In Lake Travis, near the 620 Mansfield Dam area, when it doesn't rain for a while, the lake levels drop, and "Sometimes Island" appears in the middle of the main body. Yes, the name is a common sense thing. There is an island "sometimes" as it's usually covered.
According to the news station I watch for weather, since October 2010, we're over 25 inches low on average rain fall. Yes, we're in a drought here in Austin TX. Here's a picture of Lake Travis back in April 2011 that I took from the Oasis Restaurant. No Island...

Since Lake Travis in Austin TX was very low for several months, now that we've gotten rain, look at what has washed into the water.
It's not all over, mainly at the Jonestown section of Lake Travis. Even my daughter pointed at it and said, "icky!"

Lake Travis Austin TX is currently ABOVE its average lake level!! Austin TX, along with Central Texas Hill Country as a whole, has been in a two year drought. Lake Travis sustained at the beginning, but the Summer of 2009 was hard. By early September, this is what Lake Travis looked like at my family's cove. Absolutely NO water, as levels were around 625 feet!
It is just a few months later, and as of this past weekend, Lake Travis is now over 670 feet!! And the better news? It's raining today, and will rain most of the week!! This … (13 comments)

Lake Travis - Austin TX - As many know, Central Texas is in a 24 month drought at the moment, and Lake Travis - Austin TX is nearing record lows, as we're currently in third place for lowest levels. All public boat ramps on Lake Travis have been shut down, though the ramps for Lake Austin are still open, as Lake Austin is a constant level lake.

On Thursday, I had a Mother's Night Out with some local moms in the Lakeway, Bee Cave, and Spicewood, TX areas. We went to the Iguana Grill on 620 in Lakeway.
It was hot, but we sat on the patio anyway. They had misters with fans blowing on us, but it's the view you come for.
With record breaking heat this summer and record draught over a 23 months period going on, there are amazing shots you can get today that you probably won't come near to seeing next year.

Lake Travis - Austin TX - The lake is drying up. This is so sad... look at the below pictures of my In-law's cove on Lake Travis down Hudson Bend.
They bought a brand new boat this year, and it's been out of the water for 3 weeks already because it would be sitting on the bottom of the lake. The "hike" down to the lake is getting further and further away. It used to be right outside their backyard fence. Sailing on Lake Travis in Austin TX looks like a lot of fun. We were out on Lake Travis in our ski boat and so were a bunch of sailboats. It was almost like they were having their own little race going on as they were everywhere and kept encircling.
Here are some of the shots I got. Alyssa especially liked the Blue one.
The water is low on Lake Travis, but people are still out having fun and being careful!

Lake Travis - Austin TX has many unexpected islands and dangers. The lake levels are so low right now they're the 5th lowest in Lake Travis history. If you're going to go out this Holiday weekend, or any day, please be aware of the dangers of the lake.
Here are some islands that we had to navigate around.
The water is so low, many docks weren't meant to float that far out. Many docks have collided into each other, and many docks have run out of ramp room.

There are many places around the Austin area for fireworks this year. Here are but a handful of them. We'll probably be going to the Hill Country Galleria, or if Alyssa falls asleep too early, we'll just watch them from our balcony.
Tonight, July 3, you can see fireworks from Carlos 'n Charlies off Lake Travis. We plan on grilling some dinner on the patio at my in-laws and then heading out on the boat to watch the fireworks from the water.

Lake Austin - Austin TX - Lakefront Homes needed to be explored since last week, we ventured out to Lake Travis to show you some waterfront Homes.
This past weekend, we went out to the other side of the Mansfield Dam to check out Lake Austin.
Lake Austin is MUCH colder than Lake Travis because it's a constant-level lake that is fed through the Mansfield Dam from the bottom of Lake Travis. The water at the very bottom never sees the sun, so it stays cold and that cold water is what feeds Lake Austin.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been posting a "How Was Your Weekend?" blog. People have seemed to enjoy seeing how my family and I spend time together, so here's another weekend.
We went to the Bee Cave Galleria, also known as the Hill Country Galleria, where they have this area of shooting water. Great, FREE Entertainment!
We went out on the boat to check out Lake Austin. The water is much colder than Lake Travis, but with it being 107 degrees, the water felt awesome!! These are half of my in-laws with Alyssa and her shades.

Lake Travis - Austin TX -Lakefront Homes sit nicely above the water. I was out on the boat this weekend, and I decided to take some pictures of some of the gorgeous houses on Lake Travis. Many people think that "lake front" means that the house is right there at the lake and they can just walk out their backdoor to the dock...

How was Your Weekend? Did you do anything fun? We had another non-stop weekend of activity. Here are just a few of the pictures showing how much fun we all had!
We went out on the boat on Lake Travis and the waves were crashing like crazy. Alyssa likes the water and we swam for a little bit too. Aren't her water shoes cute? They're so little.

The entire Austin, TX area needs rain so badly, but I don't think we needed quite as much as what we got last night, and parts of the area tonight.
There were two confirmed tornados that touched down, one in Cedar Park, and one in Round Rock. I'm about 20-30 minutes from those two areas respectfully, so we were able to avoid all the nastiness.
However, we did get a lot of rain. Yes, we needed rain, so I was happy about that, but when it rains like this, nothing really gets a chance to soak in as it all just … (9 comments)

We're still in March, but Spring weather has definitely hit already. Remember the saying, "In like a lion and out like a lamb"? The year has already started out with the Lions!!
Here are some pictures of Hail. I should have put something down next to them so you could see the reference of size, but these pieces of hail were HUGE! Some were quarter sized, golf ball sized, baseball size, etc...
