spring flowers: The Azaleas Are in Bloom in Prospect CT - 05/18/13 08:04 PM
The Azaleas Are in Bloom in Prospect CT   As we get into spring, every day is a day of anticipation for the colors around us. I glanced up our front walk and the colors were fresh. Our azaleas are in bloom.

The laurel in the back are a bit more shaded so they will be out a little later and our Rhododendrons are ready to sprout shortly as well. We have color almost always from Late April to early October. We didn't do it ourselves, bit we try to maintain it.

spring flowers: Waterbury CT Tulip Festival May 5 at Fulton Park - 05/02/13 06:07 AM
Waterbury CT Tulip Festival May 5 at Fulton Park It may not be Holland as in the Netherlands, or Holland as in Michigan, but the tulips will look the same and the appreciation for their colors will be just as strong.

Sunday May 5 from 11 AM to 4 PM is the 3rd Annual Tulip Festival at Fulton Park in Waterbury CT. Volunteers have been planting the beds that scatter through the ark with bulbs so that their blossoms can be appreciated by all. This year’s organizers are hoping to see 600-700 people stroll the grounds.

spring flowers: Spring Finally Made it to My Little Piece of the World - 05/01/13 06:04 AM
Spring Finally Made it to My Little Piece of the World As I came home yesterday afternoon, I was took a few moments to appreciate the blooms that are up in the yard. Evidence has been there, but with a sunny sky, it was just more pronounced here in Prospect CT.

We have a lot of flower beds, and many flowering trees around the yard, and they are all in proud display. Not to be overlooked, however, the yard has also given me it's sign that the grass needs to be mowed as well.  I guess I have to take … (7 comments)

spring flowers: It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Spring in Central CT - 04/21/13 03:10 AM
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Spring in Central CT
As I was returning from showings Saturday afternoon, I had to stop to just appreciate the tree on someone's front lawn.

From where I was I didn't want top be presumptuous and walk up to it, but it looked a lot like a dogwood tree. We have had a terrible, cold rainy spring and this with the daffodils is just a welcome sight

spring flowers: The Spring Tulips are all out and They Are Splendid - 04/29/12 03:43 AM
The Spring Tulips are all out and They Are Splendid
We had a very mild winter but it was still typical with the long nights and the drab days. Spring has been wonderful even though we have a touch of cool currently, but the tulips have decided to make their presence known.

While taking a quick walk through Fulton Park this week, I was able to see some of the tulip beds that are scattered about the park.
Find the time to stop by this Sunday to see the flowers, and maybe grab a plastic bag … (16 comments)

spring flowers: The Trees that Bloom in the Spring . . . Are Here - 04/10/12 05:23 AM
The Trees that Bloom in the Spring . . . . Are Here!
They’re here,  they’re here!
The yard is blooming and shining for spring. We have several flowering trees in the year, the first to bloom are always the dogwood and the weeping cherry, and they are in full splendor.

The dogwood is right at the top of the driveway, and as our dinner guests came in on Easter Sunday they were greeted by both the dogwood and the cherry.

A blaze of color and scent to greet all, and to share with my ActiveRain friends … (18 comments)

spring flowers: The Flowers That Bloom in The Spring at Crestbrook Park Watertown CT - 03/25/12 09:45 AM
The Flowers That Bloom in the Spring at Crestbrook Park Watertown CT
This morning was the official Kick-Off Breakfast for the Golf Season at Crestbrook Park in Watertown CT.
The entrance to the park was brightly shining even though the weather was overcast and drizzly rain. Must be an omen of a grand season at Crestbrook Park, and the good times the golfers will enjoy this year.

spring flowers: It's a Small Sign, But it's Officially Spring - 04/28/11 01:34 PM
It's a Small Sign, But it's Officially Spring
To a first observation, it's a front yard. The daffodils have sprouted, the flox is starting to flower, and the first signs of leaves are starting to emerge.
No For Sale, sign, just a photo, but to me it's been long overdue.

See, the last time I had this part of the yard online, it looked like this, with almost 18" of snow cover on the ground.
So yesterday, I mowed the yard for the first time this year. As it was recently fertilized, and it's warm and rainy now, I … (15 comments)

spring flowers: The Flowers of Spring, in the Nederlands Sunday Photos - 04/03/11 07:07 AM
The Flowers of Spring, in the Nederlands  Sunday Photos What can be more beautiful that this?
At first glance, it looks like a giant child armed with a box of crayons has been set loose upon the landscape. Vivid stripes of purple, yellow, red, pink, orange and green make up A glorious patchwork. Yet far from being a child's sketchbook, this is, in fact, the northern Netherlands in the middle of tulip season.
The Dutch landscape in May is a kaleidoscope of color as the tulips burst into life. The bulbs are planted in late October and early November.  More than … (16 comments)

spring flowers: The flowers are so confused, it's supposed to be Spring! - 03/24/11 12:50 PM
The flowers are so confused, it's supposed to be Spring!

The flowers in the yard are in a bit of a shock. Last Saturday they were enjoying 70 degree weather, and then there was the threat of as much as 6" of snow. We got just a 1" dusting, but that didn't help the yard flowers to feel any better.
Nor did I, today was supposed to be the opening day at the golf course, and we were set to go, even allowing some time for some lost productivity this afternoon.
I couldn't even bear to take a drive … (12 comments)

spring flowers: I Needed a Touch of Spring, So I went out to find some!! - 02/13/11 07:56 AM
I Needed a Touch of Spring, So I went out to find some!!
It's almost mid February here in Central CT and the snow has been horrible.
I just needed to go find a touch of color other than white or brownish white, but where to go?
Then I caught a thought, lets take a trip to the farms. The bedding farms that is.
Cheshire CT is know as the bedding center of Connecticut, and that has nothing to do with taking a nap.
Some of the largest bedding farms or factory green houses are located in Cheshire CT, most … (18 comments)
