minden: I've Got A Short Stack ... Yeah! - 08/05/09 10:14 PM
I've got a short stack of alfalfa for my goats and to supplement my horses. We've been trading our alfalfa for grass hay for the past few years. We also have sold to the last dairy in the Carson Valley - dairy hay! What a compliment - that is the best. They got a conservation easement, and sold the dairy herd. there were once 22 dairies, now there are none. We haven't kept our wonderful alfalfa for a few years, but we've got some now ... a short stack. Yahoo!

minden: If You Are Going Through Hell, Keep Going - 08/01/09 09:53 AM
Thanks to John Mulckey, TheHousingGuru, for this wonderful blog. I found great perspective here that I want to share. Via John Mulkey, Housing Guru (TheHousingGuru.com): Winston Churchill, in a quote describing how we should face adversity, said, “If you are going through hell, keep going.” Nothing better describes how we should best respond to difficult situations. Don’t stop; don’t waste time lamenting; just forge ahead. There was once a time we lacked the very things that many now feel they have lost. We’ve all had setbacks, temporary reversals that may have thrown us off track; but such vexations are in

minden: My Wife Really Got My Goat - 05/01/09 12:15 PM
There I was, busy with a Buyer going over the homes we were about to go look at when I am told my wife was calling and must talk to me. She is my team partner, a licensee, and she knew I was with a Buyer so I figured it to be important. I took the call. She starts telling me about the goats a local lender had rescued ... something she had talked about the day before and we kibashed since we already have four goats. She went on ... another agent is taking the two pygmy goats, but there

minden: Communities of Carson Valley - 01/24/09 06:37 PM
The Carson Valley is known for its three major communities, Genoa, Gardnerville and Minden. There have been many other settlements along the way, however, and several of them continue to have their name used as a reference to the part of the Valley where they were located. Cradlebaugh was started by William Cradlebaugh, builder of Cradlebaugh bridge, the first bridge over the Carson River. It still used today on U.S. Hwy 395 by people traveling from Minden to Carson City. It actually had a post office on two occasions, the last closed January 15, 1900. Waterloo was a settlement founded in

minden: Beautiful Carson Valley, Nevada - 01/24/09 10:43 AM
The beautiful Carson Valley has enamored all who lay eyes on her, from the settlers moving West in the 1800's to the modern California evacuee. The spectacular Sierra Nevada range borders the western edge of the Valley rising 3,000 up from the Valley floor. The signature view of Job's Peak is featured in local art and photos as well as being a cause for home orientation as they optimize views. To the East the Valley abuts the Pine Nut Mountains, home of the largest population of wild horses in the world. Though the Valley floor is primarily deeded ground, the mountains

minden: When I'm Driving In the Carson Valley It Seems Like the Road Changes Names ... Is It Me? - 12/19/08 09:44 AM
You are experiencing one of the wonderful quirks about the Carson Valley, and, yes, several of the roads do have multiple names. The fact that U.S. Highway 395 is also called Main Street is a no-brainer. Other roads meander for a long ways changing names along the way. Take Foothill Road for instance. It begins in the south as Dressler Lane where it goes through the Dressler Home Ranch. From there it turns into Fairview Lane, thence to Riverview, thence to Foothill Road and thence to Jacks Valley Road. Point to remember, it starts at Dressler Lane, not Dressler Road which
