Monday Motivation………..I have a RIGHT!
"The right to do something does not mean that doing it is right."
~ William Safire ~

I have often wondered where the saying, “Just do it and then ask for forgiveness later”, came from.  I always try doing the right thing and more often I do the right thing.  Then there are times that I let me get the best of me and because I can do something I will lower my head like a bull and plow right through something because I have a right to.It is during those times of doing something … (6 comments)

attitude: What Have I (or You) Got to Complain About? Meet Butch Lumpkin, You Might Look at Your Life a Bit Differently - 02/14/10 07:23 PM
How are you feeling about yourself today?  I know that I have been feeling a bit down lately and then along came Butch Lumpkin and Mike Saunders and turned it all around.
Watch the video and then comment about how you are feeling.

Via Mike Saunders (Keller Williams Realty - Greater Athens):
I woke up this morning with the increasing aches and pains of getting a bit older. I winced, grumbled, moaned and groaned and loudly commisserated about no longer being young and spry. About how nature is mistreating us in our prime years.
And then I remembered a video clip … (9 comments)

attitude: Be Careful Where You Flock...... - 06/22/09 07:34 PM
We have all heard the old saying "Birds of a feather flock together", right?  Just the other day an agent in the office brought this to mind when she used is as part of an analogy while talking about some of her friends.  You know it was kinda like we were around the water cooler and had nothing better to do and it sure beat working.  But I digress......
It seems as though birds have this way of flocking together with like birds.  And we humans like to do the same thing.
Those that like to party don't like to hang … (69 comments)

attitude: What is age all about? - 06/14/09 07:05 PM
What is age all about?
In the time that I have been in real estate I have listed and sold many properties.  They have all been different styles and ages and price ranges.  The sellers have been in different age ranges.  And up until this week I have not listed a home that is owned by folks in their 80's.  Now most would think that the interior would be, well you know, dated.  The thought is that seniors are living in the past and can't get out of it.  They don't have any taste, all they like are things that are … (26 comments)

attitude: What a difference a day makes……… - 06/02/09 05:53 AM
What a difference a day makes.........
We have all experienced it; one day there is a storm brewing.  It is like the whole world is about to break forth in a massive storm.

Problems with our clients, building inspections, financing contingencies and even buyer remorse what else could possibly go wrong?  Then the title company calls with a problem with the title, OMG could anything else possibly go wrong and then the phone rings and it is an upset seller wanting to cancel their listing.  We go home thinking the market sucks and why put up with all of these … (50 comments)

Is Humor really relevant?
There are those that believe that humor is a panacea for life's ills.  Then there are those that would say that it is just good to have a good belly laugh every now and then.  Personally, I would rather have a smile on my face as opposed to wearing a frown and adding another wrinkle to my brow.  And trust me I have been known to stir up stuff in the office to lighten the mood of the day.  One of the worlds most noted writers had this to say about humor.  So how do you feel … (44 comments)

Moving into 2009 and some random thought on Failure and Attitude...
We have all listened to a lot of negative this year and probably been in on some pretty negative conversations around the water cooler or with our clients.  This has not been an easy year for a lot of us in real estate for one reason or another.  So, what are we going to do in 2009 that is different than 2008?
We can do the negative self talk and eventually start to believe it or we can change the way we are looking at things and do something about … (28 comments)

Holy Mess Batman No Wonder I Feel So Down!!
I recently read a blog written by Ali Hale entitled 10 Ways To Create A Work Environment That Drags You Down.  In it she talks about those things that will bring me down at the office, so now I will be spending my time working on creating a positive work environment for myself.  Who knows those around me may benefit from my new space too.
So what will be the steps that I will be taking to improve?  I thought that if Ali had 10 tips maybe I should do the same.

attitude: What an interesting comment! "NUTS!" - 09/30/08 05:41 PM
What an interesting comment!
When he found himself surrounded by the Germans in WWII in the town of Bayonne, General MacAuliffe when he was asked to surrender by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge replied "NUTS" in the face of being wiped out.  What an attitude, in the face of certain defeat, Gen. MacAuliffe was not going to just surrender and give up without a fight.  He and his men had not come all this way to just lay down and become a door mat.  He and his men were on a mission and there was not one ounce … (31 comments)

So how's the ‘tude dude or dudette?
I have compiled some very interesting quotes on the subject of attitude and thought that I would share them with you.
•1.      A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.  Herm Albright
•2.      I happen to feel that the degree of a person's intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting attitudes she can bring to bear on the same topic.  Lisa Alther
•3.      I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for … (18 comments)

Is That The Real You I Am Looking At? Or is it someone else?
In July Gary Woltal wrote a blog post titled A Clown Has Many Masks.  I found this to be a very interesting topic because I used to clown with my dad and his clown troupe back in the day.  Even though it was short lived but that is another post.  Let me get to my point.
On Tuesday night I witnessed a real example of people that wear masks and so did you if you watched The Biggest Loser show.  Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels went out and … (32 comments)

WHAT A WAY TO START A PHONE CONVERSATION...
You don't know me but, we talked about a month ago in your office when I was complaining about the service that I did not receive from another agent in your office.  Remember they stood me up and I am a very busy person and you seemed to be such a nice person.  Oh, by the way, I thought that real estate agents were always in the office working.  When can I sit down and talk to you about my needs?
Me, Yes ma'am I do remember you and thank you for remembering … (24 comments)

Are You Believin'........
Sunday night was the last night for the 2008 Olympics and now we are on to something else.  With the last beat of the drums, the last song sang, the Olympic flag was passed off to London and all of the athletes have been able to take their last bow.  It was a great time and one very good venue.
There were lessons that were learned by everyone and they were posted here by several very good writers.  With that being said I would like to leave the Olympic theme with this last thought.  All of the athletes … (32 comments)

Yesterdays' Peacock..........
As last years' president of the St. Charles County Association of Realtors® I found myself in the public eye and always being in front of the Association members.  Answering daily the questions and concerns that the public had; listening to the needs of the members, attending events and representing the association as well as my company.  I was known by everyone, well almost everyone my wife had to make an appointment with me just so we could have dinner together at times.  There were a couple of times when I came home I wasn't sure I was in the … (12 comments)

Have you ever had a dream?
Ever have a BAD DAY?  Ever been told that you can't do something by more than one person?  We all have at one time or another, right?  Have you ever heard of Daniel Ruettiger?  Here is a young man that was told constantly that his dream would never come true.  He had a very simple dream and that was to play football for coach Ara Paraseghian and Notre Dame.  He played football in High School and was a team leader.  But, he was always too small to make the team of his dreams.
Once he … (16 comments)

What pulls at your Heart?
There are a couple of things that pull at the strings of my heart!  I bet that you would never hear a man say something on this line, huh?  Well you have now I have to go and explain myself.  So for the purpose of this writing I will only focus on one of the few things that tug at my heart.
I was watching Tuesday nights' edition of Americas' Got Talent.  Ok, I have watched just about all of this year's offerings so far.  I have a soft spot for folks that make it and … (10 comments)

What a wonderful client.....
Really, I have had good clients in the past and I am sure that I will have even more in the future.  I have had some less than good clients, too but not as many.  Then I have had some really, really GREAT clients but, not as many as the good.
So what make a good client?

attitude: Why Just One Month Out Of The Year..... Part 2 - 06/29/08 08:13 AM
Why Just One Month Out Of The Year
Let me start by re-stating my thank you to the National Association of REALTORS® for naming September REALTOR® Safety Awareness Month but, why only one month out of the year?  As I said in part 1 of this series, things like assaults, robbery, theft and murder don't take a holiday they are happening everyday of the year.  REALTORS® are very vulnerable to any or all of these types of crimes.  Why?  Because when you work at developing a relationship and are friendly by nature you will be vulnerable for such things.  Our managing … (13 comments)

No, this isn't a unique mailbox!
This is a picture of a rock that I have driven by numerous times when visiting my son at Ft. Leonard Wood.  Today while I was heading to our MAR Quarterly meeting I decided to stop and take a picture of this unique stone formation.  This formation can be found on Old Hwy. 66 just north of Waynesville, MO.

Why would I even think about writing about rocks or frogs for that matter?  There are times that we as real estate agents are very stubborn.  We keep doing the same thing year after year … (22 comments)

attitude: Do you Hustle? - 06/21/08 09:55 AM
Every morning I read some wonderful thoughts from some well known people both past and present.  This morning I came across this quote form Abraham Lincoln and thought that it would be good to share with my friends here on Active Rain.
"Things may come to those who wait but, only the things left by those who hustle."
Abraham Lincoln
As I read it I began to think about several different aspects of the real estate business.
There are those that believe that "Good things come to those that wait". And wait, and wait, and wait, and wait.  Well tomorrow will … (16 comments)
