Kermit the Frog once said, "It's not easy being green."  However, he got used to it.  What choice did he have?
Modern Americans could say the same thing.  Currently, Western-world lifestyles consume a disproportionate amount of natural resources; thinking "green" requires people to rethink what they use in living their daily lives and then to embrace a more energy-efficient way of life.  With prices to heat and cool our homes rising, with resources being deleted at a rapid rate as more people world-wide claim their rights to consume, what choice do we have other than to choose to become more "green?"

Carrots and Sticks Disclosed - 02/20/09 12:58 PM
A few weeks ago on this blog, we talked about how a successful housing program would have to contain "carrots" and "sticks."  Now that President Obama has presented his housing proposal, we see a variety of incentives and directives - the carrots and the sticks - laid out before us. His $275 plan, with 75 million coming from taxpayers and the balance in government commitments to back Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, aims to help 9 million troubled homeowners, while absorbing some of the financial impact to both lenders and mortgage holders and promoting new homeownership.

Though the $15,000 home buyers credit reported here recently did not survive in the final version of the stimulus bill, an $8,000 credit did make it through.  WATCH FOR DETAILS.
The Obama administration is about ready to unveil a plan that will help homeowners before they become delinquent on their loans.  Under the plan, sources said homes would undergo a standardized reappraisal and homeowners would face a uniform eligibility test.  Currently, only loans that are over 38% of the household income are eligible for modification.  The plan would contain a mix of "carrots and sticks" for mortgage companies.  WATCH FOR DETAILS

Proposed Homeowners Tax Credit - Not Just a Loan This Time - 02/11/09 10:01 AM
This week, Congress is hammering out the details of the massive economic stimulus bill that President Obama and virtually every American believes is necessary to save the economy.  Needless to say, there is controversy as to what should be included in the final bill but one measure that will undoubtedly see the light of day is the$15,000 tax credit for homebuyers.  Unlike the $7,500 tax credit passed last year, this proposal would actual offer buyers a real credit, not a loan to be paid back over time.

The average home in America is approximately 2,521 square feet, about 150% the size of the average home in 1977 which was  1,720 square feet. Though recent economic trends may lead to smaller homes in the future, the stereotypical family of two adults and two children (rounded up from the partial children statisticians account for) has enjoyed an increasing amount of space for themselves and their "stuff."
