pay it forward: NW Austin ~ Canyon Creek Elementary Pay It Forward Week - 02/07/12 05:57 PM
NW Austin ~ Canyon Creek Elementary "Pay It Forward" Week I love the concept of "Pay It Forward" which is the philosophy of doing a good deed for someone else in hopes that the receiver will one day do a good deed for someone else. Canyon Creek Elementary is dedicating a week February 27 - March 2nd, 2012 as "Pay It Forward" Week!  Students, teachers and staff working together will pay it forward this year by assembling 50 take home bags for the parents of children that are born premature.  They will be donating these bags to "A Hand to Hold … (20 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward ~ Recognize Teenagers Making a Difference - 07/22/11 05:27 PM
Pay It Forward ~ Recognize Teenagers Making a DifferenceWe always hear the negative antics of teengers but it's good to recognize those teens who want to make a difference in their communities!  This week I tried to get the word out through my blog on Canyon Creek Tennis Camp about 4 young teens who have organized a four day tennis camp for youngsters from ages 6-12. Their $25 fee is going to the American Cancer Society! These are the leaders of tomorrow and I for one want to say thank you for making a difference!

pay it forward: Pay It Forward - Danger ~ Danger ~ Fire - 07/13/11 08:22 AM
We all hear or read stories of families whose home caught on fire but thank goodness rarely do we actually encounter this experience.  Last week a gal in one of our local title companies got a call at work from her husband that her house was on fire!  I'm talking about totally engulfed in flames from an electrical panel in the garage.Thank goodness no pets, children or anyone was hurt.  Her husband escaped but everything is gone!  It's heartwarming to see the outpouring of generosity to her and her husband...clothes...a place to live and so many donations!  I couldn't wait to … (26 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward ~ Help Support Business in Your Community - 07/08/11 06:26 AM
Pay It Forward ~ Help Support Business in your communityI read the post from Katerina and Nestor yesterday morning on "Radically Change Your Community."  The Challenge is intriguing.  I agree small business drives the economy in America.I have always been a firm believer in supporting our local residents in their business endeavors.  I trust if everyone is doing well then our economy will continue to thrive.  Just this week we found a neighbor boy saving for a laptop.  We employed him to deliver our 1,300 statistical reports to all households.  They have all been printed in color, folded and stuffed into plastic … (12 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward~Support-A-Student - 07/03/11 12:32 PM
Pay it Forward~Support-A-Student Across the country some students just got out of school. For many students in Austin, TX students have been out for more than a month. School will be back in session in the RRISD on August 23, 2011. Already the Partners In Education are getting commitments for donations for the "Support-A-Student" program. Current figures reflect more than 30% of our RRISD families (approx. 13,000 students) qualify for the federally-funded Free and Reduced Lunch Program which affords eligibility to receive free basic school supplies from the RRISD and the RRISD Partners In Education Foundation. The more donations collected the … (10 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward ~ Our Spreadsheets scored a lower tax appraisal for a resident in Canyon Creek - 06/22/11 05:22 PM
Every year we make sure we have a spreadsheet compiled of all sold properties in our Canyon Creek community for the previous year and the first half of the current year.  We do this to help our neighbors fight their estimated property tax appraisal which is sent out in April of each year.  We can petition to protest as long as it's lodged by May 31st of the current year.  We had the nicest call from a resident who utilized our spreadsheet to fight his property tax value and he was able to lower his property value at his hearing last week!  … (8 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward ~ Recycling Books - 06/18/11 07:09 AM
In our office we started several years ago a system of recycling books.  We have a large drawer up front where many of us drop books as we finish them.  We can search through the drawer to find a new selection which is fun because there is always something exciting to read (and there are quite a few of us who like a variety of reading material)!  I won a Kindle at Rain Camp in Houston last December and got into the habit of downloading books so weren't contributing any more to our office drawer of reading materials (the downside of the Kindle).  Two weeks ago … (16 comments)

pay it forward: Pay it Forward ~ Providing A Quality Vendor List - 06/10/11 06:11 AM
There are so many places now to go to find good vendors in your communities.  Vendors are just like the weather or Real Estate, they are local. Austin residents are not afraid to start up many types of businesses as they believe in free enterprise!  Angies list is a good place to look as well as reviews on Yelp. As a local Realtor with 21 years of servicing NW Austin my list of good local movers, handymen, electricians, landscapers, painters etc. evolved.  My vendor list has been compiled from referrals from past clients, residents and other agents.  Calls come in daily … (20 comments)

pay it forward: Pay it Forward ~Yearly Sold Reports ~ Making a difference - 06/07/11 03:45 PM
In Texas we receive our estimated property tax assesments in April and May and have until May 31st, to protest for our property values for our 2011 property taxes.  The final evaluation comes out the end of October and our taxes are due and payable by December 31st if you want to take a property tax deduction on your 2011 income taxes.  Otherwise you have until January 31st of the next year before property taxes are delinquent.  Every year we compile a spreadsheet with all the sold properties in the year before and the start of the year in our community to help … (12 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward ~ Ronald McDonald House - 06/04/11 07:49 AM
Pay It Forward ~ Ronald McDonald House    It's been de-cluttering, re-arranging and out with the old and in with the new around our house!  I guess we are taking to heart some of our own advice in getting our listings ready for market (trust me we are not thinking of selling). The hard freezes from this past unusally cold winter struck much of our landscaping and even the exterior is undergoing a makeover!  The question becomes what do we do with items we no longer want?  Sure kids may have first dibs but there are still things to donate.  A friend of Geno's suggested … (27 comments)

pay it forward: Pay it Forward ~ Have Lip Gloss-Will Travel - 05/26/11 12:47 PM
My granddaughter's Volleyball team is headed to Atlanta for the Junior Olympics and came up with a very creative fund raiser which of course I jumped on to help them out!
Ultimate Face Cosmetics generously donated tubes of lip gloss in its new color "Frankincense" to their team to sell.  The Lip Gloss retails for $14.50 per tube, but the team is selling them for a $10 donation.  This shimmery lip gloss has a fun story behind it as it was created specifically for the 2011 GRAMMY VIP Gift Bags and distributed in February to many celebrities! They are selling like hot … (23 comments)

pay it forward: Pay it Forward ~ It Always Pays To Do the Right Thing - 05/14/11 08:29 AM
This week I was excited to be working with a previous client and even wrote a post "Working together - It's like old times"! We signed a listing agreement to go on market May 24th, I emailed my stager to contact them and scheduled the photographer.
I scheduled appointments for this Saturday to look at 2 resale homes and meet with a builder to possibly write up a contract on new construction  (they found a community they loved).  I asked them to contact the lender this week that the builder uses (if you use their lender they pay 1% towards closing … (26 comments)

pay it forward: Paying it forward ~ Canyon Creek NW Austin Swim Team ~ 2011 - 04/27/11 03:20 PM
Paying it forward ~ Canyon Creek NW Austin Swim Team ~ 2011We got a call from the Canyon Creek Swim Team to see if we would sponsor the Canyon Creek Swim team "Cyclones" for another year.  We are thrilled to do so!  Every year we see fewer willing to step up to the post and keep these community events on track.  This is the time more than ever we need to make sure these activities keep funded.
Our community of Canyon Creek prides itself on community involvement for all the residents.  Nestled in the rolling hill country, Canyon Creek sports 1,300+ … (2 comments)

pay it forward: Pay It Forward ~ A Surprise Treat - 12/16/10 05:52 PM
We like to stop at a place close by our community on Sunday mornings for breakfast. It's like old home week...we see many neighbors and friends with their families.  Like most places they have gum ball machines with candy and trinkets that make the little ones go wild!
Many parents just give in and know they are going to shell out a couple of quarters...then there are those that wistfully stand and watch...you have seen those sad little faces!
On Sunday coming out from breakfast there were two little boys with their hands in their pockets watching the quarters pop in! … (18 comments)

pay it forward: Paying it forward ~ Along the Austin hillsides miracles are occuring - 12/09/10 12:55 PM
Paying it forward
This week I spotted families decorating the scruffy cedar trees alongside of our highways in Austin, Tx.  It is a tradition in Austin in several areas in our city for people to stop and decorate the trees so the eye-candy is fun during the holidays!  You can go by one day and see undecorated trees and go by the next and see trees with new clothes! I pulled alongside of the road to snap some pictures and found some families needed more decorations (the trees are always bigger when you get up to them).  I told them … (31 comments)

pay it forward: Pay it forward~Austin Children's Center - 12/04/10 05:58 PM
Paying it forward~Today Gene and I had fun Christmas shopping for presents for the Austin Children's Shelter. Our office supports this institution because they provide emergency shelter and high quality care for abused and neglected children. We will take in our gifts to put under our office tree this week. On December 16th our gifts will be taken directly to the Austin Children's Shelter. During the holiday season they need generous support to make sure each child is remembered. It's a difficult time for these vulnerable children and it feels good to know our gifts will make a difference!
