websites: ALMOST A THIRD OF THE WORLD USES THE INTERNET : 2,000,000,000 USERS - 06/03/11 01:00 PM
Wow. According to Internet World Stats we've hit 2 billion users. The Last time I wrote about this was just over two years ago (link below) and the number of Internet users had just hit 1.5 Billion. These are incredible numbers. As one might expect, the biggest growth has been in Asia where they've added almost 400 million users in the past couple of years. Everyone else has been growing at a less rapid, yet still impressive rate with Europe adding 100 million and the use a mere (!) 30 million. Percentage wise, Latin America and Africa are showing the biggest

websites: GETTING YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING BACK ON TRACK (PART 1) - 06/02/11 09:31 PM
Part of any worthwhile online marketing presence has got to include social media of some sort or another. Let's face it, it's not going away. Companies such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, Reddit, you name it, are being gobbled up or are IPO-ing like you wouldn't believe. They're also growing like you wouldn't believe either. To many people, there's still confusion when it comes to how to integrate social media into your overall strategy. Last time I checked, there were still 24 hours in a day. Work has to be done and there's little enough time as it is. Adding

websites: HOW DO YOU REFURBISH A WEBSITE? - 08/14/10 01:24 PM
When many people hear the word "refurbish", they tend to think of electronics that have been rebuilt or repaired and then sold at a discount as "almost, but not quite new". While this is one of the variations of the word, I prefer the dictionary definition (Merriam-Webster) for "refurbish"... to brighten or freshen up ...especially when it comes to websites. These are tough economic times, no disputing that fact. In addition, many small business owners or self-employed individuals are watching every penny. I include myself in this. As a web designer, I fully appreciate the decisions that people make to build

websites: SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING? 10 THINGS TO CONSIDER... - 07/20/10 10:06 AM
The term "social media" has become so widely used (and abused) that the meaning behind it has become rather generic. But remember that the "social" in "social media" should be just that. It suggests interaction and communication...TWO way. There are many many many people out there standing on their little platform shouting out their message and never listening. While this might work for celebrities, in my opinion it's probably a dubious marketing strategy. If you're going to use social media, then use it the way it was intended. Understand the terms and tools. Facebook is what I would consider true "social"

websites: (ALMOST) 2 BILLION AND STILL GOING UP! - 07/13/10 01:46 PM
Holy Internet Batman! In January 2009 I wrote an article titled "1.5 Billion Internet Users…and Growing", exploring the incredible development of the use of the web in recent years. I just happened to be (web) surfing this morning when I decided to visit the authority on Internet statistics, Internet World Stats... ...almost 2 BILLION! We'll perhaps a slight exaggeration. The numbers at the end of 2009, a mere 11 months after I wrote my last were 1,802,330,457. That's an increase of 400,000,000 users, or 26% of the world's population. In North America, the US is way out front in

websites: 10 REASONS TO NOT HAVE A WEBSITE - 01/15/10 02:09 PM
Here are 10 reasons to avoid getting out onto the Internet and joining the online community. These are all reasons we have heard from potential clients... 1. Websites don't work or aren't effective marketing tools) A well designed website will work, at least from a technical standpoint. As a marketing tool, a website can be many things. It's a 24x7 storefront, showcasing your business to the world when you can't. There are over a billion computer users on the Internet around the world. That's a lot of potential exposure. The right site, with the right marketing, both online and offline can

websites: THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM... - 06/05/09 09:17 AM
A little while ago I wrote an article about getting to the top of Google and other search engines (see SO YOU MADE IT TO THE TOP OF GOOGLE). In the article I pointed out that getting to the top slot isn't necessarily the "be all and end all"; you have to convert those visitors into transactions. On the web, this is generally done over time by cultivating the relationship. While there are cases when a visitor to a site contacts the site owner immediately, more often than not, there is a "wait and see" approach. That's one of the

websites: So...you made it to the top of Google... - 04/29/09 07:19 PM
So, you're number 1 in Google, maybe even MSN and Yahoo and yet...business isn't booming. Maybe it's the email...nope, that's working. Phones? Just got a call so it can't be that. But didn't they promise????? In the mad dash to get to the number 1 spot in the major search engines, followed by an epic struggle to stay there, many people, especially smaller companies, self-employed individuals, and REALTORS have spent vast sums of money without a clear idea about the objective. Traffic does not equal business. There are those who might disagree, but taking a shotgun approach to business isn't

websites: One of the best parts of my job... - 04/24/09 01:51 PM
I love it when a website goes live. Weeks or months of work have come to this moment. Even though the site owner(s) know what the site looks like, there is still a feeling of seeing something for the first time. The vision is a reality. I say this today because I'm proud to announce to launch of www.PattyFusco.com, the real estate site of (you guessed it) Patty Fusco. Featuring many standard "realtor" site features such as listings and MLS searches, the site also offers market analysis, trends and reports. What's more, unlike many conventional agent sites, this one is

websites: Use of the Internet for Real Estate decisions growing... - 04/16/09 10:06 AM
The Internet has become to the current generations what TV became to a generation or two back. Instant communication, a potentially large audience and (unlike TV) anyone can have a voice or become a “celebrity” of sorts, all thanks to technology. Yes, so many people are focusing everything on this still relatively new medium. Many are convinced that the Internet “is the way of the future”. To some degree, I would agree, but not completely.. According the most current Pew (www.pewinternet.org) statistics, over 70% of American adults use the Internet. Here are some interesting statistics:. 75% of Women use the Internet.

websites: So, you're thinking about a website...? - 01/13/09 08:00 PM
I'm a web designer and a good one (so I'm told). I've been building sites for a long time and I have an excellent reputation for integrity, quality and service. Here's my list of the minimum considerations or investigations you should take into account when looking at a website so you don't end up...well, you know... 1. BACKGROUND CHECK PART I How much web design experience does the company or individual have? Is experience in your industry essential? If so, do they have an expert on board? Sometimes have a little industry "insider knowledge" can help with developing ideas for your

websites: Blog or website...or both? - 01/13/09 12:39 PM
Several of my clients have raised the question of blogging recently. Concerns run the gamut from "what should I write about?" to "what it no one reads it?" Questions that I'm sure we've all asked from time to time and ones which I do my best to help them resolve. One of my clients, however, asked me about whether he should bother with a site at all and perhaps just start a blog. He's a business coach and the nature of his work and his communication frequency and style make the idea of a blog instead of a site (at least

websites: 1.5 Billion Internet Users...and Growing - 01/10/09 11:44 AM
According to the World Internet Usage Stats website, the current percentage of the world population that uses the Internet is almost 22%. The approximate world population is in the 6.5 billion range and there are almost 1.5 billion Internet users out there. I can't think of too many changes in the history of mankind that have impacted that many people so quickly, for better or worse. Less than a decade ago, the numbers were vastly different, with only 360 million Internet users. That means a four-fold increase in less than 10 years! When looking at "penetration", the total percentage of

websites: Low-Cost Website Marketing (edited) - 07/12/08 05:49 PM
I've been asked a lot questions along the lines of "how do I get more hits"...? Some tried and true methods... Tell people about your site. Put your site address in the signature of your emails. Sounds obvious, doesn't it? You'd be surprised how many people don't think about this. Be sure your site's on your business card and stationary. Use a domain name that can be remembered easily. Having a name like "thebestwebsiteforstuff.com" might sound cool but it's a bit of a mouthful. Also "stuff4u" may also sound neat, but people tend to type in web addresses the way they

websites: To web or not to web...that is the question... - 07/09/07 06:41 PM
In my role as Marketing Director, I'm often approached, somewhat gingerly, by agents who aren't always sure, but think they might need a website and if so how much will it cost etc etc. Many of the current industry magazines and newsletters encourage, in fact some almost insist, that an agent needs a website. There are pros and cons either way. In my opnion the biggest con, or I should say concern, is the lack of certainty as to what you, the agent, are getting into. The vast majority of agents I've met and worked with a self-professed novices at best
