What is ALEC?
ALEC is the American Legislative Exchange Council. A "non-profit" organization consisting of thousands of political and corporate leaders who gather to jointly draft ("ghostwrite") model bills for submission by legislators at the state level.
ALEC is not some secret society. It has been around for a while and openly lists its membership and noble sounding goals on its website. But, there are those who argue that there is more than what appears on the surface. The Center for Media and Democracy, by way of PRWatch.org and corresponding wiki, AlecExposed.org have made approximately 800 of these "model" bills available for review.
