Wordless Wednesday:  When Just a Sec is Too Long
I had to run to the local market the other day, and the place was very crowded. As I was walking out of the store, I saw someone jump out of their car and head into the store. As I got closer to where he parked, I noticed his driver and passenger anxiously waiting for him to return.
Sometimes saying I'll be back in a second is an exaggeration.
Hope they didn't drive off and leave him behind.
Side Note:  The outside temps this day were in the low 50's and the sunroof and side windows … (11 comments)

photo blogging: Discovering The Fountain of Youth in St Augustine, FL - 02/20/22 05:13 AM
Discovering The Fountain of Youth in St Augustine, FL
Ponce de Leon arrived from Spain in 1513 seeking wealth for Spain.  Because of the colorful vegetation and flowers, he saw, he named the area, La Florida.
Ponce heard of the Indian legend about a spring that was said to exist on the island of Bimini and a river, in what became known as Florida that would restore youth to those who bathed in their waters. Ponce’s quest was not to settle the new land, but to explore for gold and riches.
Within the exhibit there are representations of the way of life in those … (20 comments)

Sunrise At A Volcano  Haleakala Maui
Some years back, while on a vacation to the Hawaiian Islands we got up in the middle of the night to make the zig-zag drive to the rim of the Haleakala Volcano, a dormant area to see the sunrise.
We were forewarned to dress warmly as it was in the high 30's at the summit of the volcano. As the hues to the clouds started to change colors, we were rewarded for our patience.

We stayed up a couple of hours just to appreciate the views and it was as if we were on a lunar escape with the … (31 comments)

photo blogging: Driving Off into the Sunset After a Pleasant Visit - 03/05/17 06:34 PM
We have spent a few days in Hilton Head SC getting a jump on spring and me a few days on a golf course.  While coming back over the bridge that span the Inter-coastal Waterway near Hilton Head, I stopped at the top of the bridge to get a last glimpse of the sunset colors.

It was a fun few days but we are still looking for a few better before we get back north.

photo blogging: Enjoying the Scenery of Rhodes Greece Throwback Thursday - 12/22/16 05:33 PM
With a little bit of time on my hands, I have been looking through some of our stacks of vacation photos.  My files fr Greece are hard to resist and based on a comment made by Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905  on my last post, I had to find this set.
While we were n Greece, we decided to take an island cruise on a small passenger ship.  The Stella Maris which can get into shallow draft harbors as it only takes 175 passengers.  We sailed right up to the docs on Mykonos, Lindos, Rhodes and in Turkey to get to Ephesus.

photo blogging: Signs in A Restaurant Don't Fear the Food - 03/05/16 09:12 PM
Family Restaurants try to encourage their patrons to relax with their meals. Such is the case with the wall decorations at The Village Inn Family Restaurant in Orlando FL.  The signs around the dining room caught attention and had a tone of humor that was pleasant.

The Village Inn Family Restaurant is part of a chain that has its roots in Colorado.  The service was excellent; the restarant was clean and the food cameout promptly and was cooked to order.  The Village Inn is known for their fantastic pies, that are fresh baked on premises.  Be sure to go there on Wednesdsay as that … (19 comments)

photo blogging: Sunday Photos Can a Vacation Really Be too Much of a Tease - 12/05/15 11:42 PM
As I walked out to grab the papers this morning it was very apparent that we are in New England.  The chill was in the air, and the frost left a thick white coating on the lawn and trees.  It was less than a month ago that we were on Vacation in Nevada and the colors were noticeably different.

I didn't have my camera with me to take a hoto of our frost, and as it was so cold, I wasn't going back out to take it.  Neither did I want that permant rreminder of whats coming.

Theme to My Business:  With a Nikon by my Side, it’s Kodachrome
Kathleen Daniels is the hostess for the current December Challenge to Theme our 2013 Business with a song. Being appreciative of music, but not knowing the words to what currently is called music, I felt I was at a loss. Try driving around, doing your job while reflecting on the activities that were mainstream to your thoughts for the entire year. It was difficult, until I realized what I was doing on a cool snowy morning. The reality of my year fell upon me immediately.

A Late Summer Sunset in Waterbury CT
Everyone has to get sunsets, but the type of terrain we live in may not always allow for those spectacular shots. We were fortunate this past Friday evening to be in just the right spot.
On a hill at the apex of East Mountain, we were attending an evening wedding reception at a new banquet facility that just opened. The views of Waterbury were exceptional and I shall venture up there to take additional photos as the seasons allow.
While enjoying a few treats and libations, I glanced to the Horizon almost a hair too … (8 comments)

There's Nothing More Graceful than Swans on a Lake
Hanover Lake is in the South Meriden CT area. As I was driving back from a showing, I noticed large white objects just bobbing along on the lake''s surface. I stopped at a light and it allowed me time to get a closer look.

I stopped at the edge of the lake, and there were cars of people throwing food out for the birds, and no signs requesting that they not do so, so the birds were not native to the lake, but having shelter and food, see no reason to … (6 comments)

My Early Morning Coffee Companion

I have a routine of drinking my morning coffee while sitting near the windows at the kitchen table. These windows look onto the front yard and the bird feeders just outside.
Lately, I've had a breakfast companion that has stated to respond to my good mornings with his own chirping, and doesn't seem to be scared at all.

He comes to the basket of suet often and won't let any other birds stop while he's there. He has to be almost a foot tall and I certainly wouldn't want him to use that beak … (10 comments)

ActiveRain Winter Meet-Up in Wilton CT . . The Family Had Fun
It’s not only the Christmas Season, but also the time of year for Meet-Ups. Once again Dagny Eason opened up her house for her extended family of fellow ActiveRain bloggers and a few prospects as well.

Here, our hostess, Dagny takes a moment from her reverie to pose with  David Brand of Ridgefield, who will be encouraged to become a Rainer.
All were invited and for those that attended, a request was made to bring a food item for the family table. We had a full, well balanced … (12 comments)

photo blogging: Photos Then and Now, Things Haven't Changed That Much - 11/27/12 11:07 AM
Photos Then and Now, Things Haven't Changed That Much My career in real estate is not one of long tenure, as I got my real estate license in 2004 and my brokers license in 2006. I am a RE/MAX agent from day one, probably a thing that goes back to being a child and wanting balloons.

I did not use my photo in my initial marketing and it was in 2006, when I opened my own brokerage that I started to use a photo.  Very corporate, taken by a professional photographer. This was ideal for recognition especially as a compliment to the … (14 comments)

The Distractions during My Morning Walk   . . . Friday Photos I scurried out this morning for a walk before my wife woke up. I thought I would take an exercise walk just because. The temperature home is a balmy 26F, my walk was in a slightly better 28C with a brisk breeze as well.
I had some wonderful scenery along the walk, with not a bit of snow to distract.

It was such a pleasant experience and I could blame anything I didn't so well on the location. Reality is a wonderful place to escape from … (13 comments)

photo blogging: Sunrise on Lockwood Pond Watertown CT - 10/09/12 09:24 PM
Sunrise on Lockwood Pond  Watertown CT I was at Crestbrook Park in Watertown, early one morning and the sunrise coming over the hills started to illuminate the trees on the west bank of Lockwood Pond.

The eastern bank was still covered in darkness, which made for an interesting difference to the view.

There was no wind and if I had enough elevation, I might have been able to get the tree's reflections in the water. As it is, the view just deserved some attentionView Larger MapAt the entrance to the park is a large parking area, and a ramp for … (15 comments)

photo blogging: Fire in the Sky . . . Sunday Photos - 09/16/12 03:32 AM
Fire in the Sky . . . Sunday Photos On my drive to Sunday services this morning, I had to stop and take a photo of the morning sunrise. I was running a bit late so I couldn’t get the full pop-up, however, the first rays coming over the horizon hit just the right angle off the high clouds to give the illusion of the shade of red that often come out of a fire place.

photo blogging: A Full Moon at Sunrise and The Sky was Just Perfect - 09/02/12 03:38 AM
A Full Moon at Sunrise and The Sky was Just Perfect As I left the house this morning, I caught a glimpse of the moon just shining in the sky. We had just had a full blue moon, and the conditions were ideal for a morning moon. As I reached an area where the trees were less dense, I got a much clearer view of the moon, which I share here.

As I turned and faced in the opposite direction I was able to see the start of the colors of sunrise.

In a little bit, the sun will … (11 comments)

Super Sized Red Flowers .. . . Sunday Photos
I saw these bright red flowers out side a business here in Prospect CT, and just had to stop and take a closer look. The were so bright.
The owner came over to ask what I was doing and when I explained and asked him what they were, he happily obliged.

They are a hearty Hibiscus, and these particular flowers had a bloom span of almost 12 inches across, which was probably the largest one I had ever seen.

Sunday Photos A Cheery Way to Bring a Smile As I was driving up Rt 68 in Prospect CT this morning, a stretch of road just made me pause, as it appeared that there were people waving at me.  As I got closer, I realized it wasn't people, but a large crop of sunflowers just smiling at whomever was passing.

The were all facing towards the sun, which is what sunflowers will do. Through the course of the day, they seek the brightness. It is a cheerful way to line a road.

Wordless Wednesday, (Almost)  A Sunset to Make Me Stop
As I was making my way home this evening, after a particularly testing day, hungry and just a touch irritable, I looked towards the horizon at just the right time to allow for a quick view and to crack a smile.
I pulled over and took the photo of an almost perfect sunset. The sky was brilliant with the reds and it was so peaceful and pleasant to see.
Maybe it wasn't such a bad day after all.
