real estate marketing: Broker Looking to Hire a Not-So-Smart Agent - 08/08/11 10:30 AM
I got a very interesting email this weekend from a Broker. He tells me he's looking to hire a REALTOR® to help him write articles and "area related content" for his website. Yes, he's actually sending emails out to local agents asking them to write content for his site to help build his business! The audacity! Some of the criteria? This person needs a "deep knowledge" of Austin, a writing background, a car, a camera, and "education preferably". How much education?  A 5th grade education? A high school diploma? A Masters?  Or maybe a PhD?  And if you have so much … (20 comments)

real estate marketing: Real Estate and Today's Technology - The QR Code in Action - 06/10/11 12:18 PM
If you know me, and know me well, you know that I think print marketing is basically dead.  I market about 99% online and through efforts that don't include a classified ad in the newspaper or magazine.
One print marketing that I do is a magazine that goes out to my past and current clients, as well as my doctor's and dentist's offices and various friends and people I've met out and about. I even have one going to the Labor and Delivery waiting room at Seton SouthWest Hospital in South Austin where I had my baby.  You never know if … (17 comments)

real estate marketing: The Closing Gift that Everyone Can Appreciate - 03/25/11 02:43 PM
Over the years, I've given many closing gifts out to my clients.  I also go back and forth about whether or not a closing gift is necessary.  If I have major surgery, my doctor doesn't give me a gift to thank me for my business.  If I go to a restaurant, I have to tip the server instead of them tipping me to thank me for my business.  When I go to the dentist, I get a $0.25 toothbrush which is impersonal since I use an electric toothbrush.
With that said, when I do give closing gifts, I like to give … (19 comments)

real estate marketing: Blogging is Today's "Traditional" Marketing - Another Success Story - 10/05/10 11:14 AM
Donna, Why do you spend so much time blogging? Why?  Because that's where much of my business is coming from! How is that possible? Shouldn't you be doing traditional marketing? Blogging is today's tradition, and it's been tradition for the past few years as well!  Here's my latest example of how my blog works for me. I spoke with a young family on a Friday in July driving back to Houston to close on their previous house. They mentioned they had been following my blog since January, but didn't contact me until July because they had 2 previous buyers on their … (57 comments)

real estate marketing: Real Estate Opinions - Is it the Pricing or the Marketing? - 10/21/09 10:21 AM
Real Estate Opinions - What's more important, Pricing the home properly or the marketing?  Yes, I understand the majority of people will say it's a combination of both, but that's not my question.  If you could only do one thing for a listing, would you price it properly and aggressively from day one or would you market the heck out of it and hope for the best? I've recently run into two different situations with sellers who have their homes on the market.  They're both using two different strategies, or at least their agents are. The first one has had the … (75 comments)

real estate marketing: Kids as Marketing Tools - 09/11/09 09:55 AM
Back, before Alyssa was born, I blogged about one of my Baby Shower Gifts.  I received some onsies that I thought were so cute.

Now that Alyssa is older and they fit, she's actually past the age for "onsies" so I thought they were wasted.  However, this past weekend, I cut the bottoms off to make them just t-shirts.  Genius!!
I put one on her earlier this week and sent her off to school.
The teachers thought it was so cute.  I also ran into another Realtor while dropping her off. She noticed my Realtor license plates first, and then … (18 comments)

real estate marketing: Speechless Sunday- Listing *Coming Soon* Can Hurt You - 09/06/09 02:07 PM

I posted this picture in a blog post last week, but it didn't get very much attention, so I decided to post it as a nasty "Speechless Sunday" picture.  Would you want to look at this house if you were a prospective buyer?  You need to know when to advertise, and when not to, and this is a time to let the trash be picked up before you put your sign in the yard!
