Thankful Thursdays ~ An Ice Cream Social - 09/30/10 06:43 PM
Most office buildings have fire drills; ours have an ice cream social! CBRE are the best landlords! Like any building fire drills are necessary but when we need to participate they provide us with Amy's Ice Cream...a local ice cream that is the best! Our office building in Austin, Texas is located at the Arboretum in Plaza One. There are two buildings and they served us all this gorgeous fall day! (20 comments)

(Not so) Wordless Wednesday ~ Jerusalem Marketplace (Shuk) - 09/29/10 07:06 PM
I've read about the Jerusalem Marketplace so was anxious when we were travling in Jerusalem this summer to make sure we saw the most famous shuk of all called Mahne Yehudah. It is located between Jaffa and Agrippas only a few hundred yards from the city center. Almost all the stalls in the shuk sell fruits and vegetables. There are also butchers, bakers, nut and grain sellers, cheese and dairy shops, spice merchants and fast food vendors. What we found so exciting was the wildly fluctuating prices which our guide told us depended on the time of the day and (9 comments)
It's Not All About You!! - 09/27/10 10:55 PM
It's not all about you... When showcasing your listings, is the advertising all about you? Sellers want their property presented in its very best light. They want flattering sharp clear pictures (as they should) and copy that spells out what their home has to offer. I ask my sellers to give me a list of "The Top Ten Features of Their Home." Not only does it help me in creating advertising pieces it often pinpoints what makes their home unique. They really don't want the majority of their advertising to be all about you or your other listings! Buyers want to (26 comments)
Ever Wonder WHY? There are some who come up with questions that leave you scratching your head and you can't help but snicker. I thought it'd be fun to start out the week on a lighter note: WHY the man who invests all your money is called a broker? WHY the time of day with the slowest traffic is called rush hour?
WHY is "abbreviated" such a long word? WHY do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters? WHY do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our (14 comments)
It's Nice To Know Your Efforts Are Appreciated - 09/26/10 07:54 AM
It's nice to know your efforts are appreciated...Recently I received a nice letter from some wonderful clients I worked with last spring. Reference letters are valued as most of my sellers move out of state. A letter can be included in my marketing materials for future clients to review so they can read what past clients have to say concerning their experience in working with me. It's always nice to feel appreciated:

Hook..Line and Sinker ~ Seafood Restaurant ~ Dallas, TX - 09/25/10 05:47 PM
While in Dallas this week making appointments at Baylor Hospital we drove by a bustling restaurant in Uptown that caught our eye. It looked like a place we would see in Austin. Casual, eclectic and full of people! There were rusted boat motors hanging on the railings of the decks with colored lights hanging from this shack-like eatery! We googled it when we got back to the hotel and thought this might be a fun place to check out...the reviews were great! We were not disappointed!"Hook, Line and Sinker ~ Dallas, TX"Create a free slideshow with Picnik! The owner was friendly (14 comments)

In the last few years his latest foray into stumping the doctors is his blood count plummeting into dangerous levels thus causing panic as to where is he losing blood and why!! Motivational Monday - 09/20/10 06:43 AM
As I drive to work I pass by the Unity Church of the Hills on Anderson Mill Rd. in Austin, Texas. I always love to read their electronic message board with their thought of the week. Their message this past week was: "Appreciation can make a day, even change a life" The message reminded me of a post Pat Kennedy created last week: Making Her Day. Both messages drive home how important it is to be compassionate, caring and appreciative to those around you. You can make a difference and as Pat said.."it doesn't take much!"

I'm of course a little prejudiced because my oldest granddaughter, Hailey, as a freshman made the Varsity team and is #15! Tuesday night, I was able to make their home game against Westlake! Marketing Should Equal Name Recognition - 09/17/10 08:56 PM
There is room for all types of personalities in the real estate profession! Some agents are fun loving and appeal to a certain sector of buyers. Others are more serious by nature and appeal to another sector. Some agents are chameleons and can appeal to most all sectors. We want to make sure the way in which we market ourselves results in name recognition. Are you thinking outside the box and creating marketing that sets you apart from your colleagues? Several years ago our two granddaughters were in their Aunt's wedding in Dallas. They were all dressed in their bridesmaids dresses, hair curled, head pieces arranged just so, light make-up on and ready for the special event. As the time drew closer they found a seat to share, listened to the soloist's final rehearsal and silently absorbed the electricity in the air! Anticipation...a wonderful thing. (26 comments)

Keep Your Eye On The Ball - 09/14/10 07:10 AM
Many agents feel like they are being swept away in a sea of paperwork and details in order to make a transaction come together. It's true there is more red tape to wade through than ever before. The bad news is the red tape is not going away any time soon and may get worse. The good news is you can be proactive and create systems to manage the volume of "documents" (knowing you will be making many revisions). It might even mean hiring an assistant. You will need to hone your communication skills and jump in feet first if you (20 comments)

Grandparents Day 2010: September 12 - 09/12/10 08:13 AM
"Happy Grandparents Day" to all of you grandparents out there! Did you know in 1978 President Jimmy Carter signed the first President Proclamation designating the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day! The first official observance was September 9, 1979. It has been celebrated every year since then honoring our nation's grandparents. According to the Census Bureau grandparents play an important role in our lives. Did you know 9% of children in 2009 were living with a grandparent? 30% of younger children under five whose mothers worked outside the home, were cared for by a grandparent during their mothers (18 comments)

English Is Crazy - 09/10/10 06:23 AM
Many talk about learning foreign languages and which ones make sense to invest you time and hard work. Some feel Latin is the most valuable because it forces us to dissect words and understand parts of the whole. Others feel Italian is the language to learn while others expound on how romantic the French language is! Many feel if you learn Spanish you can catch on to Italian! But many feel English is very hard to learn because of all our double meanings. Is English really crazy? Susan Capps has come up with a list that does make us stop and (16 comments)

On my post concerning agents using MLS attachments, Joni Staples made a comment about her goal to make it so easy for agents to work with her, that agents looked forward to selling her properties! This is a gal after my own heart. We think alike! You know the feeling when you are showing property and your buyers like a home listed by the agent you can never reach, never has seller's disclosures completed by the seller, no survey, generally knows nothing about the property and can never find time to present an offer! In Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas according to the Better Business Bureau there is an 11% increase in complaints compared to 2009. Fraud targeting senior citizens and their caregivers is a growing concern.

While traveling in Egypt our guide suggested we stop at Mena House for lunch. The Mena House Oberoi is set in 40 acres of jasmine-scented gardens with the Pyramids towering above. It was originally a royal lodge used by Khedive Ismail, the King of Egypt, as a house for himself and his guests while on hunting trips in the desert of during visits to the Pyramids of Giza. With the opening of the Suez Canal, he enlarged the guesthouse to receive international and royal guests visiting the Pyramids. Empress Eugenie was one of them as was Albert, Prince of Wales. Are You Utilizing Your Attachment Capability in MLS? - 09/07/10 12:16 PM
We are so fortunate in Austin to have the capability of utilizing an Attachment Feature in our MLS system. I love it!! You can upload the seller's disclosure, survey, floor plan, septic addendum, any relocation addendum, brochures, virtual tours...the list is endless! What I don't understand is why agents aren't utilizing this feature! I've been showing a great deal of property lately and am amazed at the number of agents who do not provide information we could easily print off for our buyers when showing their listings. Are agents just lazy or do they not know how to upload vital information (23 comments)
