lakeway tx: Barton Roofing - Lakeway TX - Horrible Customer Service Attitude - 08/26/10 10:04 AM
If you're looking for an endorsement on your services from me, don't be an idiot and make yourself look like a fool! For those in the Lakeway TX area, I recommend you NOT call Barton Roofing for your roofing needs, and here's why...I have a house under contract with some wonderful buyers. I was trying to get them a roofing allowance for the small amount of hail damage on the roof they're buying. It's no big deal as it's not very much damage and it's basically cosmetic, but if the bank will agree to a couple of hundred dollars to repair

lakeway tx: Lake Travis Library - Summer Book Sale - 08/10/10 12:24 PM
Lake Travis Community Library is holding their annual Friends of the Library summer book sale this Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 8am- 1 pm. You can get an entire bag of books for only $10! They will provide the bags, and you just fill them up and cram as many as you can inside. I'm so sick of reading the same books over and over again to Alyssa, that I'm going to be sure to be there! Instead of being at the actual library, the event is being held at the Jack Brown Cleaners down the street at 1508 RR 620

lakeway tx: Lakeway Regional Medical Center - Lakeway TX - Construction Starts Again - 03/25/10 01:03 PM
Lakeway Regional Medical Center - Lakeway TX - is about to start construction again. Back in the Fall of 2008, it was announced that a new hospital was being built in Lakeway TX that would be just over 50 acres and cost roughly $250M to be completely in 2011... But around September of 2009, all of a sudden, there was no activity going on around the site. I heard many stories. One was that the site was going to increase and they needed Austin Energy to approve moving the electrical stuff. Another was that they were trying to get a

lakeway tx: First Week at New School - 01/10/10 10:57 AM
Alyssa completed her first week at her new school, Primrose School of Bee Cave. I'm not very excited that her other school closed and that I had to scramble to find a new one in under a week. I'm not thrilled with the lack of choices in the Bee Cave TX area for child care. In the immediate area, there are two daycares plus three Montessori schools. One daycare is for ages 2 1/2 and up, so that was eliminated easily. Plus, when I was in there last year to check them out, there was one teacher for about 30 kids

lakeway tx: Foto Friday - Trick or Treating at the Hill Country Galleria - Bee Cave Austin TX - 10/30/09 02:38 PM
The Hill Country Galleria - Bee Cave Austin TX - had their trick or treating event last night. This was Alyssa's first time to trick or treat as last year, she wasn't even one yet, and she didn't like her ladybug costume. We had visited the Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary a couple of times, and she became obsessed with the Tigers and "big cats" so I bought her a Leopard costume. "I don't like that, Mommy!" I heard that for two weeks. Yesterday afternoon, she decided she liked it when I put the head band on her head and took her

lakeway tx: City of Lakeway TX - Lakeway City Park - Halloween Goblin Glow - 10/18/09 10:41 AM
The City of Lakeway TX had their annual Halloween Goblin Glow last night at the Lakeway City Park on Hurst Creek. This was our first time to go, so I didn't know what to expect. There were five hot air balloons and every so often, they would light their fire and make the balloons glow. You could go right up to the baskets of the balloons and trick-or-treat. They gave out lots of candy. There was also face painting, hair spraying with colors, people on stilts, and a balloon artist. Alyssa got her hair sprayed Orange to go with her

lakeway tx: Real Estate - Buying a House - Austin TX- The Simple Steps to Follow- Part 7 - 08/25/09 10:46 AM
When buying a house in Austin TX, there are several steps to follow, but if broken down, it's much less intimidating. What else helps? Doing the steps in a particular order. For example, Buying a house in Austin TX, the Simple Steps to Follow- Part 1 of this series talked about getting Pre-Approved for a mortgage, while Part 2 talked about how to start looking for houses and neighborhoods. Part 3 talked about actually looking at the insides of houses, while Part 4 talked about writing the offer. Part 5 I talked about the inspections, while Part 6 talked about the waiting game.

lakeway tx: School Traffic is Horrible and Ruins the Entire Morning - 08/24/09 09:06 AM
Today is the first day back to school for the Austin area, including my district of Lake Travis ISD. My daughter's daycare is about 5 miles away. Not very far, right? It took me 48 minutes to get there and back this morning! Why? It took me 3 rounds of the light just to get out of my neighborhood. Then, it's fairly smooth sailing to the daycare because all the hundreds of cars are in the left turn lane to get into the schools. The Lake Travis Middle School, Lake Travis High School, AND the Lake Travis ISD Administration building are all right

lakeway tx: What kinda Bike is This? Is it Street-Legal? - 08/23/09 12:27 PM
I was heading to an appointment yesterday morning, and this interesting vehicle passed me and I had to do a double take. It then pulled in front of me, and I decided to take a picture so I could ask my husband if this was a street-legal bike. I few miles later, I had to change lanes to turn, and I ended up right next to it, and thought to take this picture. It's a little stretched, but not much. This thing is long!! I can't believe it was keeping up with 65 mph speeds! It looks like it

lakeway tx: Lake Travis - Austin TX- View from Iguana Grill - 08/23/09 12:11 PM
Lake Travis -Austin TX - View from the Iguana Grill. On Thursday, I had a Mother's Night Out with some local moms in the Lakeway, Bee Cave, and Spicewood, TX areas. We went to the Iguana Grill on 620 in Lakeway. It was hot, but we sat on the patio anyway. They had misters with fans blowing on us, but it's the view you come for. With record breaking heat this summer and record draught over a 23 months period going on, there are amazing shots you can get today that you probably won't come near to seeing next year. Here

lakeway tx: Austin TX Creatures- Gecko of Luck - 08/23/09 11:44 AM
This lovely, Lucky, creature was found inside my home a couple of days ago. We let it outside. It is rumored that if you see geckos in or around your home, it means good luck. I sure could use some good luck on a lot of issues these days, so I'm crossing my fingers and holding my breath!! The picture was taken with my camera phone so the image is not the greatest. I tried to make it sharper, but whenever I increased the size, he was very blurry...

lakeway tx: Austin, TX Restaurants- Mangia Chicago Stuffed Pizza - 08/16/09 03:10 PM
As we make our way around to some of Austin, TX's staple restaurants, this one was recommended by my cousin and his wife, Mangia Chicago Stuffed Pizza. My husband has been looking for a great place to get a stuffed pizza, but always complains. Friday night was different as he was all about YUMMY! We got there in time for Happy Hour which was $2 pints and specials on their appetizers and since it takes 30 minutes to properly cook a stuffed pizza, we ordered the Spinach and Artichoke dip, and it was great! We also ordered a side salad

lakeway tx: Will Austin TX Weather Break a Record this Summer? - 08/07/09 02:36 PM
Today is day 48 of OVER 100 degree weather! The heat is rather ridiculous if you ask me... and anyone else around here! Here are some numbers to know: 69 days over 100 in 192566 days over 100 in 192350 days over 100 in 2008 After the weekend, we could very easily move into the third spot. August is traditionally the hottest month of the year so we have plenty of time to hit another 19 days over 100 to climb to the top of the list. Do I want to break the record? Yes, but NO. I'm sick of the

lakeway tx: Flowers by Nancy, too in Lakeway, TX - 08/07/09 01:53 PM
I stopped into Flowers by Nancy, too today to get my free "Welcome to the Neighborhood" plant that is offered. I took this opportunity to get some information about this great, local flower store. The first thing you'll notice when you drive up is that you're driving into a boat dealership. This is because Donna and Jeff Parker also own Austin Boats and Motors right next door. Within the boat store, they used to have a flower shop. Some years ago, the John Deere dealership next door became available, and they moved the flower business over there.

lakeway tx: Another Austin TX Creature - 08/05/09 09:56 AM
Every chance I get, I've been posting pictures of the creatures and critters I see in and around my house. Some look friendly, while other's look not-so-friendly. Here is our latest friend that we encountered. Oscar (the dog) didn't quite know what to do with him. He was scared at first as it hopped around. But then he put his paw out in friendly play. Mr. Toad allowed me to snap a couple of pictures before hopping under the BBQ grill for "safety". **Are You Packed Yet?** Donna Harris, REALTOR®RE/MAX Austin Skylinewww.DonnaHomes.comDonna@DonnaHomes.com Austin, TX and the surrounding areas of Lakeway,

lakeway tx: My New Hummingbird Friends - 07/19/09 07:55 PM
Alyssa got her Daddy a Hummingbird feeder for Father's Day, however we just hung it a few days ago. Look at the visitor we had! The Hummingbird is actually blurry because of the speed of the flapping of the wings, but I tried to get a picture as in-focus as possible. How do they find the feeders? The internet says they cannot smell it, and to not worry about coloring the water because they can't see it. How did these hummingbirds know the feeder was there? They appeared within an hour of putting it out in the tree. **Are

lakeway tx: Sailing - Lake Travis- Austin TX - 07/15/09 09:08 AM
Sailing on Lake Travis in Austin TX looks like a lot of fun. We were out on Lake Travis in our ski boat and so were a bunch of sailboats. It was almost like they were having their own little race going on as they were everywhere and kept encircling. Here are some of the shots I got. Alyssa especially liked the Blue one. The water is low on Lake Travis, but people are still out having fun and being careful! As of yesterday, "large" boats are no longer allowed to launch at the last

lakeway tx: Can You Identity this Creature? - 07/12/09 08:32 PM
Thus far, you guys have been able to name everything I've thrown at you, but can you name this creature? My husband said it was a dragonfly, but we've seen many dragonflies while on the boat, and this is no dragonfly. It nicely let me take a few pictures and then as soon as I put the camera down, it flew away. What am I? **Are You Packed Yet?** Donna Harris, REALTOR®RE/MAX Austin Skylinewww.DonnaHomes.comDonna@DonnaHomes.com Austin, TX real estate and the surrounding areas of Lakeway, Bee Cave, Westlake Hills, Cedar Park, Round Rock, Spicewood, Circle-C, Steiner Ranch, and everywhere in between...

lakeway tx: Barton Springs Pool is FREE for Everyone on July 11, 2009 - 07/10/09 01:23 PM
Barton Springs Pool, inside Zilker Park, is going to be FREE tomorrow, July 11, 2009. I would say they're doing it just because it's my birthday and I'm special, but they're doing it because it has been HOT HOT in Austin the past few weeks, and everyone needs to cool off. Why is Barton Springs a good place to cool off? Because the current temperature is 68 degrees! Barton Springs is filled from a natural Spring so the water temperature typically remains much cooler than other lakes and rivers where the sun is heating them all summer long. Granted, you'll
