WHO IS OUT THERE BUYING HOMES AND WHERE ARE THEY LOOKING? - 11/26/08 12:52 PM
Would it surprise you to know? 61% of home buyers are married couples? 20% are single women? 10% are single men? 7% are unmarried couples? The National Association of Realtors surveys home buyers & sellers annually to gather detailed information about the home buying & selling process. This information came from their latest survey. First time home buyers accounted for a larger market share of home purchases compared to the last 5 surveys. From July 2007 to June 2008 the survey showed it was the highest precentage of first-time buyers since 2001. More than three-quarters of all home buyers purchased detached (1 comments)
FINANCIAL PLANNING DREAM>PLAN>TRACK - 11/26/08 11:31 AM
7 years ago my son-in-law was singing praises to my husband and me about their Financial Advisor. I read a book about "raving fans" and thought this is what they are referring to: someone who does such a good job their clients are always talking about them! We gave her a call for an interview and immediately felt like she was asking us the right questions to craft a plan just for us to make sure we could achieve our goals for financial independence when we retire. By working together we have been building our portfolio. Consistent tracking and revisions have (0 comments)
SHOPPERS BEWARE - UNSAFE TOYS BEING SOLD - 11/26/08 10:25 AM
Please check the Public Interest Research Group's (known as PIRG) 23rd Annual Toy Story Safety Report at http://www.uspirg.org/ before shopping for children this year for Christmas. Every year PIRG publishes a report to show their findings. This year PIRG has discovered many toys are still on the shelves that contain lead and phthalates which can cause birth defects. In February 2009 these toys will be deemed illegal as of a new bill signed into law. Unfortunately the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has allowed these toys to remain on the shelves until sold out and you don't want to be the (0 comments)
CUT FINANCE CHARGES - RAISE CREDIT SCORES - 11/25/08 04:13 PM
Consumers who increase their credit score by 30 points save an average of $105 per year in finance charges on consumer loans according to a recent survey taken in part by the Consumer Federation of America. There are several factors related to raising your credit score: Pay bills consistently on time each month Pay off debt do not open accounts for brief periods of time (moving debt around) Do not charge the maximum or close to maximum ceiling on your card Consistently check your credit report for errors Don't forget you are entitled to one free credit report per year from each (0 comments)
GIFT-BUYERS BEWARE - RETURNS AND CREDIT - NOT! - 11/25/08 12:37 PM
This year with less money available for families to spend, be aware of special return restrictions on electronic or seasonal items. Stores have severely tightened their return policies in general, thus making it harder to indulge on items and then expect to be able to return the items with no consequences! Check out a store's return policy. Stores are monitoring how often returns are made and if you exceed the store's established limit you will be unable to make a return even with a receipt. If you are denied ask for the store manager. Many can override the store's policies. Also (0 comments)
BOYHOOD MEMORIES - A LESSON IN LOVE - THE CHRISTMAS SWEATER - 11/25/08 12:02 PM
I just finished the most wonderful story that touched my heart beyond words while waiting in the hospital with my husband Gene. Many of us have said or done something to somone we love and always regretted we could not take it back. Life was never the same after that mistake. This holiday message helps us answer the question "Do we know what is important in our lives?" This poignant story helps us understand the sooner in life we learn the answer to this question the better the quality of our life will be for the time we have left. Please (0 comments)
PLEASE STAY OFF THE TRACKS! - AUSTIN, TEXAS - HIGH SPEED TRAINS - 11/24/08 03:58 PM
Capital MetroRail is now testing their new high speed with passenger service for Central Texas to start hopefully soon. Freight trains run much slower, nosier, and not as often as the new high speed. Please watch out as these sleeker, faster trains travel through your neighborhoods and past your schools. When driving and approaching the tracks please take caution and don't ever stop your car on the tracks when stopped at a red light near the train tracks. Be especially careful turning across the train tracks. Please do not drive around the crossing gates. Don't walk or play on the tracks. (1 comments)

AUSTIN,TEXAS - BCCP - MANAGING WILDLANDS - WESTERN TRAVIS COUNTY - 11/21/08 03:23 PM
Austin created a unique regional partnership working towards the survival of protected species. In 1996 a preserve system was approved to protect a total of 30,428 acres in western Travis County in Austin, Texas of species and their habitats. A conflict in the late 1980's and early 1990's between land development and environmental protection resulted in the community-based effort to develop a habitat conservation plan, the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan (BCCP). The BCCP is a system of preserve lands set aside to conserve essential and rapidly disappearing habitat. It offers sanctuary to a wide array of native plants and animals unable (0 comments)

Friday, November 14, 2008 a decision was issued by the Third Court of Appeals in a suit filed by the Canyon Creek MUD against the City of Austin. The court sided with the arguments of the Canyon Creek MUD and found that the Agreement entered into between the City of Austin and the Canyon Creek MUD was subjected to the provisions of the Texas State Water code. A key provision in the statute is to ensure taxpayers who receive water-related services from more than one taxing authority, do not pay more in tax to the combined entities than they would pay (0 comments)
NW AUSTIN - CANYON CREEK - 78726 - GOOD PRESERVE-SIDE NEIGHBORS - 11/18/08 12:10 PM
Canyon Creek tries to be a good preserve-side neighborhood. This community is located off Hwy 620 between Hwy 2222 and Anderson Mill Road. The residents enjoy a 57 acre City of Austin Park - Trail Head Park and their own Canyon Creek Park. Many sought after streets in the community are surrounded by preserve areas. The community understands living next to, or near a preserve provides many benefits: natural beauty, interesting wildlife & quiet neighbors! AUSTIN TEXAS CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSING "ANTIQUATED PARKING METERS" AND INSTALLING KIOSKS TO PAY FOR PARKING - 11/17/08 04:44 PM
Current parking meters servicing Austin are old and in a constant state of repairs. Patrons get annoyed when meters won't accept money, can't get them to work so park anyway and get a ticket! Then the ticket holders bombard the city and cry foul! All this leads to loss revenue and the loss of productive time for their employees. The city is currently discussing installing Kiosks located at various points where you would run and pay for a pass to put on your dashboard showing you are legally parked! There might be flat fees initiated (which means an increase in parking rates). (1 comments)
