"Impatient Buyers Target Homes Before They Go on Sale" by Jim Buchta, (MCT) - "House hunters frustrated with the market's supply of homes have shifted their search from the streets to underground. More buyers are targeting homes that haven't yet hit the market, a trend agents say will grow as inventory shrinks and the mismatch of what's available and what's desired continues." (full story) This story, highlighted by RISMedia, immediately caught my attention. Just a few months ago I wrote a blog "Have Buyer, Need House: Where Did the Inventory Go?" describing the dilemma of shrinking inventory in certain areas and (9 comments)
The Nationwide Open House Weekend is about promoting homeownership - I'm all for it, owning a home is still part of the American Dream and a great long-term investment, especially at today's low interest rates. Open Houses are generally a good way to get an idea what is available and for how much. However, please keep in mind (5 comments)
PCS to WRNMMC Bethesda: Commuting Options - 04/26/12 05:28 PM
PCS to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda: Commuting Options - Where is the best area to buy or rent? The base realignment of Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the former National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, MD came with some big parking woes. Only about 25% of all troops and civilians working at WRNMMC have a parking pass to park on base. Base housing is non-existent and Bethesda itself is a pricey Real Estate Market which the majority cannot afford. When the new parking policy was first implemented not many options were available. The best advice was, and still (8 comments)

Brookeville, MD Market Trends and Homes For Sale - 04/23/12 07:21 PM
Brookeville, MD, a charming town just north of Olney and Silver Spring, MD dates back to 1794. Its appeal to home buyers can be summed up by its historic significance and properties, its location (9 miles to the nearest Metro Station and about 20 miles to Wash DC), its setting (surrounding by spectacular parkland) and recreational opportunities, great schools and a quaint community feel. Many properties also come with a generously sized lot and plenty of privacy which living in close-in Silver Spring, MD, for example, is lacking. My First Active Rain Meet-Up - 04/18/12 08:45 PM
I'm still very much an Active Rain grasshopper (when does one graduate?), trying to find my voice and place. Although I've connected with a number of bloggers and even met a couple in person, I had yet to attend an Active Rain Meet-Up. Today's Spring Meet-Up at G&M Restaurant in Linthicum Heights, MD was my chance. All I can say is that it was exactly like AR promises it to be and then some. It was great to meet AR legends such as Margaret Rome, to see Bridget McGee again with whom I've held a mini-meet-up before and to get to (15 comments)

Please thank a BRAT - 04/16/12 07:02 PM
April is the Month of the Military Child My oldest daughter is a daddy's girl through and through. She looks up to him. She adores him. He is her hero. When he came home from Iraq, she was 2 years old and practically attached to his leg for the first few weeks while we enjoyed some family time. When he had to go back to work my daughter was not only heart broken, she was terrified. For weeks she would get up in the morning, stand at the kitchen window, watch him leave and cry. It took a long time for (14 comments)

20905 Silver Spring, MD was off to a somewhat slower start this year but has regained a bit of its momentum, at least as far as the number of sales are concerned. 25 homes SOLD during the 1st quarter of 2012 compared to 26 during the same period in 2009, 23 in 2010 and 28 in 2011. A stable sales pace is always good news! Unfortunately, the same can't be said about a declining average sales price, which we have been seeing thus far for 2012 - at least it's not good news for sellers, for buyers this spells opportunity. Buying or selling a house can be a lot like climbing a steep mountain - 04/09/12 08:39 PM
Buying or selling a home will usually go one of two ways: it's smooth sailing or a rocky road. There's some in between, too, but more often than not it will be one or the other. It's the smooth transactions that have me on edge the most. When everything is just moving along without a problem I keep wondering when that shoe will drop. I'm not asking for trouble, it's just the nature of the beast beauty of the business that issues will surface that need to be resolved. Yes, more often than not, buying or selling a home can feel (9 comments)
Don't throw out the old stuff - reuse and repurpose, an example - 04/07/12 07:22 PM
Don't throw out the old stuff - reuse and repurpose! Almost 3 years ago good neighbors and friends of ours moved from Maryland to a little cabin on Lake Jackson in Virginia. Naturally, I'm still a little sad that they moved about 2 hours away from us - if you have great neighbors you just don't want to see them leave! But seeing how beautiful Lake Jackson is and what a quaint little community they are lucky to be part of, I can't really blame them. So, for the past 3 years they've been hard at work renovating every little square (10 comments)
Silver Spring, MD Open Houses April 7 & 8, 2012 - 04/06/12 06:56 PM
Not surprisingly, the number of Open Houses scheduled for this weekend, April 7th & 8th, 2012 in Silver Spring, MD is a lot smaller. We've been averaging about 80 public Open Houses - give or take a few - every Open House Sunday for the past few weeks. This weekend the total is 18, 8 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday. I'm not convinced that they'll be seeing a lot of traffic however. If you are thinking about visiting some Open Houses this weekend, please click on the Silver Spring pic for a list!
