active rain challenge: Zooming In: The Heartbeat of ActiveRain Community - 03/19/24 07:46 PM
Thank you Kat Palmiotti and Ellen Burns for Hosting the March 2024 Active Rain Zoom Challenge!
Attending our weekly Zoom meetings on Active Rain has become a cornerstone of my schedule over the past four years. While there are occasional conflicts, prioritizing these meetings is akin to how we schedule around important client engagements.
The week before session with Brad Andersohn was particularly nostalgic, as he reminded us of the unparalleled value and opportunities ActiveRain offers in the real estate industry. His statements: “There is no website, platform, social media app, or space quite like ActiveRain. More value and opportunity than any other … (21 comments)

active rain challenge: October Challenge ~ Some of The Stars of Active Rain - 10/15/23 12:34 PM
I want to extend my gratitude to Leanne Smith and Endre Barath, Jr. for hosting this October challenge. Our mission is to share valuable insights or strategies that have benefited our business or our blogging journey here on Active Rain. As I contemplated my entry for the October challenge, I found myself faced with a delightful dilemma. My bag of tricks is brimming with numerous treats, making the selection of just two quite the challenge. After careful consideration, I've settled on the following:
This is my entry in the October Challenge hosted by Leanne Smith and Endre Barath, Jr.

active rain challenge: Become the Gate Keeper of Your Local Information Highway - 01/06/23 03:11 PM
If you listen to the media, 2023 is going to be a ruthless year in the housing market. We all know real estate is local so it’s our job to interpret the statistics in our local market. We are not just a sales person. We are educators, now more than ever. Knowledge is power!
I’m already hearing of realtors, real estate agents, brokers, lenders, processors discussing their need to find other employment.
This fear is real for many but I always remember what Warren Buffett says: “Be greedy when others are fearful.” I’m not saying you need to be greedy but why panic? … (56 comments)

active rain challenge: Bloggers STOP!! Think Before You Add a Post! - 12/19/22 08:57 AM
Sometimes we over-think writing a post and sometimes we start a post when we are “hot “over a topic or something someone said! STOP! It’s not the time to vent or rant and rave. Remember our sphere and clients are reading what we write. Two things I strongly feel are “No No’s when blogging:
u Venting and being negative – no one likes to hear negativity (we hear enough in the press). Who wants to read a post from a Debe Downer? We are better than that and are readers certainly deserve better!
u Don’t be a “geyser of gibberish.” Produce something of … (65 comments)

active rain challenge: Recognize This Face? - 12/09/22 01:58 PM
No it’s not a face on a wanted list but is a face easily recognized by most of my community because of my blogging.
As a Realtor I added blogging to my tool box in 2008 when the mortgage crisis hit. Real estate pretty much slowed to a trickle but I knew it wouldn’t last forever. The opportunity to devote and develop another avenue for name recognition in my community presented itself and I took it! I trained my community to go to my website to read my blog for market updates and community events. It took lots of print media and … (58 comments)

active rain challenge: Surprise!! ~ Crazy Real Estate Agent Stories - 09/16/22 04:50 PM
Thank you to Eileen Burns  and Kathy Streib for hosting this September challenge! As agents we have enough stories to write a book….wouldn’t it be fun to collaborate and put them all together in one book? If you haven't read any of the entries yet - be sure you do.
My license became active in 1991and I hit the ground running as a single mom. I pressed the restart button and here I am 31 years later still having fun! It’s a beautiful thing when your career and a passion come together!

active rain challenge: My Fish Story ~ Game on - 08/05/22 07:45 AM
January of 2022 my son/his family and I made a decision we were going to reconnect with a dear friend of mine, who was a huge part of my son and daughter’s life growing up; we always referred to her as their God Mother.
Vicki and I met when our husbands were flying in the Navy, in Beeville TX and in the same squadron. My daughter was born there so Vicki has known her since she was 6 months old. Vicki is from Montana and grew up on a 40,000 acre ranch along the Canadian border by Glacier Park. They rented lake … (44 comments)

It was so hard to decide but I made my decision and now on to the second challenge in the Point Store July Challenge! I’ve come up with an exciting quest I can offer you in Austin Texas.

active rain challenge: From Coast to Coast 'Ole Glory" is Proudly Waving - 06/01/22 10:38 AM
Thank you Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho and Endre Barath, Jr. for hosting the June Active Rain challenge "Ole Glory coast to coast" What a great idea! I’m having fun reading posts from across the country and now visual all the flags waving!
I never thought about it but June is bookended with two very patriotic Holidays:  Memorial Day and July 4th, with Flag Day being in the middle, on June 14th.
My header is a photo of a flag from neighbors, who are also friends, just down the street. I always marvel at how they make sure to decorate and display their patriotism … (10 comments)

active rain challenge: Active Rain Helped Me Find My Blogging Voice ~ April 2022 Challenge - 04/16/22 07:02 PM
Thank you, Debe Maxwell, CRS and Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 for this April 2022 Challenge. Looking back since I started posting in October of 2008 was eye opening! I was determined to find the rain camp I attended in Houston and went back through the years and found it: it was December 6th 2010.
For me meeting Bob Stewart, Kerry Greenhalgh, Jason Crouch, Joni Bailey,  Loreena and Michael Yeo, Marylyn Boudreaux and others was a game changer!  Ben Kinney spoke and I won a Kindle in a drawing!
I remember well a post Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 posted in April 2012 and she stated "I don't … (29 comments)

active rain challenge: Tuesday's Treasures ~ ZOOMING in Active Rain - 09/24/21 07:22 PM
I love attending the Tuesday Zoom meetings here in Active Rain! There is so much talent and inspiration in our membership. These meetings are a great way to get to know each other better. Appreciating the time and effort of those who attend and keep the meetings going is important to the overall validity of our website. “Seeing” everyone virtually isn’t like meeting them in person but a close second.
There are many ongoing changes to bring our AR platform up-to-date. These modifications are essential and we need to understand the “why, “what” and “how” it takes to rebuild our website. We … (12 comments)

active rain challenge: Sharing The Love ~ Start 2021 By Filling The Bucket - 02/27/21 04:59 PM
Starting 2021 with "Sharing The Love" challenge offers lots of options. I’m writing my third post for the February Challenge hosted by Rocky Dickerson and Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist, utilizing Rocky’s “Bucket Filling” idea. I love the tradition he continues from his former office in San Diego. Closing their meeting with bucket time is ingenious. Complimenting or acknowledging someone in the office is what helps fosters a culture of awesomeness. He is right you never know how that positive thought may make someone’s week go entirely different.
Trying to decide on 7 Active Rain members I admire is difficult because … (21 comments)

active rain challenge: Working Smarter Not Harder ~ Consistent Branding - 01/20/20 07:52 AM
I’ve been reading many of the entries for January 2020 ActiveRain challenge hosted by Endre Barath, Jr.  What Changes Did You Make Last Year Or The Year Before That Worked?, and am inspired by many of the posts. It’s always good to read what goals and changes agents make and how they implement them.
Usually my goals for the next year are written with implementation in the beginning of the fourth quarter. For the past two years my world has been turned upside down with my Geno’s illness, many trips to the hospitals and finally the acquiescence to Hospice at home and my Geno’s … (44 comments)

active rain challenge: My Best Farming technique to reach my tribe ~ Clients For Life Program - 06/18/18 02:51 PM
There are many tried and true methods of building a real estate business. Even with all the changes in real estate and technology there are plenty of ways to obtain the eyes and ears of buyers and sellers.
We all have the same opportunity to build our business but first we need to understand we own a business, formulate how it’s going to run, who are we going to serve and how to reach the intended target.
I firmly believe this is a relationship business and I want to work with those that value my expertise and experience. I started farming 22 years ago in the … (34 comments)

active rain challenge: Thankful for my clients ~ Number 9 Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/22/16 02:50 AM
The Active Rain contest sponsored by  Debbie Reynolds (the real Debbie Reynolds) is one of the most fun challenges! It is the time of year to reflect on our many blessings. Sometimes we forget to acknowledge our family, friends, clients, colleagues, opportunities and natural wonders that affect our well being. It’s all about the journey in this life and we often take it for granted.
I’m blessed with the opportunity to work with so many truly wonderful clients that value what I do and aren’t afraid to tell me or refer me to their family and friends. This validation is important to … (25 comments)

active rain challenge: Thankful “You Have a Friend in Me”~ No. 8 in Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/22/16 02:21 AM
Geno and I love to travel and one of the most memorable trips we’ve taken was with our traveling buddies, Gene’s brother and wife to Antarctica. Spending time with the penguins, sighting them on icebergs…..so many wonderful memories all wrapped up in a memorable video:

The time came to go and I have to admit we were not ready to leave and still remain thankful for the time spent exploring and remembering “You have a Friend in Me.”

active rain challenge: Pay it Forward~Ongoing Fight For Cancer~NW Coldwell Banker Austin TX - 11/22/16 01:10 AM
It is the season for being thankful and giving to others tops many of our lists. There are so many things you can do to participate in the giving to others. There are small things that can you do every day, there are charities to donate monetarily to and charities to donate your time and efforts to make a successful event. I appreciate Belinda Spillman for offering a contest here in Active Rain to highlight what is being done across the country to Pay It Forward. I have been getting some new ideas for next year.
Our NW Coldwell Banker Office participates … (18 comments)

active rain challenge: Change, Gratitude and Joy~Number 10 in the Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/21/16 06:52 AM
Today is Thanksgiving and I am thankful for what I have and I’m feeling very blessed. Each year has grown better than the last.

William Arthur Ward summed up my feelings perfectly:
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”

This year as you're enjoying the sights, sounds and aromas of Thanksgiving, please know I'm deeply thankful for the traditions we continue to share. I'm wishing you, your family and friends many blessings on the Thanksgiving Day!

active rain challenge: Thankful for my Administrative Assistant- No. 7 Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/21/16 01:35 AM
Many agents hire Administrative Assistants and find they don’t work out for one reason or another. I feel many hire an agent who wants you to mentor them and as soon as they feel they can go it alone they leave! Don’t get me wrong I believe in mentoring. I want to give back because I was lucky to experience some phenomenal mentoring from agents when I first started. I just don’t want them on my payroll.
As independent contractors we own our own business and decide how we want to run it. I love that! I don’t want to be … (12 comments)

active rain challenge: Thankful for date time w/Geno~Number 6 in the Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/21/16 01:12 AM
I look forward to time alone with my Geno and a good way for us to make sure we have quality time is to schedule date night each week. I treat it like an appointment, it is on my calendar and appointments are worked around it.
It’s important to make time to enjoy each other’s company and make sure we are both on the same wave length with how our life is unfolding together. We love spending time with our children and grandchildren and have a hectic life style with me working as a Realtor®. There are texts, phone calls and clients … (10 comments)
