The Congressional Budget Office has prepared a report that suggests ways for Congress to raise revenues. One key suggestion is that Congress cut deductions for home owner mortgage interest from the present $1.1 million cap to $500,000, phasing in the reduction by $100,000 annually starting in 2013.

The government continues to say that it has to address the problems in the housing market. According to news reports, the Treasury Department is considering a plan to drive down mortgage rates as low as 4.5% to help stimulate the housing market.  "Treasury officials said that the [buydown] plan could be a more effective way to help home owners than focusing solely on borrowers who are struggling to meet their monthly payments," the Washington Post story says. During these "Dog" days of summer we are all trying to stay cool and keep our utility bills as low as possible. I came across the Tax Incentives Assistance Project today.
The Tax Incentives Assistance Project (TIAP) is sponsored by a coalition of public interest nonprofit groups, government agencies, and other organizations in the energy efficiency field.  It is designed to give consumers and businesses information they need to make use of the federal income tax incentives for energy efficient products and technologies passed by Congress as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
