When the birthdays of our loved ones comes along it's always a day of happiness. My granddaughter Isabella was born last year on my husband's birthday so today our family celebrates her 1st birthday along with his.
We couldn't be together with her on this very special day because Isabella lives in Louisiana where my son is stationed in the U.S. Army. It's especially hard when we can't spend these special moments together when our loved ones are so far away.
After coming home from the office today and enjoying a delicious spaghetti and crab sauce dinner with my birthday boy I was getting ready to pick up the phone to call Isabella when the phone rang. I couldn't believe it when I looked at the phone and saw my son's number in Lousiana come up. At the exact moment I was going to call to wish Isabella a happy birthday, he was calling to wish his Dad one too!

A time held tradition in Morris Cove is the annual Morris Cove Halloween Parade. The East Shore Neighborhood Preservation Association (ESNPA) has been running this event for over twenty years.
The ESNPA is a non-partisan, non political civic organization which monitors zoning issues and takes part in activities which enhance the quality of life and fosters an increased sense of community among the residents of Morris Cove.
The ESNPA at their summer fundrasiser which is held with the cooperation of Anthony's Ocean View raises the money it needs each year to host events like the Morris Cove Halloween Parade.
The ESNPA purchases the Halloween candy and puts together 475 bags which are given out to the children who take part in the parade. Doughnuts, apple cider, coffee and hot chocolate is also provided at the end of the parade route for the children and their families.
For a while it looked like the weather was going to threaten the parade last night with some rain but luckily we only had a few sprinkles for a few minutes before it started.
It's a fun-filled night for the children and families of the East Shore neighborhoods of the Annex and Morris Cove. The parade is held each year on Halloween night at 6:00 pm. Hundreds of children start gathering at the beginning of the parade route at Parker Place and are broken down into groups from Pre-K to the 6th grade.
At the end of the parade route are three judges on a reviewing stand who award prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with the most original costumes for each grade. There's even a group for any adults who wish to dress up in costume and particpate in the event. We even had a few pets dressed up in costume this year too!
As a life long resident of Morris Cove, it's an event I look forward to each year and remember vividly when my now two grown sons would dress up in their costumes and march in the parade. The originality of the costumes is incredible as you'll see in the video not only from the winners but from all of the children to participated in this year's parade.
If you'd like more information about the East Shore Neighborhood Preservation Association or would be interested in becoming a member, contact Tina Doyle at 203-469-1125.
I recently had the pleasure of working with a client who was relocating from Chapel Hill NC and was in need of a rental property before starting her new position at Pepsico located at Science Park in New Haven CT.
Mary and I had been in contact via email and phone for a number of months prior to her first visit to look at rentals. She had done quite a bit of research online and had narrowed her search to the Branford and Guilford area with an emphasis on finding a waterfront rental.
We were successful in finding her exactly what she was looking for along Lake Quonninipaug in Point Arrowhead. It's a fully furnished year round rental that overlooks the lake with spectacular views. For Mary it was like finding paradise after living in residence in a college area.
Mary moved into her new place last week and will be starting her position at Pepsico tomorrow. As soon as she gets settled in we'll be getting together to share a glass of wine, light a roaring fire and take in the beauty of Lake Quonnipaug.
Military Moms Of America - In Support Of Our Sons & Daughters
As a military mom, sister and aunt this is one the most inspiring and touching videos I've ever seen. It was shown last night on the Glenn Beck show and was put together by a mom just like me who has a child who is bravely and valiantly serving our country.
After visiting the Military Moms of Americawebsite, I was so moved by what this group is doing to support our Armed Forces that I joined their effort. This site is full of links and information covering political issues and legislation affecting the our military along with forums to exchange ideas and have discussions. It's a place where you can upload photos or videos of family members, friends or anything that pertains to all branches of our Armed Forces.
This is not a political post. This is about a mother's love for her son, a sister's love for her brother, an aun'ts love for her nephew and an American citizen's love of our military and our country.
Please visit the Military Moms of America website and join their effort. It is open to family members, members of the military, friends and anyone who is inspired like I was to take action in helping our loved ones get the support they need now!
Today is my youngest brother's birthday. He is the baby of our family of six children. I was 16 years old when David was born and thrilled to have a little baby in our house after an 8 year span between my youngest sister and David.
David loved to sing and entertain our family whenever he could. When my husband and I got married in June 1975, David was the ringbearer in my wedding and was the hit of our reception with his solo performance of "Tie A Yellow Ribbon" by Tony Orlando. At 4 1/2 he was such a little cutie!!
Many years have passed since then but Dave's love of music has never gone away. Late in his teens, he started playing the drums and joined a band which he is still part of today.
David is a member of the Connecticut National Guard. He has already done a one year tour in Afghanistan returning home in April 2007 and is scheduled to be deployed again at the beginning of next year.
In celebration of Veteran's Day on November 11, 2009 our family and David's friends will be getting together before he is deployed for his second year long tour to Afghanistan.
I love you Dave and will miss you so much. I'll be thinking of you every second that you're gone. Your big sister is so proud of you for serving our country.
