ut: Austin Annual 3M Half Marathon ~ Sunday, January 20, 2019 - 01/14/19 12:54 PM
It’s that time of year again and we can expect as many as 7,000 runners to participate in the 24th annual 3M Half Marathon. Plan on a hilly race as you take to running in the streets and through neighborhoods in our Texas Capital this Sunday January 20, 2019.
The good thing is the hills are mostly downhill. You’ll start at a peak elevation of almost 900 feet above sea level in the northern part of the city on Stonelake Boulevard, near Baby Acapulco Restaurant & Cantina. The course will wind around Braker Lane, Burnet Lane, Longhorn Boulevard and United Drive and … (18 comments)

ut: University of Texas most distinguished Landmark - UT Tower - 01/20/17 11:46 AM
The 300-foot tall UT Austin Tower was designed by Paul Cret, and completed in 1937. It serves as a representation of intellectual excellence and individual opportunity. The tower was financed through a Works Progress Administration grant, a New Deal program created during the Great Depression.
The main building was created to house the University’s central library. The reading rooms, “Hall of Texas and “Hall of Noble Words” were connected to a central reference room. 6 seals of Texas decorated the room adorned with oak and marble.
The Tower rising 27 floors above the reading rooms contained the library’s book stacks. Clientele came in … (16 comments)

ut: Serendipity Sunday ~ Every Time - 01/10/17 10:34 AM
Handsome Hudson and Beautiful Beckett have been taught in Montessori school to cross their hearts and sing the National Anthem each day before school. This reverence is carried home. Since their mom and dad are avid UT and Clemson fans when the National Anthem is played before a game the kids take this seriously! Monday night before the Clemson/Alabama championship game this is the scene in front of their TV! I just adore these two ♥♥
They stand, sing and cross their hearts for the National Anthem..... Every time.

ut: Why Millennials are attracted to Austin’s lifestyle - 06/21/16 07:29 AM
We read articles every day about why Millennials are different from other generations. Who are these people? Most all Demographers lump them in the 18-34 age group and have now surpassed the Baby Boomers (ages 51-69) in numbers.
Austin is attracting large numbers of Millennials moving here through job creation from companies like Google, Apple, Oracle, National Instruments and so many more! The University of Texas and Austin Community College attracts Millennials and UT Dell Med is opening with its first set of 50 students! Austin is diversified with so many sectors needing employees. ut: Serendipity Sundays ~ A song for you! - 08/06/15 07:19 AM
Handsome Hudson likes the sound of music!  Hudson proudly can sing "The Eyes of Texas", the official alma mater of the University of Texas.  He just might be strumming the music to sing with the lyrics (or not):
The Eyes of  Texas are upon you,
All the livelong day.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
You cannot get away.
Do not think you can escape them
At night or early in the morn --
The Eyes of Texas are upon you
'Til Gabriel blows his horn.
I think he is confused...he is wearing a Clemson shirt ♥.

ut: What drives the Austin economy? - 07/29/15 07:08 AM
 What drives the Austin economy?
Some feel job creation is driving the Austin economy. Others feel it is the real estate sector made up of both owners and renters. It’s a combination of both….a catch 22. Austin’s illustrious job creation is fueling a strong demand for homes and apartments. It does not appear this is going to let up any time soon!
Large business is offering good paying jobs as their companies expand. They are bringing in newcomers to Austin at an alarming rate. Lower wage workers can readily find jobs as restaurants and entrepreneurs open local business ventures. Many UT students … (20 comments)

ut: You might be from Texas "IF"... - 04/13/15 02:24 AM
You might be from Texas “IF” you know:

* Texas is the only state to enter the United States by a joint resolution treaty rather than territorial annexation.
* 3 former Presidents of the United States hail from Texas..Lyndon B. Johnson, George Bush and George W. Bush.
* The dome of the capitol building in Austin towers seven feet higher than the nation’s capitol in Washington!
* The 825,000 acre King Ranch in South Texas is larger than the state of Rhode Island.
* Dr. Pepper was “invented” in Waco Texas in 1885 and is the oldest of the major brands of soft drinks in the … (31 comments)

Historic Aldridge Place in Austin, Texas 78754

Austin has so many charming communities and one of them is called “Aldridge Place” and it’s located in the center of Austin, Texas. In the early 1910’s this community was touted as the first premier development in Austin. Many of Austin’s most prominent residents resided in the neighborhood.

I love driving through Aldridge Place today because it’s been able to maintain a unique blend of old Austin. Its tree line streets and exotic landscape oozes such character! There is a wonderful blend of distinctive styles and sizes. Some majestic houses hold historic … (10 comments)

50th Anniversary Signing of the Civil Rights Act Austin TX LBJ Library

April in Austin will kick off an important event celebrating and honoring the 50th Anniversary Signing of the Civil Rights Act. The LBJ Library is the fitting location as former Southern President LBJ embodied the US civil rights evolution.

In December of 1972 LBJ hosted a Civil Rights Symposium in the LBJ Library on the UT campus. LBJ was able to sooth the flaring tempers that flew from the racial tensions, using his power and talents demonstrated in 1964 when he steered the bill’s passage through the … (17 comments)

The big news this week is Austin’s winning bid for ESPN’s X Games!

If you haven’t been out to the Circuit Of The Americas yet – where a majority of the events will be held – you may be surprised to see it’s surrounded by more than 1600 acres, including a park area and amphitheater, with great potential to deliver a “festival feel”.

ut: A new app ~ beDJ ~ Only in Austin - 05/17/12 05:55 AM
This time a quintet of UT students founded another young Austin based company called Symplexum LLC. They have developed a smartphone application designed to connect to venues with visitors via music criticism. The app is called beDJ and it is intended to give users a method of rating music in public spaces while providing the owners of such venues with customer analytics.
This sounds like a natural for Austin, Texas ..the live music capital!
This app is aimed at the vendors (bars, stores, restaurants etc. ) to provide something to engage the customer! If the venue can entice the customer to … (16 comments)

ut: Colt McCoy Still Wows Long Horn Fans - 06/23/11 12:07 AM
Saturday, June 18th, 2011 Colt McCoy made a signing appearance at the "Academy" in NW Austin.  Colt took the Longhorns to the Rose Bowl in 2005 claiming the National Championship!  Now the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns...he is not forgotten!  Every fan tried to secure an event pass which were passed out starting at 10am!  The signing took place from 12-1pm and was limited to the first 250 fans!  Geno made the mistake of stopping in to pick something up...walking in not knowing this event was in progress he almost found himself jostled back out the front door of the store!
