In 2010, Geno and our traveling buddies visited Cairo and made it to the Old Grand Bazaar (Khan el-Khalili). They are noted for selling clothing, cloth, spices, souvenirs and traditional jewelry and perfumes at reasonable prices. The experience is quite something with all the sights, sounds of music and smells. The Arabic coffee houses, restaurants and street food vendors are tightly packed throughout the market. Our guide made sure we experienced the local fare at a lovely local restaurant on the way to the Alabaster Mosque. In 2010 we made a trip to Egypt, Jordan and Israel (good thing we traveled when we did). After touring the Pyramids in 122 degrees we chilled at lunch enjoying the ambiance of one of the most unique hotels in Cairo, the Mena House Oberoi. This palatial hotel is surrounded by lushly landscaped gardens and is just a sand dune away from the Great Pyramids of Giza. Mena House is rich in history, playing host to kings and emperors, heads of state and celebrities.
