Tonight, from 6-7:30pm, the First Baptist Church of Plano is having a Fall Festival for the community. This is where Alyssa goes to daycare so we thought we would check it out.
I heard there is going to be face painting and pony rides. And it's FREE! They're also going to have food and candy.
They are encouraging kids and adults to dress up, but nothing scary because of all the young kids.

Do you ever not do something because you're afraid of embarrassing yourself, even in front of people you don't know?
I usually go swimming two to three times a week at the Oak Point Center in Plano, TX. They have a very nice indoor pool. Membership for Plano residents is ONLY $65 a year!! I fall into that category living in Richardson because my neighborhood feeds into Plano schools. Outside residents are only about $125 a year or something like that, so it still beats the heck out of a gym membership.

Instead of just talking about, this year we decided to actually go to the Balloon Festival. It was a lot of fun. It was Alyssa's first Festival and she "people watched" like crazy. It was a beautiful day, not much of a breeze. We saw the Re/Max Parachuters jump, and that was really cool. They all landed right where they were supposed to. Lots of practice.
We didn't stay for the fireworks, but I went outside at 9pm and could see them from the front yard. That was the better idea so we didn't have to fight traffic afterwards.

I was out with Alyssa this morning, furniture browsing, as we need a new kitchen table before we put the house on the market. We went to one store and found a couple of options. On our way to the second store, I passed a big yellow sign that read "STORE CLOSING", and I did a double-take. Yes, the Toys 'R Us in Plano off 75 Central Expressway is closing and moving to Allen, just a few miles up the road.

The Annual Plano Balloon Festival is almost here! This is always a fun time. I never go to the actual festival, but I live a couple of miles from where the balloons take off, so I can see all the action from my back patio or upstairs windows. It's always a beautiful site.
As always, Re/Max is one of the major corporate sponsors. Could you ask for anything less when Re/Max's logo is a hotair balloon?

The BEST baby and toddler consignment sale in DFW starts tomorrow at 8am at the Plano Centre in Plano, TX. This will be my third time to attend. I love being able to buy next-to-new for cheap cheap prices. Babies use toys for such a short period of time, why pay retail when you don't have to?
Alyssa is now walking while pushing things, so I'll be getting her another push toy to keep at Grandma's. She also needs a swing to hang from a tree and maybe a play fort that she can climb around in.

plano tx: Dallas Metroplex has 10 Cities in Top 100 Best Places - 07/22/08 09:50 AM
Many suburbs of Dallas, TX made CNN Money's top 100 places to live list for 2008. What I find interesting is that 10 cities in the Dallas area made the list, but only 1 city from the Austin area made the list, Round Rock. Of those 10 cities, I have to admit, I'm shocked by a couple of the cities that made it, but as to not offend anyone, I will not mention which ones are unbelievable.
This is interesting because Austin is constantly and consistently on the list of one of the best places to live. They're supposed to have a great housing … (6 comments)

My community, Woods of SpringCreek in Richardson, TX finally received the turnabout they've been talking about for years. Telecom was a dead-end street, but it was never finished off because the plans were to make it a through street.
With enough support from the homeowners, we convinced the City of Richardson to not allow it to be a through street and to keep the traffic away from our small, quiet community. They then agreed to connect two different streets in order to make traffic flow from Plano into Richardson, Los Rios and North Star.

Last June, I blogged about Richardson TX becoming the new Cancer Hub for the area. Well, it's a year later, and they're almost done with the buildings. Each time I went in for my pregnancy follow ups last year, I would watch out the window as they were working. At that time, it seemed like they were moving so slow, but they were just putting in the infrastructure like the new parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks.

Brand New Gated Community just starting building it's first spec home, Cantera. Cantera is in North East Richardson TX where I refer to it as the "Red-Headed Step Child of Richardson." I call this area that because it's the city of Richardson, but it's Collin County and Plano Schools, so we sometimes get overlooked (I live about a mile from this new community).
There are 49 homesites, and the lots themselves are selling for what my house costs! The finished products will range from $700,000 to upwards of $3M!! They have already sold 10 lots so they're well on their way.

Please keep an eye out for your new Property Tax valuations in the mail. They'll be going out the week of May 5. It's very important to look at this document and make sure there are no problems. I am currently working with some home owners who just found out that they've been assessed with a pool, and they don't have a pool. They've been in the house for 30 years, and who knows when the pool was added to the documents, but even if it's $10k high because of this error, that's a lot over 30 years.

Why are you still over pricing your house even after all the education I try to give and explain? Over pricing will get you no where. It might get people in the door since people are looking in all types of price ranges, but as soon as they walk in, they'll say, "This house is not anywhere near a $350k house in this neighborhood, how could they price it at $369,900?"

Does the look of neighboring houses effect the value of your house? Do you have a neighbor who doesn't mow their lawn as often as you would like? Or even if they mow it, is the yard all weeds instead of grass? Do you have a neighbor who loves huge rose bushes, but doesn't know how to maintain them, so they make the house look really bad and not taken care of?

It is time to make Richardson TX smoke free. It's funny that everyone is campaigning for this now, when we just voted in for Richardson to sell beer and wine. You would think that smoking goes hand in hand with beer and wine since smoking at bars is the most common place people smoke.
However, I guess many are thinking to themselves that they can't have their cake and eat it too. If they want to buy their beer and wine in Richardson, they must take it home to smoke!

This is where I spent my evening last night. Plano's Divine Consign is like a huge garage sale for parent's to get rid of their kid stuff without having to worry about organizing a garage sale or haggling prices. I had never heard of this before, but why should I have when I haven't had kids before.

The Richardson Independent School District in Richardson, TX (some residents in Dallas, TX) have achieved the "Recognized" status for its second straight year. This is very hard to do. Richardson is the largest urban district in the state of Texas to achieve this accomplishment!!
Each year, the different campuses, Elementary, Junior, and High Schools, are all ranked based on the TAKS Test (Texas Assessment of KNowledge and Skills). There are 24 rated categories throughout the tests and each category must be passed by each student group in order for the school to pass in order for the district to pass.

All Texas cities are finally out of the top 10 areas for foreclosures. What a huge jump. Texas, as a whole, has been at number one and number 2 a few times...
Dallas is ranked 17th and FtWorth-Arlington area is ranked 13th. So, we're not out of the top 10 by very far, but it's definitely a turn in the right direction!
Compared to the first half of 2006, Texas filings were actually down by 13%. All major Texas big city areas were down, except the Ft Worth- Arlington area, which was up 5%... again, it's the lower end properties where the people are typically first time … (2 comments)
