Home Sales Higher in April Than Expected - 05/26/10 12:16 PM
The National Association of Realtors released a report this week that revealed a surprising jump in existing home sales in April. According to the data, resales of residential real estate went up 7.6% nationally after economists predicted only a 4.6% improvement last month.
The federal home buyer tax credit (which expired at the end of April) unquestionably contributed to the uptick in activity as people scrambled to get contracts signed before the April 30th deadline. The Ricketts family bought the Chicago Cubs from the Tribune Company last year in a reported $800 million deal that included a 25% stake in Comcast SportsNet. Since that time, the Ricketts have made a number of updates to the Friendly Confines. Many restorations and improvements were completed for the 2010 season and most recently the owners are trying to get a giant Toyota billboard approved by City Council to put up behind the left side bleachers.
