Three really good reasons to live in Nanaimo - 12/14/10 12:45 PM
It rained very hard last night but today it is bright and sunny. I looked to see what it was like in other parts of the Provence and it made me glad I was here. It is cold and snowy elsewhere, in Nanaimo it looks like a spring day.

REMAX of Nanaimo web cam
There is a web cam located on my web site if you want to see what our weather looks like. If you are thinking about retiring in BC I would suggest Nanaimo. Homes are more reasonable here than Vancouver or Victoria and we … (0 comments)

RE/MAX Housing Market Outlook 2011 - Western Canada - 12/09/10 05:09 PM

Although improved economic fundamentals will have a positive impact on Canadian housing markets moving forward, the forecast for residential real estate sales remains static in most major centres in 2011, according to a report released today by RE/MAX.
The RE/MAX Housing Market Outlook 2011, examining trends and developments in 26 major centres across the country, found that home-buying activity in 2010 fell short of 2009 levels. Housing values, however, continued to climb, with virtually all areas reporting an upswing in average price, ranging from just under one per cent to 15 per cent this year. Lower inventory levels in many … (0 comments)

Court Ordered Sales in British Columbia - 12/09/10 04:55 PM
The first thing I would say is that I am not a lawyer and I am not giving legal advice. This is just to give potential buyers an understanding of how the process works
In law the word Foreclosure means to deprive a borrower of the right to redeem the mortgaged property. The borrower may walk away with some proceeds or not depending on the size of the mortgage and the proceeds and cost of the sale.
The first accepted offer in a court ordered sale is just like a regular sale. The is offer and acceptance and whatever subjects the … (0 comments)

Carbon Monoxide Alarms a wise purchase for home owners - 12/08/10 03:32 AM
It's colourless, odourless, and tasteless.
Exposure can cause symptoms similar to the flu and food poisoning.
It's sometimes called the "silent killer."
It's carbon monoxide and it can be deadly.
When it comes to protecting yourself and your family from the dangers of carbon monoxide exposure, the first line of defence is always the proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances. When fuel-burning devices are properly installed and maintained, they will operate as designed and exhaust all vent products outdoors.
The second line of defence is the installation of carbon monoxide alarms. The importance of having carbon monoxide alarms is heightened during the … (2 comments)

Bank of Canada leaves rates at !% due to strength of loonie - 12/08/10 03:24 AM
The bank of Canada has decided to leave overnight lending rate at 1%...for now. The next date to watch will be Jan 18 2011. This announcement should allow the banks to keep mortgage rates the same however banks do not always follow the bank of Canada. If you are looking to buy in the next few months I would recommend you see your mortgage broker and get a rate lock for 120 days. The American banks have also held there rates and the tax cuts to assist stimulating the economy. They say if the US sneezes Canada gets a cold... but … (0 comments)

Nanaimo Home Prices holding and sales roughly same as 2009. - 12/03/10 06:05 PM
Nanaimo MLS sales figures are out for November 2010 and the number are actually up from last year (90 units sold versus 85). The increase is small and last year was slow as well after the US meltdown.
The average sale price is up roughly $20,000; a suprise given the number of homes on the market at this time.( $360,328 in 2010 versus $340,000 in 2009).
If you are curious what your home is worth and would like a current market evaluation. Give me a call or send me an email.
Now is a good time to buy with interests rates being so low.

7 great reasons to list during Christmas holidays. - 12/02/10 07:08 PM
People come home to visit family and have more free time.
Anyone looking at real estate when it's cold out is not doing it for fun, they are serious.
Many listings are taken off the market or have restricted showings...less competition, less supply results in higher sale prices.
Houses smell good with a Christmas tree in them and baking in the kitchen.
Anyone contimplating a move in December is doing it because they have to not because they want to.
By selling now you will be able to write an offer without subject to a sale clause and snag any of the … (1 comments)
