thanksgiving: Thanksgiving 2023 A Day of Celebration - 11/23/23 03:20 AM
Thanksgiving 2023  A Day of Celebration
There is a reason that the Thanksgiving holiday is the heaviest travel time of the year. People want to go 'home' to celebrate the holiday with family and close friends.
It's not about the meal, although it is special. It's about being close to those special people in or lives and enjoying a laugh or a tear as it has been a while.
The issues of life can be severe and being able to sit and enjoy the rewards that we worked so hard to obtain.
However, you may spend the day, I hope that it will bring smiles … (22 comments)

thanksgiving: Things I Am Thankful For:  Family - 11/25/21 05:41 AM
Things I Am Thankful For:  Family
The holidays are all about enjoying the company of those we hold dear, our family and occasionally a few close friends that are like family. As we sit down to enjoy the meal prepared with a lot of effort and love today in our households we will have 4 generations at the tables.
Mom and Dad will feed themselves and know the names at everyone at the table. No small feat for a couple whose combined ages total 200. My soul mate, Cauna, will be somewhere near me as we enjoy a Thanksgiving celebration for our 34th … (15 comments)

thanksgiving: Thanksgiving 2020 a Very Special Day of Gratitude - 11/26/20 06:24 AM
Thanksgiving 2020  a Very Special Day of Gratitude

In this year of fear and illness it is especially appropriate for u to feel the gratitude for the good fortune that has come our way these past months.  I am very grateful that I not only have this day with my family but also that I know of no one that has gotten the virus.
I am so grateful for the woman that has shared my life with me these past 33 years and for the love and comfort we share together.
I am grateful and blessed that we have my parents at our dinner … (12 comments)

thanksgiving: Thanksgiving A Celebration of Peace and Friendship - 11/28/19 06:15 AM
Thanksgiving A Celebration of Peace and Friendship

The first feast of Thanksgiving took place hundreds of years ago to celebrate the harvest that year and also to define the peace that had been earned between the immigrants from across the big waters and the original Natives of this land.
As we sit to celebrate the bounty this day, we will be thankful for all that have come to enjoy the day and if appropriate hold a moment for those that are missing.
Our family will be complete again today so for us there is much for which to be Thankful.

To my extended family of  friends … (5 comments)

thanksgiving: Thanksgiving 2018: I'm Just Thankful - 11/22/18 08:55 AM
I'm Just Thankful

As we enjoy this Thanksgiving Day we are all, hopefully, appreciative of the blessings we have for ourselves and our families and friends.

I have much for which I am truly Thankful:

I am Thankful that I can enjoy the day.
I am Thankful for my wife Cauna who shares life with me.
I am Thankful for the people I call friends and for those that call me a friend as well.
I am Thankful for the memories of those that I have lost.
I am Thankful for the joy I get with our grandsons.

I am thankful that the table this year will have all … (12 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful for Leftovers Season of Gratitude - 11/24/16 05:39 PM
We had a house full of people for Thanksgiving dinner today, and all enjoyed the meal and of course the deserts.  My wife cooked up a feast starting with a 20 pound fresh turkey, with all the trimmings: stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rice, fresh cranberry sauce, vegetables, mushroom gravy and salad.
All had there fill and maybe even a touch too much.  A few took some home for a snack or maybe a quick lunch tomorrow.  After all had left, I surveyed what was still left behind, and had a large smile on my face.  While I couldn't put another bite into my … (11 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful for the Special People that Share my Life - 11/24/16 06:47 AM
On this thanksgiving Day, I sit with a smile on my face as my partner/friend/love/wife enjoys a cup of coffee with me as well.  We all have had issues with life that have created twists and turns we could have done without.  Some of those, however were critical in order to achieve the plan that has been pre-determined for us. For what ever you have in your life, today, be thankful for no one knows what tomorrow will bring.
As we gather later today, we will have close family and friends.  For anther year, we will have my parents with us, and healthy and able to enjoy the meal … (11 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful That I Can Call Myself an American - 11/23/16 06:21 AM
There is no accounting for where one has been born.  It is another of the mysteries of life. As humans, we all strive. or attempt to, make the most of where we live to survive. There are very few places in the world, however, where one has unlimited opportunities available to them as we do here in the United States.
So many people in the world will live a life and not know even the minutest bit of freedom that we can so often take for granted.
I am so grateful for the good fortune that I was born in America. I have family … (8 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful for the House We Call Home - 11/22/16 07:01 PM
When we bought our current house, we were looking for many things that would add comfort to our life and give us the amenities we sought.  At the time, I was not in the real estate business so the uniqueness of our home has gotten new meaning over the years.
Our house has become the focal point for all family gatherings.  We have celebrated he holidays, there have been bridal and baby showers; a few anniversaries  and numerous birthday parties.
Had we tried to build this home, we could not have come close to reaching anything similar of r anywhere close to what we paid for it at the time.  Over the years, … (30 comments)

thanksgiving: Season of Gratitude, I'm Thankful To Be in Real Estate - 11/21/16 09:30 AM
Season of Gratitude, I'm Thankful To Be in Real Estate
WE are in the month, when many reflect on their good fortune and show appreciation for the blessings that have been bestowed on them so far. While I have many things for which I am grateful, one blessing that I currently enjoy is to be in the business of real estate.
I got into the business due to burn out from my previous career. The travel was getting to be too much and the quality of life created by being away so much was a danger to my health and happiness.  Money cannot … (6 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful to Have My Grandsons - 11/20/16 02:58 AM
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I have to include my 2 grandsons, even if a later post will be for the family. They are special to me as they bring me a joy that I had never expected to have as I have no children of my own. In them, I get to appreciate the opportunity to spend time with someone who's lifestyle and future I have a chance to mold, hopefully to a positive.
The eldest is Grandson Nicholas, Nick.  He is the son of my wife's son, who died when Nicholas was only 18 months old.  We did not always have … (9 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful That I have Learned the Game of Golf - 11/19/16 11:15 AM
Next April, I will celebrate 55 years of playing the game of golf.  It is not a game that appeals to all, but for those that do attempt to play, it can be quite frustrating and still pleasurable.
My very first set of clubs were given to me on my birthday, and my parents bought them with the stash of S & H green stamps we had buried in a cupboard.  They are still buried away in my basement, needing just new grips and a thorough cleaning to be usable although not quite to current design standards.
For me, it is a way of stress relief combined with my exercise.  I am … (4 comments)

thanksgiving: Thankful to Just Be Here and Healthy - 11/16/16 09:56 AM
It is the season to give thanks and for me it starts with the reality of just being here and healthy.  Back in the early 1980's, I was faced with a decision regarding my health that could have left me completely incapacitated or even worse.
I was fortunate to have excellent doctors and came through my travails a different person and can honestly say it changed my life focus.
I made decisions that no one in their early 30's should have to make, which resulted in a complete change in lifestyle, work prospects, and even a change in my marital status.
I became more appreciative of the things I have around me, family, … (6 comments)

thanksgiving: Thanksgiving 2015 No one left Hungry - 11/26/15 09:06 AM
Thanksgiving at the Silva Household
All of the major holidays are centered for our family at our house.  Its been this way for over 20 years. This year we had a few extra as one of my nieces brought her finance and his family.
While the table seats enough, we choose to keep the food in the kitchen and let it be served buffet style.
The meal consisted of the turkey, a 24 lb bird; mashed potatoes and gravy; home made stuffing; rice; sweet potatoes, green beans; fresh made cranberry sauce; salad.
It was a meal that lasted for almost 2 hours and enough turkey was consumed … (24 comments)

thanksgiving: Happy Thanksgiving, I do it Because There’s the Love - 11/27/13 10:06 PM
Happy Thanksgiving, I do it Because There’s the Love
It’s Thanksgiving Day here in Prospect CT, as well as the rest of the country. People are getting ready to attend the rivalry Thanksgiving Day Football games, or to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade either in person or on the TV.

Others are busy with their food preparations so that when all arrive for dinner, the meal will be laid out and just about ready to enjoy. In our house as with so many others across the country, it’s been a busy week of preparation. Menu’s prepared, shopping done, and then … (15 comments)

thanksgiving: What I Have in My Life For Which I Am Grateful . . . DocuSign Contest - 11/21/11 11:27 PM
What I Have in My Life For Which I Am Grateful We are rapidly reaching a time of year that is often very festive for the Holidays and the extra time we have for ourselves. It is also a time of reflection and to be thankful for the positives in our lives or for the way we were able to overcome some of the negatives in our lives.
Like so many of us, I have had issues in my life that were life altering but with some family support and common sense, and a bit of good luck, I have managed to … (15 comments)

thanksgiving: Foraging for Food on Thanksgiving Morning . . . 21st Century Style - 11/26/10 01:44 AM
Foraging for Food on Thanksgiving Morning . . . 21st Century Style It was a tradition started hundreds of years ago when the first colonists landed on our shores. It was a harsh experience, the few amenities and luxuries that were available to them at the time were left behind in their European homes. In the New World, they needed to survive on what they could grow or hunt. After their first year in the New World, the colonists gather together in a common meal to give thanks for their presence and to share with each other.
This same tradition has … (6 comments)

thanksgiving: My Be Thankful Summary - - - It is no Challenge - 11/24/10 12:21 AM
Earlier this month, Lisa Lambert, posted a blog offering that she would submit a post of Thanksgiving, everyday until Thanksgiving. I didn't trace backwards early enough to get involved, so I am doing a bit of reflection this morning on the last day before we all give thanks.
There are so many things that we can all be thankful for. As for me:
I am thankful that I made it through this trying year with all my health I am thankful that I have my friend, companion, wife, Cauna at my side I am thankful that as we sit down to … (10 comments)
