Arcadia 9, McDowell Mountain 0 (Minors All-Stars)
In continuing the tradition that I started during the the Angels regular season, I am providing these game summaries and highlights so that the players have the opportunity to see thier names in print, and can share the game accounts with their family and friends who may have missed the games.
On another scorcher of an afternoon where the temperatures hit 113 degrees in Phoenix, the Arcadia All-Stars took on the McDowell Mountain All-Stars in second-round, lower-bracket action of the District 6 9-10 Year Old All Star Tournament.
Where pretty much everything that could go wrong did go wrong on Saturday night, Monday night's game … (0 comments)

I try really hard to keep these positive to encourage the kids, but unfortunately, last night there wasn't that much positive to write about.  The evening went something like this:
On the first day of summer and the longest-day of the year where the … (0 comments)

Rockies 12, Angels 7 (Arcadia Minors)
All good things come to an end.  The Angels had a great run against some tough odds, but the Rockies up-ended them 12-7 Thursday night to end their season and Championship hopes.
The Angels played a pretty good game, looking especially sharp in the field, until the late innings when our pitching tired and the Rockies bats came to life.  Max Siegel started on the mound and got one strikeout, then Grady Ottomeyer and Brandon Rosvall both made great cross-the-diamond throws to Parker Walton at first for the last two outs.  Beau Kelly and Max led off … (3 comments)

Angels 11, Cubs 0 (Arcadia Minors)
The Angels continued their roll through the lower bracket of the Arcadia Minors Playoff race last night with a convincing 11-0 victory over the Cubs.
Grady Ottomeyer struckout the side to get out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first.  In the bottom of the first, Beau Kelly led off with a single on the first pitch, followed by Max Siegel who did the same, with both stealing a base in the process.  Grady knocked in the Angels' first run of the night on a sacrifice grounder.  Parker Walton followed with a base … (2 comments)

Angels 14, Red Sox 3 (Arcadia Minors)
In the make-up game from this weekend's rain out, the Angels jumped out to commanding early lead and never let up for a 41-3 victory over the Red Sox in tournament play.
Beau Kelly led off the game hitting the first pitch for a single and stolen base.  Max Siegel followed with the same, scoring Beau.  Grady Ottomeyer walked, but got forced out at 2nd on a fielder's choice RBI hit by Parker Walton, who went on to steal 2nd and 3rd and score.  Tanner Semple walked, stole two bases and scored.  Matthew McCartin got a … (1 comments)

A's 6, Angels 4 (Arcadia Minors)
Well, you hate to lose a heartbreak, but sometimes the better team wins.  Tonight, the A's simply out-played, and more importantly, out-lasted the Angels in a long 6-inning game in Round 2 of the Minors Playoffs.  These teams tied in their only other game on April 19th.
Max Siegel started the night on the mound and made quick work of the A's in the first with 2 strikeouts and a ground out.  The Angels tried to gt something going in their turn to bat with Beau Kelly walking and getting two stolen bases.  Grady Ottomeyer was hit … (0 comments)

Angels 15, Rockies 1 (Arcadia Minors)
For those of you waiting for the re-cap of Saturday's game against the Rockies, you can thank my ghost writer Carole Castle (Brandon's Grandma) for painstakingly documenting the game.  Below is her report.  A big THANK YOU to Carole for taking the time to do this!  It sounds like it was a remarkable performance by the Angels.  I wish that I could have been there to see it.  Great job Grady for hitting our first homerun of the season, and great play by all!

Angels 6, Rockies 5 (Arcadia Minors)
The Angles finished their regular season in fine form Wednesday evening in an exciting defeat of the Rockies 6-5 in 5 innings of play.  The win extended their season high winning streak to 7 games, and avenged their 7-4 loss to the Rockies on April 9th.
Max Siegel was his usually scrappy self collecting a double in the first, followed by stealing third and home.  Grady Ottomeyer followed with a single and two stolen bases of his own before the side was shut down on three strikeouts.  Beau Kelly pitched a solid first getting a strikout and … (0 comments)

Angels 8, Cubs 1 (Arcadia Minors)
Believe it or not, I do have a day job.  And sometimes I actually have to work.  Wednesday was one of those days, and unfortunately, I didn't make it to the game until the 2nd inning.  So, rather than make up a bunch of exciting plays (which come to think about it could have been a lot of fun to mess with everyones minds), I'll just return you now to regularly scheduled programming now in progress...
With two out in the top of the 2nd, and the Angels leading 4-0, Ian Kitts beat the throw to first for a … (1 comments)

Angels 14, Yankees 5 (Arcadia Minors)
Believe it or not, the Angels scored their highest run total of the season Wednesday night, and did it in only three innings of play!  Their 14-5 win over the Diamondbacks was nice payback for their early season 6-3 loss, and improved their win streak to 5 games, putting them 9-3-1 on the season.  Over the first 13 games they have out-scored their opponents 122-56.
Matthew McCartin started the night off on the mound and struggled a bit with his control giving up a few baserunners, but did find his grove in time to manage 2 strikeouts and hold the D'backs at only 1 run.  … (0 comments)

Angels 9, Yankees 2 (Arcadia Minors)
Another great game played by the Angels Thursday night as their pitching dominated the Yankees, and their batters hit line drive after line drive in the first two innings to build a quick 9-0 lead.
Max Siegel started off on the mound in the 1st inning with what was probably his best pitched game of the year.  He went three up, three down all on strikeouts to quickly get his team back in the dugout.  Batting second, he started the Angels fireworks with a single and stolen base, and scored on an RBI double by Grady Ottomeyer, who quickly … (0 comments)
