I'm looking forward to the 2012 Salt Lake Housing Forecast Breakfast on Wednesday, January 18th. Eric Belsky, Director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University will present on the key factors crucial to supporting a housing and economic recovery in Utah and the nation. James Wood, Director of the University of Utah's Bureau of Economic and Business Research will also be presenting the 2012 Salt Lake housing forecast. In addition to being informative, these forecast meetings are really fun to go to. Given that the presentation is given to 500 Realtors, you know the "spin" on the data (0 comments)

A recent ABC4 news report points out some reasons why Utah is weathering the economic storm better than other states. Diversification seemed to be the main theme. All of Utah's eggs aren't in one basket. Here are 5 of the examples given: International Exports Tourism Alternative Energy Research & Development Technology Research & Development Population Influx - People AND Businesses are relocating to Utah While Utah isn't an economic Utopia, the diverse interests of it's residents and it's industrial pursuits certainly make it a great place to live. Good news for those hoping to buy (or sell?) homes under $300,000 in Salt Lake County: The Salt Lake Board of Realtors said this week that 71 percent of home sales in Salt Lake County in July were for properties priced less than $300,000. The most active price range was from $200,000 to $250,000, the board said.(Salt Lake Tribune) A majority of my clients thus far in 2008 have purchased homes between $250,000 and $500,000. Salt Lake's Tribune released an article titled "Utah home sales plunge" on February 14th, 2008. It starts out by saying that Salt Lake is now caught "in the middle" of the national downturn. Is this true, or just an attention grabbing headline? If you read the entire article and not just the headline, you will find the truth buried in there somewhere. Let's analyze the statistics from the article itself: The report compared the home sales volume nationwide in the last quarter of 2007 with the same period in 2006.
