I read about getting published online a few months back and decided to give it a try.  I wrote an article about Georgia Foreclosures and the foreclosure process in Cobb County and submitted the article.  It took a few weeks to publish (probably because I cheaped out and went with a free service), but sure enough it is online.

The response is not quite as I expected.  I figured there would be a flood of traffic to my site (http://www.buyhawkeye.com), there was not.  I figured once published, I would not see anymore traffic after the supposed flood.  That was also incorrect.  Instead, it has been a slow and steady flow of traffic that has only recently begun to dry up.  Solution?  I submitted another article!

As for the quality of traffic, I still can't speak for it.  But visitors are generally a good thing so I will contine to publish the occassional article for that alone.

As always, I would love to hear from the membership of their experience in regards to article publishing.  Please comment!

I haven't seen it.  Frankly, I haven't looked.  But I was wondering, in the age of Photoshop, does anyone stage pictures of vacant properties with furniture and decor?  It seems like an obvious way of jazzing up a vacant home so that Buyers can have a better idea of what the place would look like with furniture.  Anyway, if anyone performs or utilizes these services, I would be interested in hearing about their successes.

A client just mentioned this issue to me yesterday and I happened across this article.  I am skeptical that Cobb County will be successful in the long run on this issue.  Perhaps it will serve as a cry for help for the Federal Government to straighten up it immigration policy, one way or another.

Here is a potential solution for past or present members of the armed forces looking to obtain funding for their new business.  This has plenty of potential in real estate as well as any other business you can dream up.

It is a link to the Government's Small Business Administration.

Eligible military community members include:

  • Veterans
  • Service-disabled veterans
  • Active-duty service members eligible for the military's Transition Assistance Program
  • Reservists and National Guard members
  • Current spouses of any of the above
  • The widowed spouse of a service member or veteran who died during service or of a service-connected disability
  • It might be worth a shot for qualified members looking for additional funding for their start-up companies.  Good luck!

So I think everyone was fine, but the house next to one of my listings was struck by lightening a few days ago.  It looks like the chimney exploded and the second floor is toasty.  The home should be salvageable, but it will take quite a bit of work.

Anyone have a story concerning events beyond their control affecting their ability to sell a home?  I would love to hear an "I can top that one!"

Does anybody know what this stuff means?  I find it all over the internet, but don't understand what it represents.  This came as a programmed alert for my "City" "Real Estate" search.  I suppose it is a form of keyword stuffing.  If you have any ideas, please share.

Just finished reading an article about our area concerning the long dry spell we have been enjoying (?).  As a consequence to this protracted dry period, bugs and other pests are seeking out water as their habitats dry up.  As a result, pest control services have seen as much as a 20% increase in their service calls to residences.

There are no concrete solutions, but here are a few:

    1.  Pest control services (kind of an obvious one that wasn't mentioned in the article).

    2.  Keep the area outside the home watered (preferably away from the foundation).

    3.  Install doorsweeps and ensure doors and windows are tightly sealed.

    4.  Cut back the brush away from the home to remove hiding areas.

As far as real estate sales goes, these efforts will provide multiple benefits including making the home more secure, aesthetically pleasing,  and value added by utilizing pest control services.  All good selling points.

So I knew that you couldn't place non-metered mail inside mailboxes, but I didn't know you can't post it outside as well.  The following is for your reading and trivia pleasure:

Postal regulations state under Domestic Mail Manual (DMM), section 508.3.1.3, "no part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items or matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle.  Any mailable matter not bearing postage and found as described above is subject to the same postage as would be paid if it were carried by mail."

Section 604.8.3.1 of the DMM states "Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits any mailable matter (such as statements of account, circulars, sale bills, or other like matter) on which no postage is paid, in any letterbox established, approved, or accepted by the Postmaster General for the receipt or delivery of mail matter on any route, with intent to avoid payment of lawful postage thereon, shall for each such offense be fined not more than $300 (18 USC 1725)."
