John D. MacArthur Beach State Park consist of more than a two mile beach on the Atlantic Ocean, it is a 325 acre barrier island consisting of lush and diverse subtropical coastal habitat. All along the paths and walkways within the park there is a diverse array of wildlife, birds, marine life, tropical trees and plants. The park offers swimming, nature trails, bird walks, kayaking, guided snorkeling, concerts, summer day camps and more.
My granddaughter and I participated in the Butterfly Walk Guided Tour. It began at the Nature Center where out tour guide gave our group a very informative introduction on the life of a butterfly. She showed us the various species of butterflies that we hoped we would see on the nature paths, then we were on our Butterfly hunt looking for the different species.
We were very fortunate to see many of the species our tour guide mentioned. I like taking photographs but I found out that taking pictures of these fluttering creatures was almost impossible. However, I did get to capture one sleeping under a leaf. During the walk, our tour guide pointed out the Florida State Tree. the Cabbage Palm. The Palm was a very easy subject to photograph since it just stood tall and still.
It was an enjoyable morning and it gave me opportunity time to spend with my granddaughter. John D. MacArthur Beach State Park is a beautiful glimpse of Florida nature at its best.
