sunday photos: When Creativity Imitates Life One can Only be Amazed - 05/20/12 05:04 AM
When Creativity Imitates Life One can Only be Amazed While traveling through the Ct airport at Bradley Field recently, I came upon a piece of work that forced me to stop and admire the creativity. It was a table sized replica of the Mark Twain house in Hartford Ct, made entirely of Legos.

Connecticut is the US home for Lego Systems, US, and as a way of showcasing two of our prominent entities; someone took a great deal of time and effort to assemble the scale model.

Samuel Clemens, more commonly known as Mark Twain enjoyed his most prolific … (13 comments)

Don't You Think the Water is a Little Cold?

While showing properties earlier today, I passed by a pond that should have been well frozen over by now. We’ve had such a mild winter so far that, anyone thinking of ice fishing has had to wait or just go further north. This time last year we were into such a deep freeze that those geese would have been on top of feet of snow atop an ice capped lake.

The geese in the middle of the water don’t seem to mind a bit and with no ice … (8 comments)

Sunrise in Waterbury CT . .Sunday Photos While on my way to get my Sunday exercise, I stopped to try and get a photo of the Waterbury CT Landscape at first light. The most prominent landmark is the Clock Tower of the local newspaper, the Waterbury Rep-AM.
It wasn't the best of locations, as I had to stop on an exit ramp and try to get below the power lines. I couldn't stay as long as I would have liked because of the CT State Trooper that stopped behind me to get me moving off the exit ramp.

An Afternoon at Chatham Point, in Cape Cod Ma . . Sunday Photos We took advantage of the long weekend and ran out to Cape Cod, Ma to 'chill'. Whie having breakfast , we were told about the seals that frequent the fishing pier in Chatham, so off we went to see the show.
While there we not only saw the seals and their antics, but also saw the lobster boats coming un to unload their cargo, and a fishing shuttler that also came in to unload the catch of the larger boats that were still out.

Mums the Word, at Least for This time of Year . . . Sunday Photos Many of the flowers of summer are getting into their final colors as it won't be very long before the temps start to drop and kill them off. It is the time of year for the Mums to come out, Chrysanthemums, that is.
Living in the Cheshire CT area affords us colors that most people may see, just not in as large an amount.

Cheshire CT is home to some every large bedding farms, and their sprays of colors are always a delight to … (10 comments)

Early Morning Buffet. Let's Hope the Owner Doesn't See Us . . . . Sunday Photo
I was heading off to the golf course early this morning, when a movement caught my attention. I slowed the car down and saw these guys working in the shrubs in the front yard of this house. Before I could get the camera phone out, one bolted around the house, but the other one decided to stay and ham it up a bit. Someone will be wondering why the trees are losing their leaves so early.

sunday photos: A Spray of Color all Alone . . Sunday Photos - 09/04/11 05:55 AM
A Spray of Color all Alone  . . Sunday Photos Along a boundary area of rhodendra and junipers I had planted a dozen dwarf rose bushes, called Meiderlander Roses. They needed little attention and would keep their flowers a long time. Most of the bushes had died.
As I spent all of Saturday catching up on long postponed yard work, I was taken by a spray of color amongst a wall of green. One of the Meiderlander bushes had blossomed.

It didn't finish the work for me, but gave me just enough of a spark to get me to … (8 comments)

Sunday Photos . . While the wind howls and the Rain Pours down
The Northeast area is getting the brunt of Hurricane Irene. The winds howled all night, and already some roads are closed, people are without power and the first fatality in CT was here in Prospect CT, a house fire as a result of a downed power line. There will be a lot of damage, and a lot of photo opportunities.

Pictures, like this, only with slightly better focus are common in rainstorms.

The Insurance companies are also going to be out in force over the next … (20 comments)

sunday photos: It's Not Solitude, but Oh So Peaceful. Sunday Musing - 08/21/11 04:07 PM
It's Not Solitude, but Oh So Peaceful!
I enjoy the game of golf, and I play early in the day so that I don't lose work time. We played Sunday morning, and although we had no rain the night before, there was a heavy dew from the temperature change from yesterday, and an early morning haze that would eventually clear up for a wonderful day of rest.
As my crew started off, I just had to linger behind and take a shot. It was just a peaceful looking scene, and I was the only one on the green.

Within the Walk, A Field of Color
I was invited to play along with a few friends at a golf course in Central CT. The course was interesting and there were some well laid out plantings to match the fairways.
As I approached a tee, I was taken by a blaze of yellow alongside the tee box. Obviously years of growth had made a rather picturesque border.
This patch of black eyed susans just stood out amongst all the green of the course. Just a little life, and I also mad par on the hole.

Can you ever be Too Young to Learn?  . . . Sunday Photos This weekend we had the Traveler's Championship here in Cromwell. It was a real shoot out as the young pros from all over the world came in for a tune-up maybe in advance of the British Open in 2 weeks. Or just to take advantage of the big first prize and the bigger named golfers are not here.
Golf is not an easy game to learn and even more difficult to master. It takes a lot of focus and dedication. A lot of time, and a lot of instructions.

sunday photos: Teamwork is How Work Gets Done More Efficiently . . . Sunday Photos - 05/22/11 02:35 PM
Teamwork is How Work Gets Done More Efficiently . . . Sunday Photos It's no secret that the more people working together the quicker a job gets done. Being part of a team means everyone working towards a common goal, and doing it more efficiently. With any team there are always those that might take a little break from time to time, but the more industrious of the team keep laboring along picking up for the slacker.

Here, our grandson Raphael, thought he would help me sweep off the deck. He ultimately got impatient with my talking on the phone … (12 comments)

Sunday Photos . . It's Spring and the little ones are starting to move about
As I made the drive into Crestbrook Park this morning in a misty, drizzly fog, this Canadian geese couple were watching the little ones. They've been moving around for a couple of weeks now, and getting strong and bigger by the day.
It didn't matter to them that it had rained all night, and was raining when I took this photo.

We get at least one set of geese hatch-lings a year at the course, which is surprising as there are always many geese about. … (14 comments)

Where the Buffalo Roam in Connecticut . . . Sunday Photos When our country was young, Buffalo roamed the western plains in very large herds. They were the primary source of food for the Indians and their hide were prized and collected to make fashionable coats and hats.
They were almost hunted out of existence. It was quite a surprise to me recently to be driving along a road and see a couple of buffalo just grazing in a pasture here in Connecticut.

sunday photos: Sunday Photos . . There's just Too Much Snow!!! - 02/06/11 10:25 PM
Sunday Photos . . There's just Too Much Snow!!! I was going to have a cup of coffee in our sun room this morning, but the 3 feet of snow on the deck was just too depressing to stare at, especially with more coming this week. Winter has been cruel this year.

So back to the computer I go, but not to work. I did a bit of searching and came up with the cost on the Eastern end of Barbados, a much more pleasant view. I do hope that ground hog was right, I can hardly wait to mow … (29 comments)

Sunday Photo . . . Help, I'm Stuck in Here!!

It's no secret we've had a lot of snow, and it started very early in the year. We've had almost 60" of snow so far this month. Many decorations are buried under the depth of snow.
As I was driving around yesterday, I came across this front yard scene. It's too bad the snow's so deep, as I would have liked to have seen some creative kids put a couple of smaller snowman around this one trying to pull it out.

sunday photos: Sunday Photos . . Sunrise Above The Clouds . . Hawaiian Style - 12/05/10 09:19 AM
While looking for one of those Kodak Moments, I came across some vacation photos and in particular, a photo of a sunrise, above the clouds. We had been to Hawaii, and spent some time on Maui. There is no such thing as a bad vacation or bad weather in Hawaii.
Like all tourists, we decided one morning, actually I did and my companion agreed to come along, to get up and see the sunrise from the highest point on the island.
Getting up at 3;30 in the morning, we made the drive, along with so many others, tour buses included so … (9 comments)

sunday photos: Sunday Photos . . . A Bahamian Sunset - 11/14/10 03:42 PM
We didn't have the best location on the island to take photos of a sunset being on the southeast side. We were able to get into a high enough elevation one night to see the sunset set on the western horizon.
There were just enough clouds and moisture in the sky to give us that Oooh and Aahh moment. I share with you.

sunday photos: This area is not Zoned for Cluster homes . . . Sunday Photos - 10/03/10 04:25 PM
As real estate agents we understand the necessity of respecting zoning in order to preserve the values of homes, and also to prevent homeowners from creating a burden on the resources available on a given plot of land. This is more critical where homes are serviced by wells and septic systems.
Also being a real estate agent, with a reasonably good sized property, I need to make sure that I do not get unwanted squatters trying to move in and take over a portion of my property.

Last year I noticed that a bird had created a home in one … (17 comments)

sunday photos: Everybody knows that Wood can change shape when it dries out. - 08/29/10 05:57 AM
If you have ever gone into a lumber yard you may have seen people picking up framing lumber and trying to sight edge them looking for curvature, or more precisely lack of curvature. This is in the belief that when they use the lumber, there will be less likelihood that the wood will turn when used and not have nails popping and damaging a finished product.
Experienced builders will opt for kiln dried lumber, which has already had the majority of moisture removed by 'baking' the wood slowly at controlled temperatures.
While driving home today, I noticed a bit of curvature … (13 comments)
