Empty Nesters.  It's finally happened.  My one and only daughter and best friend graduated high school and is now in her second week of college.  Husband is off to work and I am sitting here in our quite house with Daisy the miniature schnauzer, and decided that writing a blog might entertain me.

It's been a bittersweet experience sending her off to college.  She is a super-talented dancer and is majoring in Dance.  From her audition last fall they placed her in Level II for both ballet and modern dance.  Her first week of college they moved her up to level III out of IV levels in ballet, put her in pointe and partnering classes, which is not typical for college freshmen, and have had her audition for a fall show.  I'm so proud of her!  But now we're empty nesters.  My Dancer

As a newly deserted mom, I have found that wonderful tool, Skype, which allows me to video call her via computer whenever I'm feeling I need a boost out of the doldrums.  I love seeing her face!  Two of her high school buddies went with her to the same college, and I generally find them all together in her room and we have a little chat party.  Tons of fun! I think other empty nesters and their kids would love it to. Of course there is always texting, but fumbling around on the iPhone keyboard doesn't compare to seeing her cute and funny countenance on my computer screen!

So what do we do with this big house now?  As a realtor and new empty nester, it would be an easy task to put it on the market.  There are so many great deals and possibilities out there now for downsizing in Orlando.  I'm not sure I'm ready to do that yet though.  I think one major change at a time is enough for now, at least for me.  It's nice to know her room is still there (clean now!) and ready for her to come home whenever she wants to.  We have a 3 day weekend coming up and she'll be here.  Can't wait!

Well, I guess this little blog has helped a bit.  I feel like I'm chatting with a friend, one-sided though it be!  I'd love company in empty nesters land!
