 Such a wonderful time of year to take in Mother Nature, enjoy a nice walk outdoors and view the beautiful sceneries.  I'd like to share with you some information on the St. Joseph Parkway System and some photos I have along the parkway from last year.  I think it will be some motivation to get you all out for a little hike, bike or ride along the 26-mile system.

The large building at 602 Francis, St Joseph MO, was built in 1918 as a Department Store where Townsend Wyatt and Wall occupied the building until 1983.
 

Townsend Wyatt and Wall was the lead department store in Downtown St. Joseph, carrying up-scaled clothing, furniture, small appliances and more. 
Residents recall the luncheon counter where shoppers and visitors came for a quick lunch and a fountain coke. 
The 3rd floor was the mezzanine where shoppers could sit, rest and watch others shopping.  The basement was called the bargain basement where shoppers could save money while still shopping at Townsend Wyatt and Wall.

Over the summer the pool saw thousands of visitors, even for a summer with not so many hot days! 
                    
Aquatic Park is a awesome place for an entire day or even just a few hours.  Many families and companies also take advantage of the park and book their family reunion, birthday parties and company picnics at the pool.  The park is so attractive and above all is an attraction that competes right up with the best water parks in the area.  People love to go because it is close and inexpensive fun!

The Pony Express monument, is located on the corner of Tenth and Frederick streets in downtown               St. Joseph, Missouri.

Walter Cronkite was born in 1916, in St Joseph. His father Walter Cronkite Sr., and grandfather Frederick Cronkite were both dentists in St Joseph.  When Mr. Cronkite was about 6 months old his dentist father joined the military and the family temporarily relocated to Oklahoma.  At the time when Dr. Cronkite was sent overseas, young Walter and his mother moved to Kansas City where her parents lived.

WOW, What an attractive building!  As you enter the doors of the National Military Heritage Museum you soak up more than just the history of our military services. 
The large, brick structure speaks for itself when it comes to its beautiful appearance, but visitors can't help but be suspicious of the long-lived history of the building as they walk through and view exhibits.

After many questions going back and forth between Missouri Western State University, the State of Missouri  and the Kansas City Chiefs...construction is set to begin as soon as July 1!  The facility design plans are down to the final drafts.
It is for sure that St. Joseph will be the new HOME to the KC Chiefs Training Camp starting in 2010!

Traveling 1,966 miles is quite a journey traveling by plane or car; can you imagine traveling that on horse back?  Well, between the years1860-1861 this route between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California was traveled daily.  Although it was broken down into relay rides of 80-100 miles this is a journey people are still interested in today.  And the history of the Pony Express still remains alive.

St Joseph Missouri Benton High School received a Bronze metal as one of America's Best High Schools, according to  U.S.News & World Report, a prominent media group. 
The media group, along with School Evalutation Services, an education research firm, evaluated 21,069 public high schools in 48 states on their "standardized test performance," "proficiency rates of all students" and "challenging college-ready curriculum."  Data was taken from the 2006-2007 school year,according to the article in stjoenews.net.
