Swimming is a sport started at an early age in Austin. A role model of the top Long Horn Swim Team doesn't hurt to get a youngster interested.
There are many summer league programs to join which gets kids up and active racing to swim practice during the week (yes, that means rolling out of bed early during summer vacation) and competing with their team on weekends at swim meets. It is a family affair as it takes the effort of parents to organize age groups, sell food at the concession stands, time the races and so much more.

Look out Austin, it's that time of year again ~ the biggest Motorcycle Rally in Texas is descending on the streets of Austin! It's called the ROT Rally (Republic of Texas) and this is the 16th annual event. Surely you noticed all the choppers on the roads as of yesterday, June 10th. The rocking, jostling, loud (did I say loud) party of all parties will continue through June 13th. Participants of the ROT Rally must be 18years or older.

I don't know about you but as a child I remember the excitement of going to summer camp. Our grandson, Trey, is making memories at Camp Longhorn for 2 weeks this summer. We are emailing him through a website they have established and they print out our notes to him and deliver them daily (sure beats sending letters and cards)! It is a co-ed residential summer camp that lies in the scenic Texas Hill country, 60 miles northwest of Austin.

Canyon Creek, a premier NW Austin master planned community is exhibiting the same numbers in sales for May 2010 as in May 2009. It appears buyers are choosing smaller square foot homes in 2010 as the average square footage is down 14.26%. The average sold price is down 13.84%, however the average sold price per square foot is up 1.35% with the days on market up 5.3%.
With the removal on February 4th of the NW MUD #1, the residents are enjoying a lower property tax rate.

Our granddaughter, Hailey, is one of the sweetest, even tempered and naturally lovely young teenagers! Now I know we are prejudiced because she is our first grandchild. We are privileged to be a part of her life and have been since she was born in Austin, Texas 14 years ago.

There used to be a dry cleaning store next to the gas station at the entrance to Canyon Creek on Boulder Blvd off Hwy 620 betwwen Hwy 2222 and Anderson Mill Rd. It wasn't open long and the space remained vacant since they closed their doors.
I noticed a new sign is up! I peeked in the windows and it looks like chairs and tables are in and a menu is posted on the door. It shouldn't be long now before they open their doors for business.

It's that time of year again and the Domain is sponsoring a unique celebration for Memorial Weekend! Starting May 29-31 the Wine & Music event will be featuring local wineries, breweries, over 15 rockin' musicians and bands, artisans, vendors and of course all the people!
The festival is donating a portion of their proceeds to local Texas based and Texas supporting groups.
Again this year, they wiill be supporting Sustainable Food Center and in honor of all the service men and women, they will be supporting Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation.

In Canyon Creek, a prestigious NW Austin Master planned community, the residents are still on the path of "native is in"! On April 11th the second annual native plant distribution was held in Trailhead Park.
The City of Austin-Wildlife Conservation Division sent volunteers to answer questions and provide recommendations on which native species available that day would be best to meet landscaping needs.Many Canyon Creek residents took full advantage of this opportunity.

"The Mad Hatters" had another year of fun and comradeship participating in the American Cancer Society "Relay For Life" event this past Friday night. This is our second year to enter and raise money for our common goal to beat cancer!
We all have experienced the loss of family, friends and colleagues through this disastrous disease that never sleeps!
Our goal was to raise $2,000. We exceeded our goal reaching $2,735!
