Earth Hour - Time well spent - 03/30/08 07:27 PM
We did our part Saturday evening to celebrate "Earth Hour". Obviously, this organized world-wide blackout was a symbolic gesture to raise awareness for limiting energy consumption and green living. The true energy savings was a drop in the bucket, but that wasn't the point, was it? For one hour my 10 year old son and I - the only ones home at the time - turned off the lights, tv's and computers, and went out on the front lawn of our Arcadia home and just bonded. I explained to him the importance of what we were doing and what we could do

Thoughts worth pondering... - 03/30/08 05:13 PM
Here are some thoughts from a friend of mine, Chris Pollinger, Presient of the Parent Relocation Council, that I thought are too good not to share.... Know how you measure success-Start living your life by design.Abandon perfectionism-Replace perfectionism with pride.Accept, then perfect, what isn't perfect-Acceptance is the first step toward perfection.Enjoy an absence of personal problems-Life's too short for problems of any kind-become a problem-free zone.Automate the business of your life-Don't you have better things to do?Upgrade your personal and professional network-People bring you the best opportunities in life.Seriously invest in a special skill set-The more you can deliver, the more you

Arcadia Little League Results - 03/27/08 11:35 PM
The halos start the season 2-0. The Arcadia Angels cruised to a comfortable 11-3 victory over the Yankees in the late Minors game Thursday at ANLC. Brandon Rosvall played the entire game in left-field and finished the night with a base hit to right, a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored. As soon as I get permission from the other parents, I'll add full game summaries. Feel free to post scores and game summaries from the rest of Arcadia Little League action. I just ask that you use kid's names only with their parent's permission.

Help Keep the Government from Stealing Your Home Equity - 03/26/08 07:50 PM
The Arizona Association of Realtors has launched a petition drive to collect enough signatures to place a constitutional amendment on the November 4, 2008 ballot. The No New Tax On Our Homes initiative will prohibit the double taxation of your home, land, or commercial real estate in Arizona by banning a real estate transfer tax through a constitutional amendment, once and for all preventing the government from trying to pass bills to steal your home equity. In other states when Real Estate Transfer Taxes have passed, they have never been repealed and the amount of the tax continues to climb. Help let

Arcadia Business Stories Wanted - 03/26/08 07:12 PM
If you own a business that serves that Arcadia area, I would love to hear about it. I would like to post at least one article per week highlighting the family owned businesses - and the people behind them - that makes Arcadia such a dynamic community to live in. Maybe you don't own a business yourself, but knows someone who does. Please pass this post along, or send me their story. I especially am on the lookout for those businesses that offer world-class service to their customers. These are the ones that when you leave you just say "WOW!" and want to share

Roof Rat Citrus Collection Extended - 03/26/08 06:29 PM
A timely article on http://www.azcentral.com/ today written by Diana Balazs regarding the extension of the anti-roof rat citrus collection program through this week end. You can read the article at: http://www.azcentral.com/community/scottsdale/articles/0326sr-pvcitrus0327-ON.html I know Barry & Joan Paceley from our involvement in Cub Scouts and I just want to add myself to the hopefully huge list of Arcadia residents who have thanked them for taking the lead on fighting these little critters. Their efforts, and those of everyone who has helped them over the past few years, have made Arcadia a better place to live. You can check out their official Arcadia Roof Rat website at

Arcadia Little League Results - 03/25/08 10:51 PM
Arcadia Little League is back in full swing and the evenings couldn't be better. If you are looking for some great, inexpensive entertainment, head out to a ballpark in the area on any evening Monday-Friday, or Saturdays morning-afternoon to catch a baseball or softball game and to cheer on our youth. These kids and volunteer coaches and umpires poor their hearts out to play the game with an innocence long lost in the upper grade levels. It's for the pure fun of it. The parents are mostly on their best behavior at this level, cheering their teams on in success and failure. To

Arcadia Area Real Estate Market Data for February 2008 - 03/24/08 11:51 PM
Here is the single-family homes sales data for Arcadia and the surrounding areas for February 2008. It was a slower than usual month for Arcadia Proper (Area 405) in February with only 2 closed escrows and 3 new ones opened. Paradise Valley (Area 404) did well by comparison with 29 closed and 43 new ones Pending. South Arcadia (Area 406) and South Scottsdale (Area 410) had higher list price to sell price ratios at nearly 95%. All areas continue to be plagued by many more new listings coming to the market which is extending the Days on Market and absorption rates.
