Treehugger.com had some really great tips that would benefit everyone. Here is what they had to say: Ten Tips to Go Green 1) Turn down the thermostat. Lowering it by just one degree can reduce heating energy costs by about four percent. 2) Use ceiling fans in the summer AND winter. By reversing the direction of the blades, warm air is pushed down, helping to keep rooms warm in winter. 3) Conserve energy by purchasing major appliances with an Energy Star rating. Here's some interesting news available through the Canada Green Building Council CaGBC news: 1. LEED certified buildings meet the highest environmental performance standards in Canada 2. The point based system covers several areas: site development, water and energy efficiency, material selection, indoor air quality and innovation of design. 3. The first LEED Canada for Homes 2009 project achieving LEED-Platinum certification was the "Discovery 3 House" in Red Deer, AB, certified in May 2009. 4. Calgary and Edmonton have both committed to LEED-silver for municipal buildings.
