Pickens County, GA, inventory of homes for sale was up over the 600 mark for the week ending 3/28/08.  On the positive side, pending sales were up as well.  (Guess I could really put a spin on the stats and say home sales were up 50% over the previous week, which would be true . . . unfortunately that 50% equates to only one additional home -- a climb from two homes placed under contract last week, to three this week.)

Just to go ahead and say it straight out . . . there ain't a whole heck of a lot to do in Pickens County, GA!  Of course, there are those social activities that exist in most communities -- rec and school sports, clubs, organizations, friends and family, but in terms of organized activities or "touristy" attractions, there just isn't a whole lot.  As the county grows this is starting to change to some degree, however, we're not likely to see a major museum, theater, or other cultural highilght open anytime soon.This isn't to say anything against the county or its populace.  It's a great place … (2 comments)

Bent Tree GA Golf Club to Host Tournament to Benefit Pickens Animal Rescue - May 7, 2008 - 03/21/08 10:33 PM
Pickens Animal Rescue will hold its fourth annual Hound Dog Golf Tournament at the Bent Tree Golf Club in Jasper, Georgia, on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, starting at 9:00 am.  Funds raised through this event go to help support the vital efforts of Pickens Animal Rescue in working with abandoned and abused animals in Pickens County.

Homes for sale in Jasper GA showed a notable climb in inventory for this past week.  With 25 homes coming on market as new listings, but only 2 houses being placed under contract, we ended the week up at 591 active listings, versus last week's 572.  Not the best news to be sharing, but those are the facts.

Dogwood Trace, Pickens Georgia: Home Listings and Sales Data for 2007 - 03/12/08 11:59 PM
Jasper Georgia's, Dogwood Trace neighborhood is a new subdivision and therefore has little historical data to analyze for past performance or future trends, however, the couple of homes that sold last year show a promising start for this new development . . . as do the additional two sales that are pending.
Going against a sizable inventory of similarly priced homes and strong competition from other comparable neighborhoods with new homes for sale(most notably, Jordan's Crossing, Wild Timber, Madison Ridge, and Grandview Cove), the short time on market and full sales price of these houses suggests appeal to a certain segment of the market.

Dogwood Trace in Jasper Georgia is one of several subdivisions offering new homes in the $300,000+ price range (sales data).  A pleasant wooded setting on acre-plus lots, and a convenient South Pickens County location, just off Highway 108 (Waleska Hwy) and close to Hwy 515, makes Dogwood Trace a suitable option for buyers in both Pickens and Cherokee County: less than ten miles to Jasper, eighteen to canton, and approximately seven to Waleska.

Ball Ground Georgia Real Estate: Small Historical Community With a Great Future - 03/09/08 03:45 PM
I think the city of Ball Ground, GA, is often overlooked as a "small" rural community, removed from the bustle of the more southerly portions of Cherokee County.  I have encountered online discussions that comment on the lack of "shopping" and "entertainment", and distance from main hubs of activity (including somewhat disparaging remarks), that imply it's not worth considering as a place to live.
And to a degree, some of the statements are true.  Ball Ground has no mall or megaplex theater or Wal-Mart.  But then again, not everyone needs those things on their doorstep -- many in fact would prefer not to … (2 comments)

Another positive move for Jasper GA pending home sales week-on-week, pushing the total number of houses under contract to a promising total of 47.  New listings on market also up, but a slight drop in overall inventory of homes for sale in Pickens County, due to expired and withdrawn listings.  Hopefully a trend that can hold . . .
