grand rapids: Without Further Ado... - 11/13/08 02:28 PM
Today I attended my first local WCR luncheon here in Grand Rapids at the Watermark Country Club. I met and talked to several members of the Women's Council and really had an enjoyable time (the food was fabulous). My main reason for attending was that they were featuring a wonderful speaker whom I greatly admire and who can captivate audiences and really get their minds racing. Without further ado.....I give you Lola Audu.....(that's actually a line I picked up from her)... As always, she had a lot of interesting things to say and even though I work with her, I

grand rapids: 2 Closings in One Day! - 06/04/08 11:59 AM
Okay, so some of you seasoned pros out there have probably done this quite often, and quite a few times, but as a newer agent this is my first. The Grand Rapids, MI real estate market is really picking up! My first client, Faye, and I have been working together for a long time. We'd finally found a few houses she liked, but every time we put an offer in - it was sold. There were several competing offers, in fact. I felt bad for Faye not getting these homes, but it felt good knowing the market is moving and homes

grand rapids: Negotiation Skills 101 - This Is Why I Do What I Do and LOVE IT! - 01/22/08 09:16 AM
This post was inspired by the contest that Melissa Grant is running that wants our defining "Aha" moment when we knew, as Realtors, that this was meant to be. I had to write this post today since this date marks my official one year anniversary in Active Rain. I can't say that I've had several blasts from the past in my career as I've only been in RE just under 2 years, they're more like recent transactions. I can say this much - of all the hats you wear as an agent (business associate, friend, confidante, counselor to name a few)

grand rapids: What Does Grand Rapids Have to Offer - 12/03/07 09:19 AM
We have a great downtown, recently revitalized and still growing - with convention centers, museums (including the Gerald Ford and the new, green Art Museum). Fine Hotels and Restaurants, not just in downtown but throughout the city. Brand new hospitals. Golf, golf, golf in the spring, summer and fall and an outdoor ice rink and several indoor for the winter activities. Not to mention the sports teams affiliated with Grand Rapids (Griffins hockey for one). Education with several highly accredited high schools and colleges/universities. But mostly, we have nice, affordable housing. Here for example is a 10 year new

grand rapids: Now It's Actively Raining in Grand Rapids, MI! - 11/13/07 08:42 AM
Last week I had the honor of being in attendance at the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors (R) building and helping out (somewhat) with a Blogging and Technology Seminar (or Web 2.0 vs. 1.0) that our own Lola Audu was the main speaker. This is her 2nd in as many weeks and her third this year that she has been so willing to share about the future and now of blogging with anyone in the Real Estate profession or any other related industry. Renee Rothenthaler (who did a stellar job with the set up and delicious treats), Therese VanderMeer and I

grand rapids: Summer's Still Here in Sunny Michigan - 09/21/07 07:17 AM
I was inspired to write this post as I was driving around recently with my car windows wide open and enjoying our Indian Summer here in Michigan. I personally have not thought the regular summer was over yet, besides the kids being back to school. We've had a week or two of cold spells (and even a frost advisory) but other than that the weather has been gorgeous. Michigan tourism has benefited greatly from this outstanding summer. I recently visited Grandville's Millennium Park, (owned by the people, operated by Kent County) with some friends for a birthday celebration and a fun, relaxing

grand rapids: The Open House Hijacking - 08/30/07 12:18 PM
I was reading Lola Audu's post today on a simple, nice closing we had yesterday, when midway through the post she mentioned a Mortgage Lender who had come to an Open House I had at this home (Grand Rapids, MI) and "scared off" my one and only potential Buyer for that day. He arrived outside, child in tow, and intercepted the lady in the driveway, handed her a flyer that he had printed up with my info/picture and his, too, talked to her for quite awhile (I thought he was a RE Agent and this was his client, so I gave

Hello AR!! I'd love for you to extend a warm and wet welcome to Robert L. Brown. grand rapids: Cancer, Cupcakes, Cards & Calls - 02/22/07 10:41 AM
My husband, Ben, was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer this past November. I know I should've been more scared when we found out, but his calm and knowing his family history (his brother had it as well as other members of the family - even though we didn't find all this out until later) seemed to make this all part of the grand scheme of things. I've been the one most nervous about the surgery but tried not to let him know or let it show. He had his surgery last week Thursday. The prostatectomy was performed by Dr. Jeffery Casamento and
