Today is the first day of summer for the school kids in Seminole County, FL and my son was awake at 6:30 this morning. 6:30!!! Seriously?!? I certainly hope this is not a glimpse of things to come otherwise it's going to be a LONG summer.

I was driving my daughter and 4 of her closest friends home from a water park where they celebrated her 16th birthday. It was late and after a long day of swimming and riding water rides, I would have thought they'd be tired but, alas, they were teenagers and still full of energy, laughing and planning what they were going to do over the summer. Yes, all schools are experiencing cut backs and Florida's are no exception but here in Seminole County, schools are becoming creative in how they're cutting budgets in order to keep their exceptional reputation as one of the best school systems in Florida!

Summer's right around the corner and you know what that means... kids at home. I, personally, like it when the kids are home. I don't have every minute of the day planned. We can stay up late because I don't have to get my high schooler up at 5:30am. I don't have to schedule appointments according to when I'll be dropping off or picking up my kids from school. I just drove through a neighborhood in Oviedo named Live Oak Reserve. What a beautiful area! From the beautiful water fountain at the entrance to the shade covered park toward the rear, this development leaves nothing to be desired. We here in Florida are not only blessed with this beautiful weather, it's in the 80's again today, entertainment, world class higher education and our ever growing medical industry, but science and technology surround us regardless of where you live. A perfect example of this was the space shuttle launch last night. It was definitely something to behold even if you're not a space enthusiast.
