vacations: Thankful Thursday ~ Half A World Away ~ The Giza Plateau - 03/08/12 03:57 AM
Now that we are getting our slide shows down we are able to resurrect photos from previous travels and assemble some continuity to our adventures!
In August of 2010 we were able to make safe passage to Egypt, Jordan and Israel.  Six months later we would not have ventured on this trip.  The temperature soared as high as 122 degrees!  Unfortunately for us this was the only time the four of us could get away...that's okay... the adventure was worth every drop of sweat!
....More to come!

vacations: Married 17 years to my best friend ~ Happy Anniversary - 02/26/11 06:43 AM
Today marks our 17th year Anniversary!  It's hard to believe in 1994 we exchanged vows at the Renaissance Hotel in front of our families and closest friends.  How does the time escape us so quickly?  We spent 2 weeks in Hawaii and have taken so many wonderful trips since then exploring parts of the world.
For many years we always took a trip on our Anniversary and would bring our cards for each other and write a new message.  Our cards are full (17 years worth), but it is so fun to read all the old messages and the new one … (54 comments)

vacations: It's Not Just any Door ~ (Almost) Speechless Sunday - 01/23/11 08:23 AM

While in Geneva, Switzerland we walked and walked in Old Town soaking up the ambiance.  I was intrigued with this 400 year old door that is a service entrance (yes I know there are no stairs) on the side of the “Les Armures Restaurant”.
It is known as one of the oldest in the city and has become one of Geneva’s favorite restaurants.  The Swiss specialties such as raclette or fondue are served in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.  This door is still in use by using a plank to walk-up for deliveries. Lunch was wonderful!

vacations: Bring your own crowd - 01/11/11 07:22 AM

While we were in Geneva, Switzerland over New Years we enjoyed poking around the Place Neuve...the cultural hub of Geneva.
We came across the longest wooden bench in the world (so they say).  It is 120 meters long!
Can you imagine how many people come sit during the spring, summer and fall and soak up the ambiance!

vacations: We're back!! Wow... what a start for 2011! - 01/10/11 02:24 PM
To ring in 2011 properly Geno and I took off on a travel adventure (our favorite thing to do) to Lake Geneva, Switzerland and Frankfort, Germany.
We basked in the alpine panorama staying on Lake Geneva.  We could feel the inspiration of the many famous musical composers, writers, actors and poets who settled in the area.  We reveled in catching a glimpse of the Jet d'Eau (the tallest fountain in the world) the first day we got there.  However, it was not turned on the next two days so could not get a picture!  The wind (called "Seiches") by the locals … (33 comments)

vacations: Friday Funnies ~ Standing Out In The Crowd - 10/01/10 03:37 PM
When we were in Amsterdam, we loved sitting at the sidewalk cafes people watching.
We were all taken aback when we saw a silver moped screech to a stop and this person of style and taste hopped off!
The stance and posture proved they were obviously waiting for another someone...it was a real eye opener when the other party showed up!

vacations: (Not so) Wordless Wednesday ~ Jerusalem Marketplace (Shuk) - 09/29/10 07:06 PM

I've read about the Jerusalem Marketplace so was anxious when we were travling in Jerusalem this summer to make sure we saw the most famous shuk of all called Mahne Yehudah.   It is located between Jaffa and Agrippas only a few hundred yards from the city center.
Almost all the stalls in the shuk sell fruits and vegetables.  There are also butchers, bakers, nut and grain sellers, cheese and dairy shops, spice merchants and fast food vendors.  What we found so exciting was the wildly fluctuating prices which our guide told us depended on the time of the day and … (9 comments)

vacations: Just a Glimpse of An Adventure in Egypt, Jordan and Israel - 09/07/10 06:45 AM
It's been a crazy week since we returned from our exciting three week adventure through Egypt,  Jordan and Israel. This was a trip we planned last year but due to travel alerts were forced to cancel.  This year we slid in under the radar and are so glad we made the decision to go!!
We have for the past 6 years traveled with Gene's brother and wife...our traveling cronies.  What a spectacular time we had meeting people and immersing ourselves in their culture and food. We rode camels, rode in horse drawn carriages and rode mules!
Here is a glimpse of … (11 comments)

vacations: (Not So) Wordless Wednesday ~ Horus and Hathor in the Temple of Edfu - 09/01/10 03:30 PM
While we were traveling down the Nile River our ship stopped on the west bank of the Nile in the city of Edfu which was known in Greco-Roman times as Apollonopolis Magna, after the chief god Horus-Apollo. Construction of the temple began Aug.23, 237 BC.
The Dendera temple was dedicated to Horus and Hathor of Dendera (his wife). It is the second largest temple in Egypt after Karnak (which we also saw) and is one of the best preserved.  This is a photo of Horus and Hathor at the entrance to the courtyard.
Each year Hathor would travel from her Temple Denderah … (8 comments)

vacations: (not so) Wordless Wednesday - 08/25/10 06:29 PM
On our trip in Egypt we discovered a wonderfully refreshing drink...lemonade!  Not what I would normally expect when ordering lemonade!  Their version is using fresh limes and adding fresh mint topped with a slice of lime.  It's a gorgeous looking drink and as good as it looks!
We were adventuresome in trying their native foods and found them very enjoyable (okay, most of the dishes).

vacations: Eat My Bubbles - 06/14/10 04:12 PM
Swimming is a sport started at an early age in Austin.  A role model of the top Long Horn Swim Team doesn't hurt to get a youngster interested.
There are many summer league programs to join which gets kids up and active racing to swim practice during the week (yes, that means rolling out of bed early during summer vacation) and competing with their team on weekends at swim meets.  It is a family affair as it takes the effort of parents to organize age groups, sell food at the concession stands, time the races and so much more.
My youngest … (7 comments)

vacations: The Three R's - 01/06/10 11:04 AM
We just got back from a great trip to ring in 2010!  We left on New Year's Eve Day for Cabo San Lucas, arriving early afternoon.  The sun was warm, breezes balmy and scenery enticing.
We planned our trip months ago knowing we would need some time for the three R's after a busy and productive 2009.
We Reflected, Relaxed and Rejuvenated!

Getting back late last night to chilly weather and a list of calls to follow up on (thanks to our capable assistant). It's full steam ahead!

vacations: BACK FROM VACATION...MISSED ACTIVE RAIN MAKERS! - 08/28/09 12:09 PM
I just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy!  I have great photos to share and if I can find my mind I'll get some posts up!  I've missed the sharing of topics and situations that occur in our industry. This morning I was reading Toula Rosebrock's post on her experience with a buyer on a final walk-thru before closing and Mary Douglas's post on drive-by real estate (I loved her photo) and realized how much I enjoy the entertaining interaction!Glad to be back!
