Swanepoel’s new book. I appreciate the opportunity to preview the first two chapters as a member of ActiveRain.
“It’s about understanding the animal’s world as a means of gaining insight into our own.”
If someone had asked me a few days ago, what animal I see myself as, I know a giraffe would not have made my short list. You don’t get to pick which animal you would prefer to be or even offer an opinion, you … (3 comments)

What is staging? Through a Buyers Eyes ~ from Carroll County, MD - 02/21/11 07:49 PM
What is staging? Through a Buyers Eyes ~ from Carroll County, MD

What questions would these rooms prompt?
Staging is, in essence, presenting your home in accordance with what buyers are looking for. Clean, neat, organized and well maintained. You can do it yourself or hire a professional. Your Realtor® can offer insight as well.
Go outside your house and come in again, only this time, see it through the eyes of the buyer. Would you by your house as it is now? What would you be turned off by? Dishes in the sink? A dirty fish tank? A … (7 comments)

What is personal property in a real estate transaction? - 02/19/11 09:33 PM
What is personal property in a real estate transaction? Does it include my counter top microwave? How about the bench in my flower bed?
The answer is not always cut and dry. Typically, non essential items that are not attached to the property are considered personal property.
Personal property in a real estate transaction is defined, according to Dearborn Real Estate Education text book as, personal property items, called chattels, which do not fit into the definition of real property; movable objects. What is the definition of real property?  I’m glad you asked real property is the interests, benefits, and … (4 comments)

ActiveRain + Jury Duty = Success! - 02/14/11 11:53 PM
ActiveRain + Jury Duty = Success!
I have to share this quick story with my fellow Rainers. A success story! I received a call earlier this evening because a fellow Carroll County, MD resident had read my blog about Jury Duty. It made me smile because she reached out to me because of my blog here on ActiveRain.
It seems that we are both stuck wondering and not wanting to fall short on our civic obligations. You see, we have both followed the instructions and made our evening phone call to see if we need to report. The recording, with a stern … (12 comments)

Seven years ago today, I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. I believe it saved my life. - 02/11/11 11:49 PM
Seven years ago today, I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. I believe it saved my life.

I’m not sure I can make this a short story. It was 2004, a special year for my family, our eldest son, Mike, was graduating high school and I couldn’t be more proud. My 40th birthday was fast approaching and I decided it was going to be a year of celebration!

I can still see the surgeon summoning the courage to tell me the results of the biopsy. I knew, before he said it, I knew. I had breast cancer.

Answering the call for jury duty, Carroll County, MD - 02/11/11 10:58 PM
Answering the call for jury duty, Carroll County, MD

Jury duty is an opportunity to serve the community. It is a civil liberty dating back to 1215. This right is guaranteed by the United States Constitution.  Jury selection is done at random, according to mdcourts.gov, from a cross section of citizens who reside in Maryland. The cross section is drawn from voter registration as well as MVA lists.

With all that said, guess what I received in the mail a few weeks ago……

By order of the Circuit Court for Carroll County, you are hereby … (3 comments)

Wordless Wednesday ~ Coopers Rock State Forest - 02/09/11 08:14 PM

Coopers Rock State Forest
My husband & I went on a little road trip last Sunday; we drove to West Virginia to visit a friend. There were beautiful sights along the way. As we drove west on I-68 we saw these beautiful ice formations from the melting snow & recent winter weather.
I’m geography challenged so I had no idea what the area was. When I traced our trip on Google maps I was able to locate some information about the beautiful places we saw.

Coopers Rock State Forest gets its name from a legend about a … (6 comments)

Tax Time - 02/08/11 11:07 PM
Tax Time

I like getting my taxes done early, so, I spent the day making sure my business records are in order. Back in June I attended a “Tax Strategies” seminar that was really informative. It was presented by Sandy Botkin, CPA, Esq.

Every small business person hears different ideas & opinions on record keeping depending on the business you are in. I have absolutely no desire to be questioned by the IRS & not have the records to prove what I have done financially.

I tend not to believe rumors, gossip or hearsay. I like … (5 comments)

A beautiful quote & beautiful scene in Baltimore County, MD - 02/05/11 09:09 PM

A beautiful quote & beautiful scene in Baltimore County, MD

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on a lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar.
I love Man the less, but Nature more.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, here’s a beautiful quote.

In life there is a single color, as on an artist’s palette, which provokes the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love.

Winter is one of my favorite seasons! There is something about the snow blankets everything that feels like a hug from Mother Nature.
I’m thankful for the snow; we can use all the help we can get in the local reservoirs.

What is your opinion? Is snow removal on active listings optional? - 02/01/11 10:47 PM
Is snow removal on active listings optional?

I have to admit, I was a little bent when I pulled up to 3 of the 7 properties I was showing and found the snow had not been touched. Personally, it’s not a problem for me; my clients on the other hand may not always be willing to deal with it.

Last winter after the blizzard I loaded up my children, some shovels and headed to my listings. One of my sellers was physically unable to complete the job although they would have tried. We pitched in and made … (4 comments)
