switzerland: Motivational Monday ~ It's all in a day's work

While riding the gondolas to the Matterhorn Paradise in Zermatt, Switzerland, Gene and I were able to watch the workers in awe continuing to build new structures to carry more tourists and skiers up to higher heights. Helicopters would fly over pad sites with a large bucket attached and workers would catch it and attach a new bucket filled with concrete. This is a system that is slow but practical and what an accomplishment these workers must feel when seeing the end result! Harry S. Truman once said..."I found that the men and women who got up to the top were (16 comments)
switzerland: "Matte" "Horn" ~ "Meadow" "Peak"~ Vacation Souveniers

"Matte" "Horn" ~ "Meadow" "Peak" ~ Vacation SouveniersThe Matterhorn derives its name from two German words: Matte meaning meadow and Horn meaning peak. The Matterhorn has become an iconic emblem of the Swiss Alps and the Alp's in general. Geno, I and our two traveling buddies (Geno's brother and wife) just returned from 2 weeks in Germany, France and Switzerland. We ended up in Zermatt with the goal to investigate the Matterhorn and the glaciers from top to bottom. The sights were unbelievable and here are just a few of our souveniers: Kristine Ginsberg created an incredible post on her recent (24 comments)
switzerland: Motivational Monday ~ A Leap of Faith

"We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible."...C. MalesherbesWhat an exciting trip Geno and I have been on the last two weeks with our favorite traveling buddies Geno's brother and wife from Houston. We zigged-zagged from Frankfort, Germany to Geneva, Switzerland on to Chamonix, France on to Zermatt, Switzerland and back to Frankfort!I refer to my brother-in-law as Mr. Frankie. He is the nicest man you would want to meet and accomplishes more in a day than most 3 men I know. Our last morning in Zermatt, Mr. Frankie took a leap of faith with an (24 comments)
Eating out in Geneva is a gratifying experience! There are more restaurants per capita in Geneva than New York City. There is a wide selection of traditional and local fare, as well as excellent international and ethnic cuisine. In old town, a French restaurant "La Clemence" is a popular meeting place for students, lawyers and politicians. It's considered a very intimate bar in the winter but in the summer being seen on their sought after terrace is a must! (19 comments)
switzerland: Bring your own crowd

While we were in Geneva, Switzerland over New Years we enjoyed poking around the Place Neuve...the cultural hub of Geneva. We came across the longest wooden bench in the world (so they say). It is 120 meters long! Can you imagine how many people come sit during the spring, summer and fall and soak up the ambiance! (18 comments)
switzerland: We're back!! Wow... what a start for 2011!

To ring in 2011 properly Geno and I took off on a travel adventure (our favorite thing to do) to Lake Geneva, Switzerland and Frankfort, Germany. We basked in the alpine panorama staying on Lake Geneva. We could feel the inspiration of the many famous musical composers, writers, actors and poets who settled in the area. We reveled in catching a glimpse of the Jet d'Eau (the tallest fountain in the world) the first day we got there. However, it was not turned on the next two days so could not get a picture! The wind (called "Seiches") by the locals (33 comments)
This picture was taken on another adventure with our favorite traveling companions: Gene's brother and his wife. We stepped back in time and stayed at Badeutt's Palace in St. Moritz overlooking the famous Lake St. Moritz. Can you believe they enjoy over 300 days a year of sunshine? It's known as "Top of the World" because the highest summit in the Eastern Alps ~ The Piz Bernia ~ lies a few kilometers south of this village (we rode the Bernia Railway past the Alps and trust me it is the tallest (10 comments)
