It's Showtime for College Basketball and Connecticut is Ready
It is almost impossible for anybody to not know what the term March Madness means. If you don't know, then it is the zaniness and the competition of the best in men's and women's basketball competing over 4 weeks to determine the National Champion.
The games start tonight in Las Vegas for the men, and on Friday the start for the women in Seattle. These dates are for the UConn men and women. All are competing in a win or go home to see who will play for the National Championship next weekend.

uconn basketball: UConn Women Win Their 11th NCAA Basketball Championship - 04/06/16 11:50 AM
Can Excellence Really Be a Bad Thing?
For fans and followers of the women's basketball tournament the results were as expected and for many as hoped. The UConn women's basketball team won their 4th straight tournament championship, which was also their 11th National championship in the last 20 years.
This puts this dynasty of amateurs in a very select group for team sports. There are many people that believe this much success is bad for the sport. Just like the NY Yankees with their winning ways of 28 championships would have been bad for baseball, but like the Yankees did with buying their … (8 comments)

uconn basketball: The NCAA College Basketball Season is Coming to a Close - 04/06/14 01:23 PM
The NCAA Basketball Finals are Set and Connecticut is Standing Tall
March Madness is coming to a close and there are 2 principal games left for both the men and the women. Monday night the men's final is being played with Kentucky playing UConn.
The following night the women's final has Notre Dame playing UConn in a battle between undefeated teams. Notre Dame has had UConn's number the past few years so that game will be a real battle.
The men's game has the young team of All Americans from Kentucky playing a seasoned team in UConn with probably the best pair … (7 comments)

uconn basketball: March Goes Out With Madness so April Can Come in With the Results - 03/30/14 11:30 AM
The 2014 Final 4 Teams are Set
The field of 68 has been reduced to the Final 4, with the semi-final games set for April 5 and the finals on Monday April 7.

It is no surprise to many that the overall #1 seed in the tournament, Florida, made the finals but after that the rest of the teams bring some real bracket busters. From out of the east region, the UConn Huskies advanced beating a bg favorite, Michigan State. So sorry Pres Obama.
From the Midwest region, Kentucky advances where either Michigan or Louisville were favorites.
Wisconsin from the … (8 comments)

uconn basketball: NCAA 2014 Tournament There was a Party at The Garden - 03/28/14 12:30 PM
2014 NCAA Basketball Tournament
The NCAA basketball tournament is upon us. It is a tournament of win and advance and for the UConn men, there was a party at The Garden. With a strong victory against Iowa State winning 81-76, UConn will advance to the round of the Elite 8 and will play again on Sunday against either Michigan State or Virginia. Both are tough teams, but if UConn plays with the same heart they've had the first 3 games, dreams can come to reality.

uconn basketball: NCAA National Champions, 2011 UConn Huskies . . . The Last Team Standing - 04/05/11 12:24 AM
NCAA National Champions, 2011 UConn Huskies . . . The Last Team Standing
At the beginning of the season, they were given little chance of doing anything but having a mediocre season. They returned 2 seniors, only one saw any real court time, a junior, and a cast of youth. The team grew up quickly, as they started their season with a fluke, at the time, win in the Maui Invitational with wins over Wichita St, Michigan St, and Kentucky.
Into the season, where they continued to win until they hit the Big East Schedule, where they were a .500 … (14 comments)

uconn basketball: There's Going to be a Dog Fight in Houston--NCAA National Championship Game - 04/04/11 12:50 AM
There's Going to be a Dog Fight in Houston--NCAA National Championship Game
Sixty eight teams, played 64 games to get the last two standing.
The UConn Huskies from Storrs, CT will play the Butler Bulldogs of Indianapolis, IN to determine the 2011 National Champions. This can be the 3rd National Championship for UConn. For Butler, it can be a cause for redemption, as they played in the same game last year losing to Duke.
It should be a competitive game, with the experience edge going to Butler, as they have 3 starters on the team that played in this same game last … (8 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: The Elite 8 Match-ups
The weekend games were tight and the battles expected from the field of 16 finalists. Eight were eliminated, and some didn't give up without a fight.
On to the Elite 8. Now the games will get tighter and will be better contested. Coaches believe that these are the toughest games to win and that once in the Final 4 they might be a bit easy. These games have all National Title winners playing, so all the coaches know how to get to the Final 4, and will be coaching and urging their … (2 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: The Round of Sweet 16, Day 2
The brackets are getting depleted, and there are 4 games left to set up the Elite 8 for Monday and Tuesday night.
Tennessee will face Notre Dame on one side of the Elite 8, with their eye on next weekend's Final 4 match ups in Indianapolis
Gonzaga will face Stanford on the other side of that bracket.
The Sunday matches are below

My picks in these match-ups are Connecticut, DePaul. Texas A & M and Baylor. We'll see later how they fared.

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Continues: Time for the Elite 8
The games tonight and tomorrow will set the stage for culmination weekend and the Final 4. The last eight standing, and presumably the best of the rest all looking for a spot in the big game on Monday Night, The National Championship Game. Many of us are anxiously waiting to see who Conn will be playing.
The first 2 games last night went the way one would expect the games to go, with the lower seeds going down to the higher seeds, so North Carolina and Kansas advance.
The second … (8 comments)

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Continues: Let's Start the Sweet Sixteen
We're back to the Men's NCAA action tonight, working towards the Elite 8. The games tonight should all be close and exciting to watch. The pairings are close and Butler is again the darling of the Mid Majors and trying to make another run at the Final 4 and the National Championship game, which they just barely lost last year.

Friday's games will also carry their share of thrill, with a few underdog teams trying to do a little damage. Marquette in the East still playing great will face Carolina, … (9 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 4 Last Games before The Sweet 16
There were some real challenging games in the Women's tournament yesterday with one upset, Gonzaga at #11 beating up resoundingly over #3 UCLA. Also, #1 Tennessee had to fight all the way through the game to beat #8 Marquette, and if not for Marquette's best re-bounder fouling out with 2 minutes to go it might have been different. Duke also had to battle it out against Marist, and only at the end did they take the lead and win.
Today's games can bring more of the same as the … (5 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 3 Working to Get to The Sweet 16
Today begins the quest to reach the round of 16, or Sweet 16. As expected there were no real surprises with low seeds being upset by higher seeds, and a 9 beating an 8 is not a big upset.
My women's brackets are all intact, but that could change now. The remaining 32 teams are the better teams in women's basketball. This is where we can expect an upset, because of the 'On any given Day Principle'.

The Tennessee/Marquette match-up could prove to be interesting and close, … (4 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 2 May Not Show Any Surprises
The first day of the Women's Championships did not have too many surprises, as the only games where there were upsets were in the mid numbered brackets and for the most part all the higher seeds won. Today's games should not be very different.

Our 2 entries from Connecticut, UConn at #1 and Hartford play today. The problem for Hartford is that it's game is against UConn, so it will be a short tournament for them.
The games will set up for Monday and Tuesday, to set the … (3 comments)

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Is In Full Action: Half of the Sweet Sixteen are Ready
There were some great games to watch on Saturday, leading to a few upsets and setting up half of the teams for the Sweet Sixteen.
One Number one seed is gone, Pitt losing to Butler, although it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise because Butler played in the National Title game last year, losing to Duke.
My sheets are shot. My southeast region has taken a big hit, but I still have Wisconsin and Forida standing. The remaining #1 seeds all play … (7 comments)

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Is In Full Action: Down to the Field of 32
Two days of action gets us to the next round, The round of 32. The next two days will lead to the Sewwt Sixteen, no candles on the cakes yet.

There were a couple of upsets with the 16 games played on Friday. Georgetown went done to VCU, Florida State took out Texas A & M, Marquette defeated Xavier. For close calls, Arizona went down to the wire to beat Memphis.

Today will be an interesting day with just 8 games to play, … (4 comments)

Big East Basketball Has it's Home In Storrs Connecticut
The UConn women did it last weekend, they won the Big East Women's Tournament title after winning the regular conference title. Nothing new there they've done it 17 times.
Last night in New York City, at The garden, the most famous area in the world, the Connecticut Men's Basketball team set multiple records in winning the Big East Men's Tournament title.
Record setting because they did the never before done feat of winning 5 games in five nights. Not even the millionaires called the NBA play 5 games in 5 nights, … (7 comments)

The UConn Women's Basketball Team are the Center of the College Basketball Universe
Last night in Hartford, the most revered record in College Basketball was shattered by the UConn Women's Basketball Team. The UCLA record of 88 consecutive victories set by their men's team in the early 70's with John Wooden as coach was surpassed by the 2010 Geno Auriemma coached women's Team.
The team faced a ranked Florida State team at the Hartford XL center, and within 5 minutes the tone was set. At the end of the game, UConn 93, Florida State 62, and the crowd stood as … (5 comments)

The men's consecutive game streak is 88 games set by UCLA in the John Wooden era. The women's record sits currently at 83 games and is still going.
At the World Vision Challenge in Storrs CT the UConn women got 2 steps closer last night and tonight by winning back to back games against Howard University 86-25, and tonight the took on the Lehigh women and came away with an 81-38 win.
They play again Sunday against the women's team from LSU in what can become their 84 consecutive win.
