Protection and self-defense is a topic that has been on my mind for the last three years.  Tired of saying that I was going to do something, I buckled down, did my research and heard of a place called Merchant Firearms of Chandler Blvd.

The first thing that I did was visit a gun shop in my local community of Ahwatukee (even though technically it falls under Phoenix Arizona).  When I walked in I spoke to the owner, Erin Merchant and his right hand man, Troy!  I informed them the reason as to my visit and that I was interested in perhaps purchasing a firearm.  Right away I was drawn to a glass case, and there I saw 9mm, 22’s, and that’s when I came across a .380.  It was small, but Troy took it out for me, explained how to hold it, it’s capabilities for power and protection.  I decided to go ahead and purchase the Sig Saur .380.  At Merchant Firearms, Erin and Troy ran my background check; this is where I filled out a computerized questionnaire.  After confirmation, they were able to give me the gun.

 What sets Merchant Firearms apart from most places was their personalized service.  Troy could see I was apprehensive with the purchase of my new firearm.  At that time he decided to give me information on a concealed weapons course.  This was the best step in becoming a new firearm owner.  I attended the class with an amazing teacher named “Bucky.”  The instructor was so personable, detailed and attained a history of education and experience with firearms; informing us that he teaches new gun owners gun safety and three hours worth of shooting classes.

 I will be taking more classes with my instructor to feel more at ease with my concealed weapon.  I think that you as a reader should make the choice to have a plan for any scenario we face as a realtor, single parents, the elderly, or anyone looking for a peace of mind.  Educate yourself on what type of self defense you are looking for, tasers, pepper spray or a firearm.
