Who really knows if the media is responsible for the housing woes. I do recall a hoax pulled on radio listeners involving a Mars invasion by Orson Wells though. It is still talked about this day; it had everyone in a frenzy and preparing for worlds end. Does that sound familiar in the housing market? There is no doubt that the media has a major influence in the fluctuations of the housing market. We as consumers must not believe everything the media says. Common sense goes a long way! Most of the gloom and doom predicted does not apply to everyone that owns a home, is trying to buy a home, or needs to sell a home. Waco is a great market; we continually have growth and steadily appreciate in home value each and every year. 2007 is no different and 2008 will be another great year. The medias coverage on the housing market is a one sided story. Real Estate oscillates as does anything else. Waco does not see the fluctuations that the typical story is covering (New York, California, Seattle, Florida). One can not purchase a $30,000 and turn around and sell it for $400,000! Therefore we have a steady, slow, reliable appreciation. If you are on the market to sell and you are serious there will not be a problem. It might take a couple of months longer just because of the current inventory but your home will sell. By serious I mean: You, or your Realtor has priced your home according to market expectations Your home is on a PRO-ACTIVE marketing campaign Your home looks good, smells good and shows good The news can not cover the depth of the housing market in a 30 second plug. Do yourself a favor and stop watching the real estate section. If you want to know what is going on call the National Association of Realtors, Texas Association of Realtors, or the Waco Association of Realtors and get the full story. Dont let the Media Martians get you.
